Not sure about others but lowbie doms are GREAT! I basically just save my domination for full endurance bar for more killing = less down time.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just to play devil's advocate; do we all believe the changes were intended to make domination primarily and endurance management power?

Looking at domination's effects being +mag/+duration on outgoing mez, +mez protection, and endurance refill I can't help but think that endurance refill is intended to be the tertiary effect in terms of purpose and usefulness. Basically, just to ensure that you have ample endurance to take advantage of the main purpose of domination - being more powerful.

From what I've read and experienced now, the end bar refill is the MAIN purpose of domination now. I'd honestly be surprised if it is he intended design for such a dynamic and powerful inherent to be nothing more than a supped up version of vigilance.

Don't get me wrong +mag and mez protection are still awesome, but I find myself primarily using domination as an endurance tool. I would imagine it was originally designed (and still carries this intention) that it is supposed to be a "power up" for tougher encounters, when you need more kapow!

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, during lowbie levels, we don't face that many bosses and even the lowbie bosses aren't that tough. I still use domination all the time because of the nonstop action, which means I am still getting the mez protection and better controls.

I am one of those that uses Domination as soon as it's up unless I am like right before the main boss fight and I may save it for one minute longer.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

No but we do face grossly underslotted control durations and a lack of damage to dispatch foes before controls imminently fail.

I would think that in low levels the extra duration that domination offers is practically vital. My old domes always used it for +dam and +duration (+mag is nice, but like you said, fewer bosses early on). My doms now seem compelled to use it for recovery.

That said, you - like I - are just one tiny data point. I wonder how most doms are using it now

I appreciate your candor, but at the same time, I'm not being a time thief as I'm done work... are you? j/k, but seriously.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I woke at 3am or so and was unable to go back to sleep -- a formula I was working on yesterday had "issues" and I figured out why and could not go back to sleep until I fixed it. So, I came in *REALLY* early. Now, I'm just killing time waiting for traffic to die down so I can go home and pass out.

Not all community types are "mouthpieces" -- and fortunately, we here at Paragon don't really have any like that. But, as I've said, I've worked with them before and it isn't pleasant.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've subscribed to games that had people set up as these "mouthpieces" and it usually was a disaster for the fans. The mouthpieces were just as capable as putting their foot in their mouth just as much as a developer could, only it would generally cause even more problems for the company.

Star Wars Galaxies and EverQuest both had notably horrible community relations at various points. If the developers had come in and said, "Look, this is the way it is. Sorry," then there still probably would have been SOME negativity (it is, after all, a MMO), but it would have been better than being spoonfed the lies and halftruths followed by the backpedaling and contempt.

Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!

Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

FWIW, I took courses in business communication and PR while in college. I *could* filter everything I say with marketing doublespeak and spin. I choose not to. Sometimes, that causes me a lot of grief from the fans, other times, I get called to the carpet by my boss. I can live with that, though, since I believe that what I am doing is overall beneficial to everyone concerned.

It wouldn't really matter if you did. To eliminate the pain, you'd have to be able to consistently do three things I don't think were on the curriculum:

1. Know what everyone else is saying about that particular topic and make sure you explicitly deny you're saying any of those things (unless you are).

2. Know all of the computational and informational errors that your audience is prone to, extrapolate what conclusions those errors would draw, and then deny those, also explicitly.

3. Know all of the presumed intentional assumptions likely to be drawn, and negate all of the false ones, also explicitly.

I'm not making this up: when I wrote the I7 critter accuracy change guide, I directly addressed all three. Unless you're an expert on the player-side chatter of the topic *and* the game mechanics the topic addresses on the design side *and* think the Rosetta Stone is just a heavier form of Sudoku, anything you're likely to say is going to be turned into tapioca pretty quickly. The only advantage I have is that my opinions don't rest in the head of the chief powers designer for the game, so I'm "plausibly deniable" on both sides.

Throwing a PR person into the mix would be like having a bedouin try to mediate a debate between an eskimo and a penguin over the best texture for shaved ice.

Let's see:
99% of game changes involve nothing higher than elementary school math ---- check
Communicated to a group that ilicits predictable, consistent, and rudimentary social trends ---- check.

Yep way beyond what a competent PR person could handle.

Or, more like what one could handle while simultaneously typing up a public address for something that actually matters while talking to their wife on the bluetooth during their morning commute to the office.

You can't be seriously thinking this game is somehow overly complex or that the group of users are somehow incredibly unique. But maybe you do, CoX forums are srs bsns.

Please tell me your last post was actually an attempt at humor. If so kudos, it is funny, but you needed a smiley or smirk to make sure we know it is intended as humor.

Just wanted to be sure. I'm not going to try and change who you are, people have to want to change.

Regardless of your years of experience I'm willing to bet thousands of years of experience trumps it.

Interesting stuff, I like learning more about the regulars in this game.

Then again, I've made it clear that dev's shouldn't be posting, they should have community reps that specialize in doing that. There is a reason our CFO doesn't address the public. Speaking to the public is as much a skill as programming code or ensuring the financial viability of a company.

[/ QUOTE ]

Noted. As much as I can see where you are coming from, I've worked at companies where the only customer interaction is through mouthpieces and, frankly, the experience is painful and frustrating both from the consumer side and from the developer side. I vastly prefer having the freedom to address folks as myself (keeping in mind that I am a representative of the company and that certain things must, perforce, not be commented upon or certain activities undertaken.) Yes, that leads to headaches sometimes, but it also leads to our fans being able to "see behind the curtain" a lot more than other games allow -- with all that that entails, good and bad.

Well, seeing as you're going back to the "people have to want to change" well, I don't mind asking how many times did I have to explain to you that the Elusivity implementation differed from my openly published original suggestion? By my count it was three. It has nothing but the math I would expect a junior high school student to be able to do in two minutes as a homework assignment. So I think you are not a good judge of what is easy or hard.

And when you find the person with thousands of years of experience explaining things to the City of Heroes playerbase on these forums, tell him happy birthday for me and I'll be more than happy to defer to his collected wisdom. Until then mine still trumps yours, takes the trick, makes the contract, and completes the grand slam.

nah I was just PO'd about how crappy the pvp changes turned out and was lashing out at a visible person responsible for some of them. I understood your elusivity proposal as soon s it was posted. I've said much worse about Castle than you. I was also watching my engagement fall apart around me and was definitely bringing baggage into the forums.

It was a situation where I felt you knew nothing about pvp, but decided you knew more than everyone else and were listened to. I still think you know nothing about actual pvp and I still don't think elusivity as you proposed it would have worked in pvp even if they hadn't introduced DR on top of it.

I was also sort of holding your responsible for DR, it just seemed like something you'd come up with.

I look forward to the next "amateur hour" design session for the game and hope it is as successful.

meh, water under the bridge. If you want to talk about failure to understand things I recall a thread where you had no idea how to create a good short arc and figured you could just do w/e you did in a long arc. The number of plays you had at the time and your avg rating (no idea what it is now, don't care. this was months ago just like what you are bringing up) said otherwise. But you sunk your teeth in, I'll give you that.

They said the oldest profession is prostitution. It isn't, it is PR. You want to meet the thousand year old person? it is called society, stick your head in the sand all you like. Your experience is laughable, a mere speck of dust, but your ego seems to span the ages.

Suffice it to say if the changes make more happy then the changes accomplished their goal. After all? If you don't know what you missed out on then it really doesnt't matter. Does it?

It's still [u]vitriol[u] not vitrol, and [u]adolescent[u] not adolecent.

If you mods are gonna do your job then do it the right with without favoratism.

No post deleted today was abusive or untoward. No post deleted to day violated the EULA. All posts deleted today were from Old Dominator players expressing their experiences with the changes. Politely, consicely.... not in an arguementative fashion. But we get "POOF!!! Your opinion and playing experience is invalid because WE decided it to be so." Ya know?I thought people were exaggerrating with the number of threads and posts deleted with the lvl pact DEVELOPER [censored] UP. I am now inclined to believe those people. No wonder mosrt canceled accounts even after being emailed a letter of apology and receiving 30 days gratis playtime.

I wouldn't worry about Arcana, she's like the old dog that occasionally bites out of senility, but you still love it enough to never correct it. You kind of grimace when it comes around because it is rarely pleasant, but you remember the good times and try to look past what it has become.

Well having many, many years experience as a forum moderator (I used to make my living at it..) there may be more going on than "censorship" per se'.

It could be anything from a software glitch (reply posts that are married to the original get deleted when it does). Or a new staff member who is a bit too "gung-ho". I do miss Lighthouse. I really liked how he often commented on and "quelled" bad situations before they got out of hand.

Thanks for the insight, River. I'm not going to blow my stack yet, but I am concerned. The missing threads were certainly spirited, but no one went over the top that I read. I just want to know what's happening. Rules violations? Which ones? Why no warning or message? If the thread was so hot, why not just lock it? Or if someone was being so offensive, why not just sanction that person?

Speaking as someone who has been moderated a lot over three years, lemme tell you that Lighthouse was no better about telling you what you did wrong, unless you were exactly the first cause.

Mod 08's pretty good about it, but don't hold your breath. Or do, and then whine about 'censorship' more.
