My First Thoughts on Reichsman Strikeforce
When i went into the sf i expected a tough fight and maybe being unable to kill reichsman at the end...
what i didn't expect was to fight the entire 5th column before our team could get down to smacking reichsman around
after a half hour of near solid waves of 5th and no sign of stopping we gave up...
While i admit lacking the ambushes we probably could of beaten reichsman fairly easily (except for the 30min+ of wearing him down)
could someone hit the devs with a clue bat lots of hp != more difficult

Now that Im more relaxed, cuz I was mad as a hornet last night.
Still borked, period. Hour & Half fight to never see him drop below half & watching him phase & go to full again. This fun how?
Why does redside become forced to have very specialized teams, while blueside can bring whatever, have a costume contest in middle of the fight, while half team is dancing, still win this? Makes no sense(yes bit over top, but folks are calling this the new Katie, gotta be a reason for it)
If this all broken, why was it even released? If folks pointed this out to Devs, bemoaned about it in the Beta, still pile of poo, then why was it released again?
Fact there is a requirement to have specific A.T.'s to make this work, again screws people over, imagine if your on a lower pop server for some reason you can't find a Stalker or a Mastermind or whatever, then how can they have fun doing this?
Why are we forced to have Shivans, Vanguard Robots, "insert random temp power here", to even do this Strikeforce, when said powers are suppose to be optional in this game, then all sudden becomes mandatory? (Sounds like LRSF doesnt it?, which is whole another angry)
At what point does this become a Fun SF? As I stated I enjoyed the first 2-3 mishes(when he woke up, kicked our but in the cut scene) I thought ok that was neat, then it went downhill from there.
All these are valid questions.

You don't need Shivans or any special temps to complete the LRSF. Just wanted to point that out.

I think there are some valid things to address, and some of them have already been touched on, such as the fact that most new SF/TF's go live with bugs.
But, I can imagine as disappointed as we were to see the Black Scropion temp power not working correctly, I imagine Castle is 10 times moreso. That power has worked, was broken, his Unbreakable state was messed with, a lot of work went into that specifc power. After all of that to find that the fixes that have been made didn't make it into the patch that went live probably wasn't the highlight of his day.
Also, I agree, required AT's is not a good thing. I'm solidly behind the idea that Human_Being brought up in Beta, to have a pop-up menu when entering the machine where players would pick their Temps. There are lots of cool ways that could be used, unique tactics devised and the ability to adjust to any team make-up on the fly. So, I'm all with you there, especially after the shiny wears off, I imagine this could become even more of a problem on smaller servers.
That said, it isn't entirely AT specifc. Besides the brute-force method of throwing down well-timed nukes, shivans and what have you, I can imagine (with working versions of the Temps) that many different types of teams will be able to complete this, even without having one of the AT-specifc Temps.
For example, 3 doms and 3 corrs working together would be at least as effective as a Stalker in keeping the 5th in line, or might just be a fun way to run the SF period. I'm not saying you still wouldn't need an MM to shutdown his Unbreakable, but that it isn't a case where you absolutely must have 1 Stalker, 2 doms, 3 corrs, 1 MM and a Brute to have a chance at using the "gadgets" well to win the fight.
To me, this isn't intended to be anything like the more recent SF's that were fairly forgiving and didn't require practice, so much as knowing just 1 or 2 tricks. PuG's without a strong leader will have a tough time. If someone hasn't read the forums and doesn't even know where to get the Temp powers from, even with the animation and the text in the story, you might miss it.
To me that is the strength of this encounter, that it has replay value, that it is open to varying strategies (once the temps are working), and that there is a true learning curve and not just waiting for someone to post a guide on how to finish it in 45 minutes.
This defintely isn't for everyone, but I think the variety is good, for me it is fun, but it is a lot more fun in its working state, that is for sure. I'm guessing it won't take too long to see the broken Temps fixed, and then the real fun can begin.

They wanted to make the AV fight more interesting, a "gadget fight". They also wanted to make the villain version different than the hero version. I believe Castle and Posi think that the villain version is actually better and more interesting than the hero version. I wish it had been polished more too. There were tons of suggestions in the forums for how to deal with troublesome and confusing story elements, some of which would've been pretty easy to implement. We just don't know what other competing priorities they have to deal with. They're never just working on one release and many of them have to split their time between multiple releases that are at different stages of the pipeline. Heck, they could have improvements on the way, but their build and release process (except for dire emergencies) can be pretty lengthy--it's commonplace for Castle to say "a fix is on the way" and have it show up several days to weeks later. We know that the MM power was working at one point, so there should be a patch pretty soon that at least fixes that.
But again, please keep things in perspective. Your team was unable to complete the SF, but lots of other teams were. So it's not unbeatable, even in its current form. People will get a feel for what's needed to make it easier. Remember when the LRSF and STF were first released? Heck, I remember running early ITFs and they were very very different from what is commonly done today--very common to have 2 hour runs at first.

Although there may be some merit behind the complaining, I can't help but think that people usually complain that AV's are nothing more then "whack 'em down". However once they encounter an AV where that doesn't work and you might have to use some kind of stratergy, they chalk it up to a stupid and broken encounter because they can't auto win. Amazing. ;-)

Hero side task force: 2 hours 13 minutes
The fight against Reichsman took about forty-five minutes, but we defeated him. No one on the Task Force did it before. We wasted most of our temporary powers before realizing we were using them at the wrong time. We had no de-buffs beyond our /dark defender hitting Howling Twilight for the -regeneration, as well as Darkest Night... Which does nothing to help us hurt him any faster. I would have had fun, if it wasn't for the fact that we had one of the most useless, annoying, chatterbox blasters on planet earth. Love the guy, but he should never be introduced to an energy drink.
Villain side task force: 2 hours 45 minutes
The fight against Reichsman took about thirty-five minutes, be we defeated him. Only one person on the Task Force knew a little bit of what to do, but all of this information was based on what he read on the forums. None of us had temporary powers because, when we died, they disappeared and we didn't know how to respawn them. This was also on a team where there were no Brutes to help divert Reichsman's attention. Even better, we originally had seven people, but we lost one on the third mission, dropping it to six. He didn't quit, forcing us to fight through seven spawn enemies.
Relax. Both Task Forces are possible, even under annoying circumstances.

I don't know which Reichsman you got, but the one we got had 226k HP, 70% resists to the type of damage scrappers do (which gives him effectively 767k HP, and a version of unstoppable that cycles on and off when he's less than 10% and a Dull Pain power he uses somewhat randomly when below 60% (or so).
Anyway, he regens 113 HP/sec.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was wondering what the final numbers Castle went with were. That puts Reichman at 12% regen. So all it should take is ~150% worth of regen debuffs (before resistance) to floor his regen as a +3. That's trivial. That also means that the time between his regen ticks is 100s.
Thanks for the info, Kong.
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe that Reichsman is actually set to have 100% base regen with the exception that his base regen level is simply lower. You would still need 715% -regen in order to completely negate his regeneration (just like with any other lvl 50 AV), it's just that each percent of regeneration counts for less. Pretty much, he's got roughly ten times the hit points of a normal AV but only roughly one tenth of their base regeneration, making him regen just as much as a normal AV from an hp/sec perspective.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, well what do you know. I never realized that's how it worked under the hood. I thought the 12s base tick rate was static for every entity, not that it could be changed on a per case basis.
Heh, I both love and hate it when I learn something like this. Love it because, well, I find this stuff fascinating. Hate it because I can't help but think of all the calculations I've done in the past off faulty info. Gah!
I am, however, curious where you're getting 715% regen. That would match up with an AV resisting 86% of regen debuffs, but they still only resist 85% of the debuff at lvl50. I have a screenshot of regen numbers off my tests this morning from Marauder which are consistent with 85% at lvl50. That means it'd take 666.67% regen debuffs to floor a lvl50. If Reichman was lvl53, however, that'd bloat to 1098%. At lvl52, that'd be 892%. (Last two include the purple patch.)
[/ QUOTE ] So I'm assuming from yalls numbers and the other poster that it's not something that is really possible to do solo. Oh well, I'll find something else.

Done both: TF and SF.
TF - 36 minutes.
All friends, more than half of the team knew what to do.
3 Tanks
3 Controllers
1 Defender
1 ? (don't remeber)
SF - 2 hours 08 minutes
Mostly PuG. Only couple of players had some idea of what to do. After dealing with ambushes, it took 12 minutes to defeat Reichsman.
Whole SF will be done much faster as soon as people become familiar with routine.

These TF and SF do not require any specific AT on team, the same as rest of TFs/SFs in the game

Can someone connect the dots for me? I'm quite in the dark as to how some teams like the one above knock over Reichsman like he was made of Kleenex, and others pound on him and eventually give up in frustration. This team had a MM, but people are asserting the MM temp power is borked, so that shouldn't have made the diff. Did this team have a huge amount of debuffs? Did you simply have enough damage and -Res to pound Reichsman before he could phase or hit Unstoppable?

I agree with them, the Villain version is a lot more fun because of the whole "gadget fight" thing, it's actually interesting, as opposed ot standing around blasting him on occasion with the ray gun on hero side.
the hero fight is just tedious and boring, the villain fight actually has some interesting elements to it, and is over much faster than the hero fight in my experiences on test and live.

I'm going to go with experience being the key factor in teams like this. Really. A "perfect team makup" that's nothing but PL babies is going to die in hilarious ways, but a random mix and match of good, experienced players who know their ATs are going to wipe the floor with Reichsman every time.

I'm curious too, because the failures I have heard about have him go to 99% RES at 50% health and recast Dull pain every 360 seconds for 96000 HP on top of that, even with debuffers.
Hmm! I joined a random pickup group, and we obliterated the hero version of the Task Force almost effortlessly (though that may have something to do with having six controllers on the team). Is the villain version significantly harder?
My first thoughts
First thought: 45 or so minute long Reichsman fight. OK, this has gotten to be a pretty hilariously long slugfest (i even dropped an HVAC on him during the fight. Somebody else dropped a Rikti Drone, lol. Nobody else dropped a big and nasty pet on him...maybe 8 shivans would pummel him down quick, assuming they wouldn't spaz out on all the 5th). It's like I'm really playing EverQuest again! The TF timer clocked in at about 2 hours. Pretty sure it was an hour spent in that last map.
Second thought a): How did Statesman manage to beat this guy back in the 80s (or 90s? whenever it was Amerika Korp attacked Earth)? We should all be speaking German right now considering how vastly stronger he is compared to Statesman or his other evil twin, the Tyrant...
2nd though b): At least they didn't make him a Nictus.
Final thought: This was only worth 20 Merits? Oh well, there's always speed ITFs and LGTFs for merits, or ticket farming for random recipe rolls. Devs sure do like trolling redside.
[ QUOTE ]

Oh yeah, I got to hit the killswitch. It's kind of fun to turn all the nazis into puddles of goo. WHO GOT DA AOE DAMAGE NOW, SUCKAS!
We ran out of nazi reinforcement waves long before Reichs fell over. I guess maybe you'd constantly be getting harassed by them if not for having a Stalker to nuke 'em.
That mission where he uses Fist of Tyranny on you cutscene into a 5th Bunker jail was awesome.
[QR]
What is the heroside temp power supposed to do? When should it be used? What is the big difference between teams that walk through this TF in their sleep and teams that pound on Reichsmann for an hour straight in frustration? Watching my wife last night, every time someone fired off the temp power, at least one other person remembered that they had it and fired it off immediately as well There was no rhyme or reason, and from my vantage point as a spectator, there seemed to be no indicator from Big R that it was time to fire off the raygun. I assume this isn't the best way to go about this.
Let's maybe have a little less "l2p" and a little more sharing of information here. I guess the redside has a bug or something, I don't know, I haven't any villains over 40. That side sure sounds like they have a more interesting SF, bugs or no.
(QR)
The devs know the forumites too well.
You see, they did make something most of you would like. Because they know now, after five years, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you are not happy unless you have something to complain about. Vociferously. Repeatedly.
All the doom sayers, all the rage quitters, they know you all will eventually come back. They know your life isn't complete unless there's some detail out there to which you can target all your bile.
They've just given you all something new upon which to focus your ire. Hate you? Quite the contrary, the devs love you!!!
So, I didn't get to run the SF last night but I did run the TF heroside. My observations:
Nobody on the team had finished it before. One person had attempted it on Test without finishing. So pretty much we had no clues beforehand.
1 hour 20 minutes, 14 deaths, level 1.
We had 1 stone tank, 2 scrappers, a WS, and 4 fenders/trollers. I didn't pay attention to everyone's powers but I know we had good buffing/debuffing and good damage. We pretty much steamrolled as much as we could... the tank like to move from spawn to spawn as quickly as possible, and things died very fast.
I only died once, with the first AV... is it Schaudenfruede? And it was my fault, I didn't hit MoG quite fast enough. I'm a scrapper so I should be able to keep myself alive when there's a stone tanker right next to me. ^_^
Last mission: tanker says we should stealth to the end, and adds "because I only have 15 minutes." This about caused the rest of the team to self-destruct (figuratively), but in any case we did get all teleported to the final fight, and the tank did stay to the end. He rushed right in to Reichsman, which I was very worried about since someone had said that we'd want to pull his friends first. But they were no problem at all... as each one released, we smacked them down and then went back to pounding on the main guy with the million hit points.
I didn't even know about temporary powers, although others on the team were apparently using theirs. I guess it worked because Reichs never regen'd or phased. The whole final fight was not short, but no more than maybe 20 minutes I'd guess.
My impressions: I know the hero version is supposed to have major story problems/massive plot holes, but from the perspective of someone who rarely knows what the story of the TF is anyway, it was fun. New maps, some of them very cool, some fun EBs and a surprise AV halfway through, then a big fight at the end. Most missions were board train, so pretty easy from that angle. I enjoyed myself.
Will be interesting to see how different/more difficult the SF is.

Pretty good damage, isn't it?

What is the heroside temp power supposed to do? When should it be used?

Reichsman is supposed to have a phase power that makes him untouchable. The hero temp power is supposed to turn that off. The time I tried the TF on the test server, either his phase power was never being activated or the temp powers have a LONG duration. Several of us zapped him with the temp power when we first started battling him (very cool visuals!), but after a while we didn't bother. I regularly saw our damage drop to lots of "1s" in the combat f/x above his head, but that must've been him toggling on Unstoppable, because we should've seen "Unaffected" messages if his phase power was on.
Has anyone doing the Hero TF see him use his phase power?

I never saw it, but I will say that it seemed to me that using the temp powers (though it required multiple stacks) seemed to turn off the "unstoppable" (re: only taking 1 damage from an attack). I think the phase was replaced with crazy huge resists.
Me and my team just finished the Villainside TF, and while it was a lot of fun, the last mission left something to be desired.
We had to farm 5th Column for 30 minutes before it was safe to tank Reichsman, and even then it took a long time to bring him down. Much too long.
After we completed it, we recieved all of 20 merits.
Still a fun TF, but honestly.
fake edit: By the way, since Reichsman has been frozen since before the game actually began to take place, shouldn't he only be level 40? Or did he just have that much patrol experience that knocking us out gave him 10 full levels?
