I hear this is something being looked into for going rogue. i really hope its more than color change on your fire ball, maybe make 4/5 different selectable animations for the power that have a similar cast time and then changing the average damage so that DPA and damage per cast cycle stay the same or within a few decimals at 50.

if they could get that to work well i think its implementation would be the next thing to get rave reviews, and so soon after the MA system, that would really be the 1 2 punch on other MMOs out there.

well, i dont think it'd actually kill the WoW gorilla, but it'd still bring a lot of competition to the table.

I'm almost certain that it'll only be color customization, not a whole lot of new animations added to the game. They'll probably even call it something like "color customization," to emphasize that it's not full customization. I could certainly be wrong, but it's been hard enough for them to do the color customization alone; I'd be surprised if they went to the vastly greater trouble of re-imagining and creating hundreds of new animations.

i dont think it would be more than color either, but i sure do think it'd be cool.

i was thinking instead of making new animations, they would just rebalance the damage to suit 4-5 pre existing animations. that technology already exists in pvp, so i wouldnt imagine it being too too hard, it'd just take time, more time than i think squeezing it into 16 with color cust will allow for.

The marketing appeal of power customization is much stronger and true enough to justify the time, even if misleading (lol that is what marketing is all about).

I really don't see them giving multiple animations to each power, or even allowing animations to be switched. Take a serious look and you'll see there really aren't that many power animations that players even have.

I think this round it will be color customization, however with color customization down, that means they've figured out some of the hard parts about power customization (from what I remember about BAB's FAQ from a while back) and they should be able to put in the other stuff in there a lot more easily down the road.

Actually, I'm hoping they call it "color customization" so "power customization" is an option for the future.

I do wonder if the color will be universal across all powers, though. And whether pets/objects that DON'T have an aura will be effected.

thank you!! it was never a "hard" change, it was a time consuming tedious change, once they quadrupled the dev staff it would almost be expected to do this as quick as possible. not that the change isn't welcomed, i'm all excited and geeked out right now, but it still is the most logical major change done to the game once the dev staff was increased.

now to make it more complicated, we can wait and see if they added and level of animation customization, even a short list of animations with the same cast time for each power. that would be a "difficult" task.


Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

Well in theory, if they're going through the trouble to recreate how powers work so the colors aren't baked in, it would just be a few extra steps to make it so the animation isn't baked in a well. And a couple more to add the ui and compile a list if animations to include for each power.

Though this is only a theory of how it's being done, and the standard code rant applies. Depending in how they went about discovering how to do it, it could be just as easy and tedious as changing the color, or something much more complicated.


Edit: though I hope they create a way to make defensive toggles transparent, that would make my day and just might get me to play an invulnerable tank...

I'd like to see some ability to edit the effects of the powers, like alter particle effects and stuff, but I highly doubt that you'll be able to change the animation your character does, considering how complicated animation time, rooting time, activation time and various other thing are.

Also, Posi's statement does not rule out the distinct possibility that Going Rogue will act like i6 and CoV and be released at the same time as i16... That way, GR is it's own expansion (but not i16) and i16 happens at the same time.

Yeah, that's my thought, although I don't think GR will be I16. More like I17 or I18.

The only way GR would not be an issue, though, was if the changes were completely independent of the non-GR portions of the game. And if you had to buy GR to access those features. We don't really know that yet. (Plus, it's pretty likely GR will bring with it changes that apply to everyone, even if certain features are limited to the new expansion)

That, or he's only NOW starting to work on Power Customization, and what Posi posted was done using Photoshop. I'd imagine that most of the devs here post the most when they're actually doing "work"
