Need to low prices on purple sets
[ QUOTE ]
So, you're saying i'm illogical because i'd rather be able to get drops than to buy them in WW?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, yeah. You have essentially built a financial plan contingent on winning the lottery, except that Posi gives better odds.
If your goal truly is to just log in and kill stuff, you should be using generic IOs, and you should have had them back at level 32 for the most part. Regular posters here know the Goat has advocated getting your cheap bids up for these things and walking away. Within a few logins you'll have what you need (I tend to just place cheap bids on the recipes and salvage, but it's the same principle; and especially villainside I'll lay in a pittance on a generic I'll need soon--I have yet to be disappointed).
You boasted a little while ago that you do okay in both PvE and PvP, so why the purples? It's your $15, you can continue to attempt to win the lottery, but after 2 years (IOs and the market have only been around 2 years and change) I'd think you'd have looked at your personal data and realized it's not going to happen.
Now if you're the type of person that thinks after 2 years of failure, you're "due," for goodness' sake stay away from slot machines. That's what got eryq1.

you can't come to the market forums and say "cheaper". too many greedy people here for that and you'll just get flamed. trust me. (i agree wityh you though) everything is too high. i'll never spend those prices.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is you complaining about greedy people, and insinuating the prices were their fault. (Since you're saying 'here' I kinda assume it's the marketeers you're referring to.)
Now you claim you were blaming drop rates, when in fact you were insulting people. (And you worry about people flaming you?)
*shrugs*

Just remimber if they Cap prices like a white salvage at 250, I will Vender it over losing the 10% in WW fees. People will stop posting items and making side markets a place to make X times more money as ppl look for a way toget it.
as soon as you pay the buy it noa price, your setting that up for someone else.

If they cap prices real black markets will spring up not using the consignment house/black market.

Plus, I don't know how many of you lock up or even disconnect when you interact with the market interface but moving off it would help there too.

There are plenty of players who mostly ignore the market and just use SOs or generic IOs. I was just chatting with a friend of mine last night. He was playing on Freedom, not his normal home server. So I asked him if he wanted some Inf, and he replied "nah, I'm doing great--I've got over a million inf." He pretty much only buys SOs until he hits 32, then puts in low bids for generic recipes. After he gets his level 35 generic IOs he never swaps them out, unless he gets a lucky drop. That's not my cup of tea but he loves playing and couldn't care less about set bonuses. It works for him and he's happy.
You, on the other hand, seem determined to outfit your character with sets. You mentioned just this week alone you've spent over 30 hours farming. Presumably you're not doing that for generic IOs.
Let me suggest an alternative that involves the bare minimum of using the market: assuming you have at least one high level character, do one ITF run a day. The ITF is a fun task force that takes an average team 60-90 minutes (yes, I know about 30 minute speed runs). At the end of that time, you'll have several million inf just from kills, at least a chance of getting some purples, salvage that will be worth a few mil more, and most importantly enough merits to go for a rare drop (suggestion: go for a lvl 30-34 recipe). Yes, you'll have to use the market to list your items, but you can just list them low and cash out immediately. That's painless even for someone who doesn't care for the market.
After 2-4 weeks of this you're going to be sitting on an embarrassingly large pile of inf. So then you hold your nose to cope with the distaste of using the market, pick one of the rare/pricey recipes you really want and buy it.

Merits and tickets are definitely the developers way of responding to the people that don't like using the market.

[ QUOTE ]
I have always said the drop rate is too low. The devs rates suck, imo. But it dont help that there ARE people out there that hurt the market prices by taking advantage of it. It wouldn't be so bad if people bought the stuff to use. Buying to jack the price up is stupid. It's hurting the people that actually want the stuffs game because some people, myself included, don't want to "play the market" game to build inf. Don't pity the poor people, but realize not everyone wants to be a marketeer. I'd rather farm so i can at least play my toon and not look for "niches". Flame on...
[/ QUOTE ]
No it is not hurting those people. That's why people flame you. People flame you because you are ignorant. People flame you because you say things that are blatantly false.
Think of prices like goldilocks and the three bears...
Some prices are too low. When prices are too low a "shortage" exists. In a shortage some people are willing to pay the price but unable to obtain the item. Some items in CoH have been and are in a shortage. The most famous example is low level Luck of the Gamblers from long ago. The last 5 for all of these used to say 10 to 20 million. None were ever for sale on the market but fairly often they would appear and be sold instantly. This situation is a shortage. People were willing and able to pay 10 to 20 million. Lots and lots of people in fact. However, none could buy it. Eventually, prices rose. Prices rose because they were too low. Players suffered because they were willing and able to pay the last 5 prices but could not do so.
Some prices are too high. When prices are too high there is a surplus. In a surplus players are willing and able to sell their item at the current price but unable to do so. When you see an item with lots and lots for sale, zero bidders, and a 6 or 7 digit last 5 price you see an item in a surplus. Eventually, prices lower on these items because sellers come along who post their items for less and buyers come along who pay less. Sellers that do not list for less do not sell their item and thus get no money.
Some prices are just right. At these prices there are an equal number of people who are willing to buy as willing and able to sell. These prices are just right.
Marketeers can only survive and profit on items with high volatility where the price fluctuates between too high and too low. These marketeers ride the waves of player impatience. They buy at the low and sell at the high. Other marketeers profit on identifying shortages. These marketeers buy lots and lots of an item that is priced "too low." Then they list them higher and profit. Another type of marketeer creates misleading information on the market and attempts to profit. These marketeers may make temporary profits by buying lots of an item then trying to make the last 5 look bigger or buy buying all of one item then trying to sell a few at huge prices. However, this strategy is unsustainable. The marketeer MUST exit or lose profits because at those high prices there are more sellers than buyers. Eventually, other sellers will appear and the plan will collapse.
Anyway you slice it, marketeers cannot force players to pay higher prices. Every transaction has a willing and able buyer. Yet, you complain regardless. That is why you are ignorant and why you are flamed. You ignore facts, reason, logic, intelligence, mathematics and economics and blame the wrong people. Stop blaming marketeers for high prices and either blame the people who pay them willingly or the developers who don't create a drop rate to your satisfaction.

Then again, from who you responded to, I guess it's in fashion to blame this portion or that portion of the player base for one's individual laziness or ignorance.

And yet the extreme fools like a certain someone in this thread still complain.
Lack of Logic must be the new drug of choice.
The devs do EXACTLY what they want by creating a TWO DIFFERENT types of stores for IOs and they still complain.
And once again: the devs WANT purples to be ultra low. If folks can't deal with that, tough [censored].

My friend Bob helps me search the cow fields sometimes. He once bought two cows and sold them. With the money he made he bought a horse.

Thank you, Squez for summing it up so succinctly. And to Eryq2, I will also add that you don't *have* to do anything with the market in order to use tickets and merits. And, what do you know, you get them just by doing exactly what you purport you want to do, "Play CoH and get drops." Tickets are more than easily gained and you can roll bronzes all day and get some decent stuff. It'll require a little more effort, but you play the TFs and Trials for merits and get better stuff. What more do you want?
If you don't want to be bothered with going to WW to check whether something is for sale or to sell your own drops then I still fail to see the logic in your complaint about high prices since they are irrelevant to somebody who doesn't want to use the market.

the problem is the devs are doing exactily what they intend to do. And if this game was like any other mmo out there, it would be perfect. However, when we have more character variations in just one Arc type, then other mmo's have period, there is my beef, We have more variation of characters to play in just this one mmo then almost all the other mmo's combined. I just wish the drop rates and availability fit the sheer number of toons available to play

*yawn* haven't I heard this complaint before?
Yes, play fewer toons so you can get burned out on the game. That would kill the game faster than the anti-farmer threads. imo.
So, you're saying i'm illogical because i'd rather be able to get drops than to buy them in WW? To me, that sounds illogical. I don't play the game to travel to WW and see what other people have for sale. I'd rather play CoH, kill mobs get drops, etc. WW is too much of a hassle for me. I think it's stupid how people say "do the work" and refer to playing the market to get stuff. I have blamed players for taking advantage of the system, BUT i also have said it was the DEVS fault due to the low drop rates. Not just purples, even orange recipes for me seem to drop for others rather than my account. lol. Maybe its a nemesis plot.
Then again, the game hates me i guess because i don't get the "shinies" while farming and i refuse to flip crap in WW. So, call me illogical, ignorant or whatever because i find it stupid to HAVE to use WW to get my toons stuff rather than play the game i purchased and pay for each month. Peace out.
