Well, TBH, I dislike *** **** **** ***. And I wish when everyone is thinking on ways to improve this game, they look at other ****** titles that are either coming out or already out. I, personally, **** ********** that is in **. There is ******* from that game that I would want in this game. Absolutely *******.
I get that alot of people want to *** what that game has to offer... but, well... * **** **** **** **** that game in this one.
I dislike their ****** system. I dislike their *****. I dislike just about **********.

I wish this game would grab APBs costume creation and just smash it into this game. I wish we could have the wings and dragons and stuff from Aion... I wish we could have those green hammers from DCUO... but I don't want **** from **.

I look at it this way - it's not about which game does what how well. It's about what works, what doesn't and what's good for THIS game. If that means copying other games, I'm fine with that. If that means re-inventing the wheel, then whatever it takes. For what it's worth, I think what we're getting will be uniquely our own if for no reason other than because it has to work with our wonky engine

Just a little thought I have...

CoH's system is licensed from Cryptic. Yes: licensed from the direct competition which has been belittling them publicly.

Of course, no way Paragon Studios could admit to it, but I would not be surprised if they were working on an all-new modern game engine, just to stave of the possiblity of Cryptic yanking the one they have.

...nothing to see here. Move along...

Nicely put. This post is the gist of a lot of the things I've been saying even in relation to new COX content. Fluff is still fluff. If you want to impress me long-term...make the core game more compelling. Expand gameplay options...not just costume options. No matter how pretty they may be.

About CO, I'm hearing things like more environmental interactivity, using your sideskills to build things to help you in missions and trying to better immerse the player in the gameworld...whatever other faults it may have(and they may well be many), you don't NOT do that sort of thing just to spitefully claim you're different from the competition.

I don't want COX to copy COs combat system...but if the developers finally decide to improve/upgrade the engine to allow for a wider scope of mission types, better environments and the addition of elements to help make playing the core game more compelling, then I don't really give a flying freem if those are things that CO is doing.

There are people who are happy with COX in its current state and just want more content, costume parts and missions. There are also people who think that the game could use new elements(myself among them) to make it more compelling to play. That the former will get what they want is a given...you've been getting that for the past five years. I'd just like a little more attention paid to the latter.

Anyone with a background in the pen and paper RPG could have told you that before they even launched.

The 'official' universe is a lukewarm Marvel rip-off and most of the 'canon' characters are tremendously boring, both visually and story-wise.

Champs was a great set of rules attached to a mediocre 'universe'. I had a ton of fun playing it over the years, but we used our own settings.

I'm not fanatical about the CoH setting, but Lord Recluse > Dr. Destroyer, Arachnos > Viper, Positron > Defender, etc etc.

The Champs universe was just very derivative and stale.

This pretty much sums up my experience with Champs as well.

I loved the HERO game system and used it to play many different characters and campaigns.
But I can't recall one time that we ever based any game using the established Champs "universe".
We always came up with our own settings and stories.

Frankly I'm not too impressed to hear CO got the Champs setting but not the HERO system itself...

[/ QUOTE ]This i agree with. i've played Champions many times, but no GM i've played has ever used used the default universe in their game. Or even the default characters for that matter. The NPC's and settings have usually been custom made and/or extensively reworked.

The game system itself is awesomely flexible, if a bit intimidating to those who hate numbers, but most of the number crunching is just addition and subtraction once you get past character generation and there have been numerous programs written to make it all easier.

The system was very flexible if you could deal with the math. In fact whenever we wanted to try out a new rule system X but had to tinker with enough of its features with house rules to make it work a lot of times we'd throw up our hands and say, "Why bother with rule system X any more? Why don't we just play our idea using the HERO system instead?"
