The Coming Storm
It's good to see that I'm not the only one awake at this time of morning, wishing someone would post!
That's an interesting observation:

To Praetorian Earth, are we really the good guys? Or are we their version of the Rikti, interdimensional nutbags who swoop in and try to beat up their emperor? Think about it.

Do we really have the right to interfere in another world? If so, when?

You mean before or after high-ranking leading figures from that world attempt to invade our world, steal our technology, and kidnap one of our most powerful and iconic heroes all the while stating to anyone who opposes them that their ultimate intent is to conquer our entire planet?
Go read up on Tina Macintyre and Maria Jenkins' arcs if you would; if you really want to insist on Prime Directive adherence we'll for now ignore Battle Maiden's habit of enslaving the tribes in her territory, or Evil Infernal's sacrificing people en masse to summon more demons to bind to his armor, or Mother Mayhem's... 'experimental treatments' on her 'patients', or... The list goes on and on.
Do we have the right? We're heroes. Refusing to stand idly by while the innocent are oppressed, murdered and worse no matter where they live is what we do.
(Villains, of course, rarely need any excuse whatsoever to look for places to plunder, especially when the victims are a dimension away and unlikely to be able to effectively pursue)

Ever notice how all the alternate-universe versions of Statesman are evil?
I kinda wonder if Paragon Earth might be an aberration. After all--if the criminal Marcus Cole is supposed to stay Evil, a dimension where he's 'good' would be the "evil parallel universe" for most. Especially since Paragon Earth set up massive walls to "protect" its citizens, and in Praetoria that wasn't necessary...

[/ QUOTE ]What do you mean 'alternate'? Statesman is a gigantic swaggering bully masquerading under a veneer of respectability because he's the least of a large group of dickheads.

Now that is an interesting thought.
Another interesting point is there is only 1 walled off city in the Rogue Isles. Grandville.
Even more interesting is Recluse largely isn't all that evil. Yes he wants to take over the world, yes he pursues power with some questionable methods, but ultimately he is trying to be the epitome of Survival of the Fittest, which is why the Isles are so chaotic. Afterall chaos breeds change and only the best can survive in such an environment.
I never really cared for the Statesman character.Maybe because he isn't such an ideal hero?
Your theory makes a lot of sense. Especially considering...

...that the notes you find mention the Praetorian Requiem and how we've never met him. Is Praet-Req a Peacebringer? Could the Praetorians be using Khelds as a power source for invading our world?
It would make perfect sense

Primal Earth may just be an aberration. It seems that the influence of Monica Ricter is what kept Marcus Cole on the straight and narrow. None of the other alternate Statesmen seem to have their Monica in their lives.

Not so much sense. It's greatly implied from Twilight's Son that the threat he talks of is from Primal Earth's dimension and not some parallel Earth. From all other indications, this power force seems to be the Battalion which has a mention in game. And from Statesman talking about which came to be the Inventions system, the Battalion were going to be a powerful faction. The player would need invention in order to successfully fight them.
Here's another twist to consider... what if Mender Silos is the Preatorian Nemisis instead of "ours"? This also provides intriguing insights into who might be writing letters.
On a more practical note concerning the "Prepare for assault" remark, I think it means another invasion type event. There's even an obvious trigger in someone switching sides.
It's not how many times you get knocked down that count. It's how many times you get up.
The coming storm involves dimension (server) hopping clones from Virtue Pocket D.
I just wish more was talked about Battalion & More on Mender Silos, the Coming Storm, Rikti Homeworld, etc..
Though its nice for them to go back & bring up 5th Column again, tie up some loose ends there.

The problem is we don't have enough of a good faith in the writing team to believe they have the ability to conclude a plot at all, let alone conclude one well. It's especially frustrating since they have an amazing tool to do something relatively unprecedented in story-driven MMOs.

[/ QUOTE ]With the recent unclosed story arcs and the new tf/sf in i15, I don't have any faith in any of the writers to even pump out a half-good and finished storyline. I also think the new direction for storyline-driven content is absurd. It's just wall of texts to distract you from the next mission. All the story info I get is from the sight. If they want this to be a story driven game, they need to find a better way to deliver it.

[/ QUOTE ]...What? I don't think CoX is a kind of babe-magnet/get rich quick business. And if they're so rich, why don't they hire professional writers? I'd love to run a Brubaker arc, or an Alan Moore arc where my hero is a heroin-addicted jazz critic whose not super powered.

If you read the survey about the Going Rogue expansion pack, it mentions 10 new Univeral Enhancement Slots that "would bring the player to a theoretical level 60" once they earned them all as well as a mysterious alien space station appearing above earth for players to explore and earn these enhancements.
If we assume the space station wasn't scrapped in favour of Praetoria and it and the enhacement slots could be coming AFTER the expansion or even as part of it, the enhancers may be the new powerful edge we'll need to fight the Battalion, and the space station a harbringer of them, assuming they haven't scrapped the ideas.

i have a sad sinking feeling that this ouroboros "coming storm" question will never be answered and that ouroboros will never be looked at agian; just like the Shadow Shard.
although i'd like for there to be a link in the two
Whining about everything since 2006.
Ammo switching for Dual Pistols was my idea:

[/ QUOTE ]Well, it's okay to use slabs of text - I'm fine with that, because it means the story is unobtrusive to those people who don't really care. I've seen a lot of people frustrated by cut scenes because they interrupt combat flow. On the other hand, for those of us who do read the text there's this feeling of Why Bother.

I don't, but Massively does.

I should be noted there's no mention of Praetoria, which is why I suspect that it has replaced the space station idea.

Yeah, I found it a while back. If they somehow deliver on all that (unlikely, but optimistic), I would buy it in a heart beat.

There's a lot of tie-ins to the Shadow Shard with the Midnight Squad.
The only reason the Shard's been abandoned for so long is because it was a failed idea, nobody wants to go there. Ouroboros is still plenty popular.
Okay, I may be out of the loop, I may be just arriving at something already concluded, I know this, and if I am, please be gentle about it, but, I just watched the Going Rogue video for the umpteenth time, and something hit me.
Ouroboros, however it's spelled, and the Menders are here to try to prevent the "Coming Storm" or some such, not sure exactly how it's phrased, now, Tyrant (or Emporer Cole, not sure if this is standard Praetorian earth since this Tyrant and that Tyrant look different. Could just be a new costume, I dunno) says to Maelstrom "Prepare for Assault"
Now, I've taken this to mean one of two possible things.
1.) Tyrant is going to invade our earth, and we're gonna be in trouble. This is likely the actual course of events.
or
2.) Maybe Tyrant is preparing for the assault on his own homeworld. By us. Something to maybe think about. Look at Statesman's eyes as he's just starting to turn towards the camera. That ain't right. I think something may be up with States.
So, if the truth is option 1., do you think this invasion is the Storm the menders talk about? A lot of Oro and Midnighter stuff focuses on Rikti, but lets not rule this out either.
And if the truth is some variation on 2.), well, first, I'll be super excited, and second, I will applaud, bow at the feet of and wash the car of the development team that would make us think of the true nature of good versus evil. To Praetorian Earth, are we really the good guys? Or are we their version of the Rikti, interdimensional nutbags who swoop in and try to beat up their emperor? Think about it.
