Manipulation experiment
[ QUOTE ]
If it's your goal to be on a growing number of ignore lists, I think you're on a road to success. If your goal is to actually enlighten readers or other posters, I think you've got the wrong strategy. If you have no goal, then you are effectively a forum troll, posting for dissent's own sake. Most likely, I think no one knows what your goal is, which makes reading your eternal dissent more frustrating.
[/ QUOTE ]
I laughed. Not at you or even your post, rather because it seems people keep accusing me of having a nefarious agenda, or in your case being on a crusade.
As to why and what I post ?
Well every so often I do an I find this interesting thread. I did this with ticket pricing and when I detailed what I saw as possible in financing a lowbie easily and with minimal impact to play for people that didn't want to "Play the Market"
And yes when I see posts that are wrong, I reply with why I think they are wrong. When someone digs in their heels and gets insulting about it I tend to respond in kind. Finally when time goes by and my position is proven correct, yes I crow about it. Show me anyone on these boards who doesn't.
As to the ignore lists, I really couldn't care one way or the other. That someone would have to use a mechanical filter is a confession of a lack of self control.

Really where have I backtracked or changed my tune here ?

Yeah, that about sums you up doesn't it? I can't believe it took me so long to figure out where you got your rhetoric technique. Now I know why it bugs the [censored] out of me.

Sorry I didn't find it an insult to be compared to one of the most successful speakers of all time. The fact that you can find such a comparison an attempted insult says a lot more about you than my finding it a compliment does about me.

While I have taken exception to AF's debating style (recently we took digs at each other in one or another of the many farming threads), I know that the insults and personal attacks were present in this section before he ever got here.
The fact remains that there are a few individuals that dish out at least as much if not more bile on a daily basis, that never get called out by the rest of the community here. (I'm guessing most people just had one name in particular pop into their head, at least if they've been reading this section of the forums for any length of time)
I think it was peterpeter that started a thread not so long ago that seemed to ask The Market forum to look at itself and wonder if we deserved the reputation as the new PWNZ. It didn't seem to take long for everyone to conclude that having someone bleet insults at people who don't like the market was a good thing and that those people have it coming. (I apologize to peterpeter if I misread the intent of his thread, but the outcome seemed to be as I described)
It would be a lot easier to accept that everyone is wrong when the stoop to insults and personal attacks, if the standard was consistent. In my experience that hasn't been the case.
Even here, we have someone calling someone else a troll, which is an absolutely clear violation of the forum rules. Yet somehow that isn't criticized, but to instead focus on one person, while continuing to ignore the behavior of others.
No one is perfect, obviously, but we can probably all do better than we have in the past.
If you replace "funny" with "wrong", Fan and Ogon are the Laurel & Hardy of the market forums.

Be fair now - he did already say he liked being compared to Rush Limbaugh, so you shouldn't be surprised by this.

Wait, you can place people on ignore on a forum?? That's awesome! That could be the best invention since putting people on ignore in-game (which I use liberally!)
Ahh, sweet blessed silence from the trolls. Cat, you're my new hero.

I know I will regret jumping in here, but what is with the jumping down the throats of people that disagree with you ? I enjoy reading the drama on these threads but this has gotten really ugly and petty.
I am not taking sides here there is plenty of wrong to go around.
What is it with assuming that someone is "jumping down" anyone's "throat" just because they disagree?

I have only ever jumped down one person's throat and I thoroughly explained why. I think most of the throat-jumping I've seen on these forums tends to be directed at certain people because of their "behavior", not because of their opinions.
I guess I got spoiled, living on the LOTRO forums for a while. There are many fewer trolls over there and I forgot how not to feed them. Still, there's something I especially don't like about people screaming "foul" on every market-related thread and then backing up their OPINIONS with fallacious arguments. It's just begging to be debunked, yet it never changes their opinons...which is what people have been telling me for 2 weeks. You just can't get through to some of these people....but for some reason, they get through to lots of people who believe their lies (often times unintentional lies, but non-truths nonetheless).
Okay for reals, I'm done contributing to drama. I will be making use of the ignore function and hopefully that will help on my end. I apologize for my contributions, except where one person is concerned, but that person is on ignore now so I won't be going there again either.

Your personal biases against certain posters here give you selective memory. I have argued vehemently with the person you come ever-so-close to naming in your post, and I still frequently disagree with his argument style. However, the fact remains that I have little reason to argue with him when he and I are posting in a thread both arguing with someone else.
I frequently disagree with you in threads on some fine point or other, and I do not always choose to disagree openly. There are a variety of reasons why I might not reply in argument, which convolve how tangential the point is, how strongly I disagree, and how important I think the tangent is.

Like pwnz, we are frequently faced with posters who come in, ignorant of what we do and why we like it, who sometimes spout usually misinformed vitrol in our direction. That gets old, and lots of people get tired of trotting out reasonable attempts at discourse when it is met with unreasoning conviction of a different viewpoint. It's one thing to meet people who disagree with you philosophically. It's another to have them both disagree with and openly attack your own philosophy, and than ask that this be met with a calm demeanor for months on end.
Some people handle it better than others. Some people care more than others. It's not your job to be the watcher of how much others handle it or care.

There's a problem. One person involved in the contrast you've set up is at odds with the market forum regulars, and one is not. If, for the sake of argument, we dislike neither, which one are we more likely to argue alongside? Don't mistake standing on the same side of a line with someone as whole cloth acceptance of them.

I don't know about you, but I consider the forum rules to be like taxes. They're a neccessary evil for a functioning society, not some set of virtues to which posters should aspire.

LOL the Rush part I take as a compliment. The other part isn't what I said.
What I have been saying is that the fact that you can make in game currency with the market is not in dispute. What is in dispute is that everyone should find it an enjoyable and fun part of the game.
You can't reason taste or custom. I believe this is why so many market people get soooooooooo upset when having these discussions.
Believe it or not I tried to do much the same thing you are trying to do now. I did a thread way back when called playing with the market. I took a starting character, from level 1 to 20 and showed how by just using ordinary play and a little bit of intelligence in using the market there was ZERO problem financing the character. I think I was up over 20 million at level 15 when I stopped. No market tricks just picking my missions and pricing things well. What a pointless waste of time that was. The people that would be inclined to read it, could do as well if not better, the people who don't care for the market didn't care.
