I vote Alex...I'm pretty sure I've seen the Mean Girls do that to unsuspecting noobs on Protector, lol.

This was the hardest choice yet!

Okay, after mulling over this for a looooooong time now, I think I'm finally ready to cast my vote:

Projectionist's recreation of "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper

I tell you all, this was not an easy choice, especially with Lousy_Day's Michelangelo in the running there...and I think I just about got grin-lock from Shia's work. In the end though, I think Proj really did capture the original's essence best with pure and simple elegance.

Wow, that is a really, really hard choice, there is some truly awesome work there.

I'm going to give my vote to Infinite Mucha by ~TrickyTacky, but it's a close call.

(I did really like the nymphs, and the last supper rendition, asthey captured the spirit of both CoX and the original pieces well, The two based on creation of Adam were also awesome, as was the son of Man, oh heck, they were all good)

Tricky Tacky's piece has the most coherent, artistic feel to it... I'd go for that one.

It's not a hard choice for me at all. Two of the entries clearly stood out above the rest, and of those two Projectionist's version of Nighthawks captured the feel of the original best IMO.

I am gobsmacked at the quality of art this time around ....

I am going to vote Projectionist. There's just something about that rendering that is ... haunting.

Had Lousy_Day not been last month's winner, it would have been a harder decision, because that is a freakin awesome piece!!

Alex - I happen to LOVE Bouguereau and have this hanging in my house Gorgeous Babes and your rendition is funny and well executed, so extra kudos to you.

The competition this month was summat fierce!

Dang. this gets harder each week. So many good ones. I love Jugg and Foo and toxic and Apros especially.

But my vote has to go to Lousy. Just something about paint (real or simulated) that makes a difference.

I agree this was very tough. All were very well done! I had a hard time chosing between Projectionist's and Tacky_Tricky's. But, my vote goes to Tacky_Tricky's recreation of "Pequenas" by Alphonso Mucha. I may have to come in here more often.

I vote Alex..

How does Tacky_tricky get votes for just a cut and paste of a border?

Where did he cut and paste the border from? Not the linked original, as the border and background for each is different. For instance, Tricky's has trees in the corners whereas the original has butterflies. Even the crescent design has a different pattern on it.

It's a really well constructed piece, but the character art looks too sharp. It doesn't match up well with the background as far as texture goes. Perhaps that's what gives it the sense of being a copy/paste job.

Projectionist's recreation of "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper wins, hands down. I'm grabbing that for my new wallpaper.

... and you voted for someone who copied and pasted?

Not saying that Alex's work is any less that mine. (In fact, we have almost the same amount of votes) But don't go off making a big deal about stuff that doesn't apply.

im pretty sure that the votes are going on hes highly skilled line drawing's of a cool character. wiether or not the border is copied and pasted is irrelevant. its part of the finished product and if people think that its the best, then they have every right to vote for him.

this is a friendly competition so please try to be respectful.

My vote this round goes to Tacky_Tricky...with Juggertha's piece a close second. Alex and Lousy Day were also in the running.

Very hard to chose this month!

Er, yeah, why are we singling out Tacky_Tricky when a few artists blended things like game elements and bits from the originals with their drawing/painting? Jeez.

Wow, this is tough... there are a lot of good ones in here. Props especially to John Printemps, Lousy Day, The Foo, Projectionist (I notice that the bathroom door looks like the bathroom doors in COH, heh), Toxic, and Tricky. They all had a great look to their piece that was evocative of CoX and the original work.

In the end, I have to pick one.

I'm going to vote for Lousy Day. I think his God figure could stand out from the clouds a little more, but other than that, this is quite impressive. It's evocative of the original in pose, of course, but the lighting, color, and "scratchiness" of the paint makes it look like it's actually on the ceiling of a church in Italy. Very cool, and very reminiscent of the original (and the Nemesis staff is iconic of COH, of course).

This is how I feel as someone who almost voted for Tacky_Tricky. His piece was in my top 3 for my dice roll, and the background in his piece was a big part of it.

I, too, had assumed that the borders were TT's own designs, since they were different from the originals. I noticed the graininess associated with low quality JPGs, but even then, I was innocent enough to believe it was an artificial effect for the look he was going for in the piece. In fact, I was so impressed with the background I had to ask him how he did it on his deviation page, to which he never replied.

I got the answer a day later by pm from someone who I won't mention the name but happened to be an admirer of Mucha's works, and he showed me with links that the patterns were from Mucha's other works.

Both Alex and Projectionist clearly stated that they used screenshots from the game. I still think TT did a wonderful job on the character itself. But not mentioning his sources for the background was deceiving, and it led more than one person to believe it was his own work. This is a friendly contest, but it doesn't mean we can just copy and paste anything we want without giving credit where it is due.

Never mind all that: I missed one of the rocks in my version of the cover! [censored].

I just realized that TA's first post doesn't link to my original posting page . This might have made quite a few miss my comment on how the piece was made. It is indeed, as have been stated in this thread, a mix of screenshots and the original painting with some overpainting done to blend and change the characters.

If anyone who voted for me wish to change their vote it's perfectly understandable, no hard feelings whatsoever.
