Well there's this new thing out now, you might have heard of it, it's called "Freedom of Choice."*
Yes, new “Freedom of Choice” with “Askitol” allows you to ask questions about products to make informed decisions before you choose to buy.

But wait! There’s more! “With Freedom of Choice” You actually can choose to NOT buy!! That’s right, new “Freedom of Choice” puts the decision making power in YOUR hands! You can actually refuse to buy any product at your very own discretion!!

But wait! There’s still more…
With new “Freedom of Choice” you don’t need to stop at the purchasing of products, you can actually use “Freedom of Choice” with virtually any decision making process.

Use it for all these everyday applications:
- Boxers or briefs?
- Ginger or Mary Ann?
- Chinese or Italian?
- Umbrella or chance it?
- Making unnecessary posts that could possibly make you look like a butthead on game forums
- And more!!

And best of all, for those who are ever on the lookout for “some cool free stuff” new “Freedom of Choice” is absolutely FREE!!!... COOL!!

*Disclaimer:
Freedom of Choice has been reported to diminish in effectiveness under certain situations such as:
-Age of maturity
-law
-citizenship
-religion
-cultural expectation
-and predominatly, marriage
-other situations may or may not diminish Freedom of Choice

Edited for disclaimer

But aren't there some serious risks with freedom of choice™ ?

And how does this magnificent product influence my life? I am a married male age 18-35. How could this freedom of choice™ benefit me?

Not to rain on anyones parade or take away from the excellent work Jay and his assistant put into this and all the other packs.
BUT...

Angry_Citizen and others do have a point.

Jay and his assistant are already on the NCSoft payroll, which is income generated from the normal monthly fees that are paid to play the game.

If NCSoft didn't want to put any new outfits into the game for customers or npc's then they would not have Jay on staff.

However, since they do have Jay on staff doing his normal work for which his salary is already being taken care of. And for which his time scheduling is already included. Taking him away from his normal time to produce micro transaction items (Not to mention Babs had to be involved for the emotes), and then charging extra for these items *is* what Angry_Citizen is talking about.

If microtransactions weren't now part of this game (thanks to everyone who keeps buying them { Myself Included }), then Jay and crew would be producing these same items for the game normally.

Would they be part of some set schedule? Surely they would. It isn't as if they are coming fast and furious as part of microtransactions after all.

So, Angry_Citizen does have a valid point in what his beliefs or feelings are regarding these mircotransactions.

NCSoft has found a way to generate more income for the company without extra expense.
Smart business decision on their part, but it does cost its playerbase. While the playerbase seems mostly favorable to these microtransactions and seems to purchase them (they must, or NCSoft would probably not continue to do them), it could be argued that they would come without the microtransaction itself.

Now, for myself , I find the idea of microtransactions a little frustrating (based on the history of *this* game not having microtransactions from the start), but I am in a position to easily afford the extra expense so I buy the ones that appeal to me.

Angry_Citizen and those that agree with him completely should always be allowed to voice their opinions as well as those who gladly buy into the microtransaction action. We really shouldn't harp on anyone who disagrees with the party line. They are the ones who help keep everyone honest

Many of those costume pieces are very nice, and will work well not only with magical characters, but old-timey characters of a variety of origins.

But a temp power that has the random potential to impose a twenty minute debuff on other players? This does not seem wise.

I have to disagree with you.
First of all "but it does cost its playerbase" is wrong. It only costs the segment of the playerbase who uses Freedom of Choice to buy. No one else. To say microtransactions cost the playerbase is like saying SIRIUS Satellite Radio cost all motorists.

In case you want to argue that BaB's time, and all involved, are the cost you speak of, I submit, the success of the First Microtransaction pack made VEATs earlier release date possible. So that was a bonus not a cost. I imaging continuing such packs mean more benefit then cost to the playerbase.

Another thing to consider is adaptability. In the business world you have to be adaptive. IBM would have gone out of business decades ago had they stuck with typewriters. Sure microtransactions were not with the game from the start, but had the Devs adopted the mantra of "We will not introduce anything new. We will only stick to what we started with at the beginning of the game" This game would have evaporated about a year before City of Villains was released.

The microtransaction packs do not change the game. They are extras. Sure it would be great if they were free. I can't argue about that. Just like I can't argue that it would be great if once you buy the car, all the fuel is free. But its not, and its not unfair to have to buy fuel.

Its not unfair to buy these little extras. How often do you see anyone in a clothing store griping that all the accessories should be free? I bought the same suit as your last customer. How about giving me a silk tie, gold cufflinks, oh and a nice gold tie clip with a diamond stud in it for free? No, the fancy silk tie with the cool design embroidered on it! Um, maybe the cuff links should have diamonds to match the tie clip.

Microtransactions, booster packs, whatever, for purchase are fine. The player has the Freedom of Choice to buy or not to buy and its not game breaking if they don't.

Meh, it'll be a vet reward in 6 months, why pay $10 for it now.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, it won't.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sexy J put waaaaaaay to much work into this it wont be

[/ QUOTE ]
Well it's not just that. The Devs long ago said that they would never release items like this for free that we initially had to pay for.

I know some people got bent all out of shape when the Devs "gave away" the Prestige Sprints and the Arachnos Helmets as Vet awards. Problem with that thinking is that those things (which were FREEBIE extras we didn't pay for) were never promised to be permanently exclusive at all. In fact back during the time those things were bundled with the pre-releases the Devs specifically told us that they would eventually make those things available to the general playerbase which they now have as Vet Awards. Far from breaking a promise they actually -kept- their promise on that.

Bottomline I would never expect to see any exact thing that comes in a retail booster to ever appear in the game again in any other way. They actually DON'T want to piss people off who at first bought something which later on became a free item.

Well I'll admit it's finally cool to see costume change emotes like these make it into the game. But like others have said on this thread people (like myself) have been suggesting them for years now.

Better late than never I guess.

Actually, not really... people like AC who only complain (especially without anything constructive to add) get put on ignore. The AC crowd can't keep anyone honest when people just stop listening.

[*]Mystic Fortune Power:

Ever wanted to have your fortune read in game? With the Mystic Fortune power players will be able to offer to read each other’s fortunes. Having your fortune read gives a power buff based on the Major Arcana of the Tarot, and can give a positive or negative effect on that character for the next 20 minutes.

[/ QUOTE ]

I sure hope the effects of this power are deletable before 20 minutes ... I don't want some terd I don't know, running up to me, using their power, and now i'm debuffed for the next 20 minutes with no way to prevent it/remove it.

[/ QUOTE ]

The effect is NOT deletable, however, you are given a confirmation as to whether or not you accept having your fortune told. If you say 'No,' you get no fortune and the person who cast it now has to wait the full recharge time to try again.

(But, uh... what about those boots on the guys? I have a pirate. She wants the boots. She must have them. (She wants the coat, too, but, well, the boots more so.))

Though either way, I'll be getting it. I have a gothity queen of the night type who that cloakrobethingie would be awesome on.

One drawback of the internet is how it has trained so many people to think that one day is a long time.

Any chance we'll have a permanent "off" switch for accepting those fortune readings?

I'm getting tired of these $10 costume packs. I could possibly understand ONE special $10 pack. But now there are 4, with more coming. I don't think people should have to pay $40 extra if they want to access costume pieces other than veteran ones. It just strikes me as majorly low and cheap.
