I may not always agree with AC, but at least he's civil about his opinions. I like the other guys who, together, called us brainwashed chumps for liking the pack.
Woot witch hat for Red Side! Nice stuff SexyJ. Any chance you could make up a .gif or 2 of the costume change emotes?

This.
I'm really excited about this one, although this may be the first booster my wife gets first
I like this set a lot. I'm a bit surprised by the power , I hope it uses a wand or staff or something in its animation, that is sort of what I was hoping to see.

I'm getting tired of these $10 costume packs. I could possibly understand ONE special $10 pack. But now there are 4, with more coming. I don't think people should have to pay $40 extra if they want to access costume pieces other than veteran ones. It just strikes me as majorly low and cheap.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are only two. Similar to the GvE and Mac Edition extras, the Booster Packs are only that--paid extras. They have no bearing on your gameplay, and if you choose to spend money on them it is your own decision. I cannot understand why one would elect not to purchase them of their own free will, and then complain about the context and price.
Unless you did buy them, in which case as...

I remember reading an interview with an executive (perhaps the president) of NCSoft regarding the total aquisition of the City Of franchise. The fact was brought up that some games released overseas to which that executive was associated had purchaseable items. I'm paraphrasing loosely! Does someone have a link to that article please?
When the executive was asked if he planned to charge City Of Heroes/City of Villains players for extra in-game goodies, he seemed to indicate that he wasn't leaning toward it at the time, however he'd think about it. The article appeared maybe a week? month? after the official announcement that Cryptic had passed over the game to NCSoft. His words were still fresh in my mind when the Wedding Pack was announced, and I thought, "Oh no! Save us Statesman!! Hello... Statesman? Oh right, wrong deity. Save us, Posi!!!1."
After seeing what other games do, I can "rationalize" NCSoft's willingness to charge for things I don't HAVE to have in order to enjoy the main game. I call it a case of Could Be Worse syndrome when I think about all the games who went as far to charge for things like bug fix patches.
Workaround to costume change theatrics for those on a tight budget:
I've used my Katana, Dual Blade, and Claws characters' twirl-around attacks (which can be used out of combat) as a Diana P. -> W. Woman outfit change since Issue 11. Villains can pull off a POOF effect with a quick click of the Midnighter's visage temp power. Characters with Healing Aura, Fire Sword Circle or Domination's explode effect can kind of get away with this. Don't forget /e alakazamreact Mostly, I just run around a corner or behind a tree and jump out TADA! (Oops! Forgot my pants... brb...) TADA!!!!!
Considering the cash spent to send my friend in Seattle to the Penny Arcade Expo just to get me one of those PPD Hardsuit outfit codes, the cost of a boxed version of the upcoming Magic booster pack (free month included) is quite reasonable to me!
I still want a booster pack with all thiry-three Halloween Trick or Treat Costumes IN ONE PACK! :P

[*]Mystic Fortune Power:
Ever wanted to have your fortune read in game? With the Mystic Fortune power players will be able to offer to read each others fortunes. Having your fortune read gives a power buff based on the Major Arcana of the Tarot, and can give a positive or negative effect on that character for the next 20 minutes.
[/ QUOTE ]
I sure hope the effects of this power are deletable before 20 minutes ... I don't want some terd I don't know, running up to me, using their power, and now i'm debuffed for the next 20 minutes with no way to prevent it/remove it.
[/ QUOTE ]
The effect is NOT deletable, however, you are given a confirmation as to whether or not you accept having your fortune told. If you say 'No,' you get no fortune and the person who cast it now has to wait the full recharge time to try again.

[/ QUOTE ]Consider my situation:
Previously, I had about a game a month habit. That's $50 a month, if not two or three during big game release months. Now, because I play this game, I don't have that habit.
So, it's $45 dollars every three months.
I don't even have one of the latest consoles. Which, if I wasn't playing this game, I more than likely would have one.
So, an extra 10 dollars every few months, isn't going to kill me. Especially compared to what my spending habits were before City of Heroes/Villains. $10 is cheap.
anyone else having trouble seeing the pictures?
I wanna it!!!!!
I can see it now... just like when the Cyborg pack came out all the Cable wanna-be's running around Atlas, now there will be Dr. Strange wanna-be's. /*wonder's how his Dr S will look* hehe, j/k 8)
If its broke, don't fix it... I like the chaos!
For those that need absolute clarification and transparency; the High Collar is separate from the new hood. Remember when I said that we would never have high collars in the game because of limitations. Well I just found a creative solution to the problem and the result is what you see. The High Collar works like the other cape/back detail category. Id like to hedge off the flamers in advance, the High Collar clips with most of the sholderpads, sorry. I love you all.

A surprising opinion, considering the free issues we get are much larger. Costume packs are entirely optional, unlike the free issues. So required additions to the game are free, and optional stuff is $10.
I wouldn't want that reversed.

Well I'll admit it's finally cool to see costume change emotes like these make it into the game. But like others have said on this thread people (like myself) have been suggesting them for years now.
Better late than never I guess.

I'd like to point out that the Devs DID say that not doing the pack wouldn't have made us get more costume options.
Because it's ONLY because they're pay-for that we get them. The only way they can justify adding such high quality expansive options(and thus allocate resources from something else) is to charge for them.
Throw that on top of the wad of cash they get for doing this. Which appears to give them a larger budget to mess with and thus step up production of things. And...
Well. I'm all for it.
THE ONLY THING I AM WORRIED ABOUT. Is the lack of free costume options.
I mean, honestly? Where has the modeling guy's time gone? And not just Jay. I see needing a 2d artist to make up the UI. And an environment artist to do the building. AND effects/animation artists to do the effects.
But that ONE building couldn't have seriously drained all the art talent they had. Right? It was just one building. Copy/pasted around. It's a more than little suspicious.
[ QUOTE ]
I have to disagree with you.
First of all "but it does cost its playerbase" is wrong. It only costs the segment of the playerbase who uses Freedom of Choice to buy. No one else. To say microtransactions cost the playerbase is like saying SIRIUS Satellite Radio cost all motorists.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is the only part of the playerbase that can be relevant, the part that pays for the extras. Which is why I wasn't meaning so inclusive as to include *all* the playerbase. Anyone who chooses not to buy, it not part of this. Although it might be argued that they were given less of Jay and teams time because of the extras. But we won't go into that.
[ QUOTE ]
In case you want to argue that BaB's time, and all involved, are the cost you speak of, I submit, the success of the First Microtransaction pack made VEATs earlier release date possible. So that was a bonus not a cost. I imaging continuing such packs mean more benefit then cost to the playerbase.
[/ QUOTE ]
Was there overtime or something put in to get that in the early release? No one knows, but I do agree that they said the extra cost allowed the Veats early.
*Remember, I am one of the ones buying these
[ QUOTE ]
Another thing to consider is adaptability. In the business world you have to be adaptive. IBM would have gone out of business decades ago had they stuck with typewriters. Sure microtransactions were not with the game from the start, but had the Devs adopted the mantra of "We will not introduce anything new. We will only stick to what we started with at the beginning of the game" This game would have evaporated about a year before City of Villains was released.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, I completely don't accept this. That is to say I don't accept this arguement in support. No game that is an MMO can expect to not put more into the game within the first year to two of the launch. I know of no MMO that has ever done that and stayed in the game.
I can and do *accept* the change in marketing as it were. I already stated that I buy these packs that I like.
If it is the idea in general that you support some companies need to change to stay in business, then yes, I agree to that.
Only NCSoft can say if Microtransactions were necessary to stay where they wanted, or were something extra they decided and found it works for them.
[ QUOTE ]
Sure it would be great if they were free. I can't argue about that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Isn't this just what A_C is saying? They would be great if they were not 'free', but part of the normal subscription.
Again, I think we can all agree on that part too, I mean a vast majority of the playerbase would agree they would love if they were part of the normal subscription.
[ QUOTE ]
Microtransactions, booster packs, whatever, for purchase are fine. The player has the Freedom of Choice to buy or not to buy and its not game breaking if they don't.
[/ QUOTE ]
I completely agree with you here. Everyone has the freedom of choice in buying or not.
For myself, I choose to buy the ones I like or don't. But I do understand what A_C is talking about and where his mindset is on the topic. To a degree, he has a point.
NCSoft has chosen to go with microtransactions. With that, you can virutally guarentee that each time they produce something doing that, there will be those that like it, those that don't and those that don't care either way.
For myself, I choose to check each set out and then decide if I want to buy or not. I don't like microtransactions, but I am not the owner of this company
