Costume "sets" dumb down the possibilities of this wonderful tool , show a failure to recognize its potential and needlessly limit the creative control of the player.
[/ QUOTE ]
Have you ever actually stood around in Atlas Park and Mercy Island? Since both games launched up to the present, people have been making terrible, uncreative costumes whether we have costume sets or not. Here's a fun game to play. Stand in Fort Darwin and count the number of villains you see running by wearing black/red, black/purple, or black/blue outfits.
It's just not an argument I understand, considering that I know I'm not the only person who cherry picks individual pieces of costume sets to make existing costumes better. If anything, I welcome more costume sets, because then the uncreative types will have something ready-made so they don't look like they were attacked by a rummage sale.

Forgive me if this is too obvious, but if they look that bad, why not simply prohibit certain ATs or power sets from taking them?
[/ QUOTE ]
Let me clarify something here, because everyones taking Posis joke about Martial Arts a bit too literally. The only animations that robes look okay with are the basically the ones where you stand around fully upright. So the idle animations, a handful of powers, and a number of emotes. They get trashed pretty quickly the second you go into even a basic combat stance, much less something as extreme as taking a knee to rest. There are numerous core animations (animations that are shared between all player characters) that would be problematic with attempting to add full length robes to our current player model skeletons. That's before even getting into specific powersets or ATs.
This is not a limitation because of Martial Arts. Its an issue with all player characters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Would a robe like this work with your animations? The legs can move independently but it still looks very robe-like. Looks quite nice too in my opinion.

[*]Mystic Fortune Power:
Ever wanted to have your fortune read in game? With the Mystic Fortune power players will be able to offer to read each others fortunes. Having your fortune read gives a power buff based on the Major Arcana of the Tarot, and can give a positive or negative effect on that character for the next 20 minutes.
[/ QUOTE ]
I sure hope the effects of this power are deletable before 20 minutes ... I don't want some terd I don't know, running up to me, using their power, and now i'm debuffed for the next 20 minutes with no way to prevent it/remove it.
[/ QUOTE ]
The effect is NOT deletable, however, you are given a confirmation as to whether or not you accept having your fortune told. If you say 'No,' you get no fortune and the person who cast it now has to wait the full recharge time to try again.
[/ QUOTE ]
...so it's a power that's never going to get used because nobody's going to want to chance getting a bad debuff for 20 minutes that they can't remove. Awesome!
[/ QUOTE ]
I can see griefing with this one. I really do.
[/ QUOTE ]
Given the confirmation dialog, I don't. But I still see it as being useless. Unless the debuffs are minor and the buffs are really good, but that'd make it too good for an item pack power.

Imagine this: you are invited to a Lady Grey TF and don't know what to bring. You get your fortune read on your brute, and it's negative. So you log out and bring your rad instead.

You could swap the legs model out with another geoset that obeys the same armatures and contains the same amount of vertexes as the two normally shaped legs, but is differently shaped. You could then delete the faces of some of the inside vertexes toward the middle and draw faces in such a way that you would not need to create new animations, just a new legs model with the same vertex labels and bone assignment. The feet would have to be detached from the leg model and would look ok from every angle except looking straight up into the robe. WoW executes robes like this, but at the same time you do not see people getting knocked back in that game, so it may stick out a lot in this game.
I'm curious why the list of female parts doesn't include the skull mask. It seems like it would be a useful option for certain themes - not everyone who wears a skull is the Grim Reaper or Jack the Ripper.
I don't know why people would actually refuse to have their fortune told if what City of Data says is correct. Out of 9 possible outcomes, only 2 have minimal negative effects. The Fool has -To Hit, but +recharge and +speed. Unless the To Hit debuff was around 20%, then I might have a problem, but 5% or less certainly makes up for the +recharge buff. The Tower has damage done to you, but you do more damage. I find this power to be more of give a teammate a random buff for 20 minutes. If they had some risk added to using it, then I would be more careful in accepting my fortune to be told. The only problem I have with this power is that I can't give it to myself.
I have absolutely no problem with the costumes and will use some of them in my costumes.

That actually sounds like a perfect compromise.

.. please?
So what will Super Booster III be, Natural, Science, or Mutation? Or will they be different themes like alien or monster? Wouldn't mind having the big eyes that Greys have.

[/ QUOTE ]Purely conjecture, but I think we might be getting some of the things we've asked for in these other pack. Science I really have no clue, but I imagine some of the other stuff will be requests. I would guess the mutant pack might include some of the animal pieces that lots of folks have requested. And, probably just a hope here, that the natural pack will include some tribal kind of stuff. Perhaps loincloths and the like. Whichever is next, I just hope that it's very soon. Too long between cyborg and magic.

What about the boots and the frockcoats? Are they available for female characters?
Could we have some classy rather than skanky options please?
[/ QUOTE ]
For those concerned about being able to show less skin with the witch leather, there are screenshots linked to MorganaFiolett's post over on the European forums. It looks like the version in the announcement is the "with skin" option. Unless this item was dropped, I'm thinking there will be some happy witches out there.
This was the screenshot of the witch top we were told not to use by Nieviene back in January.
Looking forward to the new costume options. I love the "faux fur" witch's vestment/cloak.
I would love something like the scribe robe somebody posted..that would be hella cool.
As for these costume sets, I hardly ever dress a character in nothing but one set. I love to mix and match instead. I've got a few of my characters who wear a Samurai chestplate with the valkyrie belt and armoured kilt, and it looks hella nice. I customize further by using different shoulder plates like Justice, as well as different options for gloves and boots. So I get to play with the shiny new costume bits, and don't look like a clone.
I've done well in costume contests with characters so attired- they do stand out from the ones who just picked "Samurai" "Cyborg" or "Valkyrie" from a dropdown set list and left it at that.

Sets or no, the bad costumes will always be around, and again, they already have the ready made costumes available.
Ideally it would be possible to "make" a set and have those ready made patterns available to players from the dropdown box but there currently isn't a philosophy of diversity when designing these sets.
I'd rather (and I think everyone else would too but just dont know it) have texturable shapes that can be cut or added to, such as how helmets can be designed: Sphere base, now put on your flourishes and patterns. Is it a communications helmet or more of a mech thing or a combination, or is it an ancient helmet with a horn pattern? What horn pattern? You decide! A combination of ancient warrior helmet and tech stuff, theres an interesting helmet that you've explained in your unique bio, cool. Maybe its a sports themed hero or one that runs so fast he needs an aerodynamic visor. Oh, and in case you cant figure out how to make your viking character, here is a premade viking costume from the dropdown box. Or others: Bam, mystic armored hero. Bam, SWAT team. Bam android.
Instead developers are being the creative ones and showing us what they made. We have to try and make our characters match their designs. Or if we are lucky one costume part might work with another one from another set but this is just pure coincidence if it does.
How about releasing a set of shapes and then showing us an example of some of the things which can be done with it and those can be your "awesome character screen shots"
You'd really hate WoW wouldn't you then?

Don't get me wrong. I realize this is the best system there is and I'm picking at nits.
Some of the items can go really well together, I have made quite a few costumes that I get complimented on made out of mixes of cyborg, enforcer, justice (I still love justice, I consider it one of my favorite sets after all these years.), and occasionaly, vanguard and stealth. I have seen many people who have made all sorts parts go together well in ways I would not have thought of. This system does work very well. In fact, my main complaint other than costumes we know wouldnt work with some animations, is that we dont have enough costume parts that exist outside sets. The only ones that are not made specificaly for some sets that I remember getting in a while would be pain and layered shoulder pads. I really wish we had more things like this to get more players to give more thought to the costumes, instead of choosing full enforcer heavy. (I see WAY to much of that. Seriously, I used to love the set, now I despise it, at least when most of peoples costumes is made up of it.) Think of the details you can add to full helmets, I wish we had more items like that, that were not met to go with any one set.

So why can't you guys just make a special set of animations for anyone in a rob, such that anyone who takes a robe costume piece never moves their legs more than with small steps. I mean, you'd only have to make special versions of what, 80 or 90 percent of the animations? That doesn't seem so bad...

Most of my characters would only use this if there was a "Magic 8-ball" emote for the power animation.

[/ QUOTE ]As of the most recent update to City of Data, Mystic Fortune can grant one of 9 fortunes based on the 22 Major Arcana of the tarot.
**ONE** of those 9 buffs includes a debuff. The Fool is -3% tohit. It also includes +Recharge, +Speed, and +Movement Control.
**ONE** of those 9 buffs includes a negative effect other than a debuff. The Tower deals one tick of resistable Lethal damage. It also includes +Damage.
