Anyone remember the old gold box dnd games? pool of radiance etc? Those games had awesome(16 color) graphics and were so much better than what came before.

Great post, Posi. That brings back some memories.

OC, for us real old timers, there is one "tip of the hat" that would have made for perfection ....

You are in a twisty maze of passages, all alike

Arguably the grand daddy of them all.

/e gets all misty eyed with nostalgia ...

Scrappers are just like chainsaws. Somewhat hard to handle, EXTREMELY dangerous, and by far the most fun when wielded by the slightly insane.

So was the first computer version on Tape Cassette or floppy disc?

I think the first game I ever got for my C64 was Battle of Midway - it was on a tape. Each Japanese TF was represented by a J - I loved that game!

Took about 15 minutes to load.

How do you get out of a room that only has a mirror and a table.? No wondows no doors nothing.

You look in the mirror and see what you saw. You take the saw and cut the table in half. Two halves make a whole and you crawl out.

Fasepalm.

Thank you, City of Heroes, for giving me a superhero social network combined with amazingly smooth game play. Petitions signed with realistic expectations.

You know Scott Adams is still making those games(no not the same guy who wrote the dilbert comics)...he made one just a few years ago called :Return to Pirate Island.

And on his web site you can get the interpreters and the actual games he did.

You can play them on your modern machine and have lots of fun.

His website is: http://www.msadams.com/

all you'd really have to do to make this almost a text game from where it is right now is give everyone the mission teleporter and phase out zones altogether and take out knock back just like the players want so they don't have to move when fighting.

Already every mission is available via a menu and you can go from 1-50 by standing in one place because mission architect was put in as a "simulator" that is in one building in every zone.

... funny, I've had the "console" enabled since this was announced, so far I can't seem to get past "Starting Game".

Then this big ugly GUI pops up and obscures the thing. If I bring it to the fore, it won't take my cursor.

... wait, what?

.... crap.

I tried playing this "Golden Age" thing on a dual-core machine with 3GB of RAM and a fast SATA, and this is what I saw:

<font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>
ALERT: You are playing this game too fast. We have
nerfed your processor speed and IO throughput to
that of a Tandy 1000A 8086-based PC, for which it
was designed. Additionally, we just wiped your
character, and you will have to start over.

Ah the golden age where everyone was so wrapped up in playing new things, there was no time to start whining about how other players were playing the game.

I reached the level 30 in 4 days then got hit with a message.

******

You are not playing the game as I want you to play it. You will be banned. Your character deleted. All your toons belong to me.
