I'm surprised no one has mentioned this article about Zork the Movie.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Posi, if you guys make that text based MMO, I'll pay for it on top of my normal CoX subscription.

Reminds me of playing Rakka-Tu on my Apple IIe

You guys may also want to look into making a CoH game for the Atari 2600.

"It is still early. Someone is going to get stabbed tonight I can feel it." - Ishmael (said in Jello Shooters chat)

Yeah, I quit my first attempt at one of those games. It went something like this:

Your plane lands and taxis up to the airport. The door opens and the staircase wheels up to it.
>LEAVE PLANE
I don't understand what you mean.
>LEAVE PLANE
I don't understand what you mean.
>EXIT PLANE
I don't understand what you mean.
>GO OUT OF PLANE
I don't understand what you mean.
>LEAVE AIRPLANE
I don't understand what you mean.

... I'm kind of amazed that I lasted 15 minutes with the thing. I never STARTED the adventure.

I'm guessing you didn't try "Go staircase"?

Gah, having a TRS-80 flashback here. Great to see this one though. Brought back memories.

I still have fond memories of Suspended and all those little adorable little robots.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh, the robots. I loved Poet. He was almost as hard to understand as Sensa.

Actually, once I'd beaten the game, I spent hours going up to every little thing in the game and having each robot describe it to me. It's like that fable about the blind men trying to describe an elephant.

(One secret to the game, though, was that once you learned how a particular robot referred to an object, you could use that name any time, even if you started over. So if there was an object that one robot described too vaguely, or with too long a name, you could use another robot's name for it. Whiz was quite useful for that since he referred to everything by its library database number)

Funny, I have a toon named Cpt. Liberty. Not quite the same though, and variations on the name are pretty common.

Personally, I'm wondering why they chose Horatio for the main characters name.

Wasn't that Horus from the original comic runs' real first name? And I recall his schtick pre-kheld merger as being a dude with power armor and energy blasts.

Hrm, didn't think of that. If that's the case, it'd make it even more awesome.

(Semi-)seriously, that would be the one major, actual advantage (other than nostalgia) of a text-based game- near-complete power customization would be really easy to implement. Oh, and character appearance customization could be even better than it currently is. Of course, you wouldn't actually be able to SEE that customization, only read about it...

Horatio was one of the first heroes to use powered armor. He's the DATA guy in Atlas Park. Real name is Rick Davies.

And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

These were the days! I've not seen mention of this game, and it was pretty much the greatest mud ever made. It's worth checking out as there are still BBS's that run it.

Ah the 80s text-based games... where's the Excedrin???

I've seen the C64 CoH avatar Icon on the Forums... that might have almost worked as a side-scroller... I heard you played a character named MageTank.

And I've seen the CoH Atari Cartridge label on one of the sites... but they never got to the CoV one... unfair!!!

So was the first computer version on Tape Cassette or floppy disc?

I seem to remember Compute! magazine starting a Champions PnP conversion to C64 game via a monthly column, but they never finished it... and so many columns of code to type in manually!!!

.. then again, that might have all just been in my over-stressed and fragmented mind...
