Guide: Solving Vista Error 13/14/driver stopped..
Mine was doing this but backing of my overclock seems to have fixed it...still should not be happening over a little .4 ghz oc.

Nevermind it did not help....

this whole problem didnt exist until i12 was dropped. whatever they did to the programming is what is casuing this. the comp im on right now i bought right after i11 dropped and had no problems. as soon as i12 dropped is when the problems started. it is not our comp's and we should not be asked to go through a series of riggamarole to play.
My old computer worked fine. This one is brand new and for some reason it randomly happens. I played last night with no issues and then it happened right away this morning.
Everything else runs fine and this only happens in CoH.

Yes it did, though it might not have been happening to you.
According to the hotfix, this is a timing issue. Timing issues are VERY tricky things. They happen when the timing is just right. For instance, if the crash only happens when a certain, rather rare graphics command is sent when the graphics card is calculating the very first pixel of a screen, that would be a timing issue. You can go for hours with no issues then get hit, or you could get hit in the first five seconds. If the timing is such that the game never issues that particular command at that particular time, you'll never get the issue. If I12 (or a video driver that came out near I12) happened to change the speed in either direction, then you could suddenly start getting the error. Another patch could change your timings again so you don't get the problem any more but could cause other people to have the problem.

If that's the attitude you want to take, I would suggest dropping PC gaming and going for a console. If you want to play the biggest and best games, then you need to be willing to go through that "riggamarole" fairly often.
I am going to try the fixes and maybe roll back my driver..going to give EVGA a call if these things do not work.

Hotfix applied and everything is fine so far.

I'm having similar problems to those listed in this thread. I've started a new thread of my own and includes the requested information here

I would love to apply the hotfix but the link provided leads to the 64bit vista and I am running the 32.
I know I am a bit special edd but I cant find the 32 bit hotfix. If someone could link it I would love them forever.
Psycho, the link leads to BOTH versions of the hotfix. However if you failed to fully read the thread you may not realize that you MUST use IE to brows that page and you MUST expand out the "show more" options so you see everything. Its all there. Heck I even included a image in some post or another of what your looking for. You can NOT link directly.
Getting this error as well. Just started playing about 3 weeks ago. I used the hotfix first, but I did not see a recommended driver set to roll back to for my GPU. I have a 9500GT 1GB Nvidia card.
Any advice?

Not sure if you meant to be rude or if it just came off that way to me. BUT, I am using IE, I DID click "show additional information" and yet that did not change the fact that all I see are two hotfixes both stating for platform x86. Which I believe was stated to be for vista 64.
I appreciate the assistance, I really do. I am sorry if my inability to find the hotfix is frustrating you.
x86 is for the vista 32 bit version. i have vista 32bit and this is what it tells me the version is when i look at it in my computer. i havent applied the hot fixes yet but am looking into them as i am having issues other then just the video card one.
just looked to verify and yes x86 is 32 bit and the x64 is 64 bit. also, SP2 for vista is still in beta stages and npot completely ready for full release. all you have is a test platform for feedback on anything that needs to be changed with it before release according to microsoft.com.

Where do I find where it tells me that I have x86? I look in "system" all I see is it says I have the 32 bit system.
run cohhelper and hijack this and it says which version it is in the report.
Thanks for the reply Quint. I guess thats what was causing me so much confusion. The OP says the x86 is for 64 bit. I read the reply that stated it needed to be swapped but with the post being so dated I was not sure if it had been or not.
I am completely and utterly confused by this thread. While I've been experiencing this problem once or few times a day (depending how long I'm playing), its not a serious issue. True it's annoying and somewhat downright aggravating at times, but I barely understand half of what's being said. Is it really worth risking to screw up my brand new spankin' computer to just improve my CoH/CoV experience a little bit?
Seriously, I just bought this mechanical marvel last month. I don't want to mess it up. True, it'd be nice to not have my game experience interrupted anymore....
Umm. Suggestions?
I wonder if this is the game and DX10. I am not reading all 15 pages so I am not sure if this was brought up already. But I get the random crashes in Vista which has DX10. Since beta testing Windows 7 which has DX11, no crashes on the same machine under Windows 7.
Of course I didn't get the crashes during Vista beta either so take that for what it's worth.
For graphics, this game uses OpenGL (like Doom, Quake, Prey, etc.). To my knowledge the only major difference between Dx9 and Dx10 centers around the 3D graphics portion of Dx10.
Microsoft with Vista tried to make the OS more stable by forcing the device drivers, especially graphics, to run in a mode where if they fail, they can be restarted and not take down the OS. And while Microsoft also tried to convince the PC gamer ecosystem (developers and players) that Dx10 is the cat's meow, other parts of Vista wasn't all that friendly to the way developers coded games in the past or the use of multiple video cards. Vista is a lot more stable now than when it first came out and graphics drivers are a lot more stable now then when Vista first came out. But don't think one minute that all the backward compatibility issues have been addressed.

Well, looks like I don't really need to worry about this anymore. I tried the Hotfix that's been linked to in multiple threads, and it... well... worked.
I'm pleased.
Running dual Athlon 6k, 4g ram, Nvidia 9600GT. NVLDMMwhatever it is errors since I got my computer a few months back. Tried hotfix - no luck. Increased crashes since I-14. Wife got new computer (similar setup to mine, except Athlon Phenom with 6 gig ram and Nvidia 9500) and having same issues. Very annoying, especially with how long it's been a known issue. Any ideas?

Ran the hot fix, and haven't had a crash all day. That's the longest I've gone since I got this new 'puter, thx alot Tease
Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?
Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

Hot fix hasn't addressed it. Yesterday I played most of the day and then crashed twice within an hour. Today, I play about 4 hours no problem and then crashed about four times within a two hour period. I am a Vista 64 user and game is still crashing (video driver has stopped working). Same is happening for two others that I know.
We just got into CoH/CoV recently as a group. We are becoming a little disheartened by this issue. I will not continue my subscription if this is not fixed realitively quickly. I play other MMO's on this machine and never crash....and one of those is older then CoH.
I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones. I have a 8800GT that was factory OC'd. Gateway doesn't recommend any drivers besides what they have listed, which I think are 161.25. After i13 I started having some crashes regularily so I went to the latest drivers. Still crashed. Disabled physix, still crashed. Figured a way to remove the factory OC, still crashed. Installed hotfix: So far, no crashes since the hotfix was installed. Running Vista SP1, Quad 9300, 4gig ram.
