Guide: Solving Vista Error 13/14/driver stopped..

Knock on wood, Vista SP2 seems to have solved my crashing problem. Three days now with no crashes.

If it isn't showing up in Windows Update, you can download it from the Microsoft Website.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's just luck cause I went only.. .4 hours before it crashed...

And yes, I got updated drivers, no you don't have to reinstall them because if I did have a corrupt driver most of my other games wouldn't work either and guess what.. they do...

SP2 did help with my issues, but it didn't fix them. Now I just get the crash after finishing a TF.

That's a game bug.

32-bit Vista SP2 and the latest nVidia (185.85) seems to have stabilized my system now. I'm going on a solid six hours with no crashes since I deployed these.

I have tried all the ideas here - removing one of my monitors, removed a video card (SLI), swapped video cards, tried a different card, played with my ram - removed sticks, swapped sticks, different processor, software updates...nothing worked.

Until this week. I stopped playing my robot/dark mastermind and instantly stopped crashing. Was able to play for hours and hours and hours on an SS/INV brute and a seperate acct on the same computer. As soon as I dropped out the brute and switched back to the MM, I got the game crash notification.

Switched back to the brute and all is well. So for now, I just harvested all the infamy and IO's off the MM and gave them to some alts since it seems I can't use my MM anymore.

I changed my view to windows classic (ugly version) and it seems to have fixed the problem for me, i haven't had a crash in almost a week. I think this is a blanket error though so what works for one person may not work for another.

I have to agree with Mikamir. It's an OpenGL problem after all. (Why don't they just use DirectX????) Anyhow, I appear to have inadvertantly lied. I got four good days out of Vista SP2 combined with nVidia 185.85. It's started crashing again.

They used OpenGL because it was cross platform and quite popular at the time of development.

I get this error on an ATI card. Running windowed seems to have counteracted it.

I'm getting this problem like crazy on windows 7.... Gahh!! Anyone else? Or anyone find a fix for it?

FYI, I'm getting rock-solid performance under Windows 7 x64 RC (build 7100) with the 181.71 driver for W7 beta, which is what the updater recommended. Dell XPS M1530 with a GeForce 9600M GT. Based on various things, you may want to stick to drivers that meet WDDM 1.1.

186.03 is now out for W7 x64, but I've been holding off since there are various reports of weirdness, and frankly the previous one is working pretty well.

The 186.03 page mentions that it implements OpenGL 3.0 and significant PhysX changes... it's not surprising that there are some issues. (What version of OpenGL is CoH written to anyway?)

Hi, I just recently started playing CoX, almost three months now and everything was working fine. About a week ago, my game started to crash with the Driver OpenGL business Error 13 (Or 14, I'll be able to confirm later because, ha, I know I'm going to start crashing.) I have no idea what is causing it, I'd like to know. I've been scanning this thread and yes, there seems to be a fix but this information is apparently nearly a year old. I'm not tech smart. Is there anyway somebody could either PM or reply to how I could maybe fix it? If there is an updated fix, or am I just plain out of luck? I have tried to update, delete, install and reinstall my drivers, still no luck. If I am saying stuff thats already been said, my apologies. :X.

Editting, its Error 14

The problems have started coming back for me, now the stable character I'd been using is now starting to crash.

I don't know who's fault it is (nvidia or paragon), but it's surely enough to make me give the game up after all these years. I didn't spend 3 grand on a beefy pc to play a game that crashes just because the moon is in jupiter when pan jumps over his broomstick on a tuesday.

Well, the problems started long before any changes that might have been coded into 186.18. I'm getting the Vista 32-bit version installed in the hope that if the issues I'm experiencing are related to PhysX processing, they'll go away this time.

Probably not. But it keeps me off the street.

Just a note that while on the earliest win7 beta driver, on win7 beta, I was not getting this bug.... it has returned to me on win7 RC1 (with all current updates) under 186.18. Same rig as previous that I had gotten fully stable in vista with after SP2. However I see that I had not come up past the 185's on vista, and that the 186's have known issues, so a driver swap is definitely in order. (Yes, I'm planning to start working backwards on drivers, etc etc, but wanted to post.)

Edited to add: 185 driver solved it.
