Do they actually believe that people are going to sign up just so they can spend months dinking around with the costume creator?

[/ QUOTE ]

I know many, MANY people who still are "dinking around" with the costume creator after several years, and who were mainly attracted to the game because of it.

[/ QUOTE ]

*raises hand*

... and I'm actually glad to get more free costume tokens on some characters... some really burn through them. >.> Especially when new pieces come in that fit an idea better.

As far as the video... they're getting better. It still felt a little strained at points (ok, very strained or stilted at points,) but I do like the whole 'I know, but I have to wait 'til she logs in!" bit. Points for the idea though.

I'm on the fence on this one. On one side I think it was cheesy/funny/slightly informative. On the other side I think how dorky it makes me feel (after listening to the sniviling skinny hero--he needs to grow a pair).

Yeah, we can't change costumes like that.....

[/ QUOTE ]

On my roleplay characters, I use an emote macro to switch between costumes.

/macro Uniform "cc 1$$em listenpoliceband"

<ul type="square"> - Uniform can be listed as anything: Civvies, Pwnz, Ninja, etc.

- The cc # is the slot itself. Cc 0 is the first costume slot, cc 1 is the 2nd, etc.

- And the emote can be any standard or unlocked. Full list in Mantid's Emote Guide.[/list]---

Edit/addition: There is a power change as well. Thank you, Nimrod.

/macro Civvies "cc 1$$powexec_name Nullify Pain"

[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks... even though I'm well aware of using binds/macros such as these.
Been using similar ones myself for years.

But the problem with most of these combinations is that the particular emotes or powers used very rarely can be "timed" well with the actual change. Also as should seem obvious if you want to rely on using a power's animation for this you have to have that power available to use.

No what I'm talking about are fully dedicated emote animations that not only would be timed perfectly because they would be embedded as part of the /cc command itself but like the flight pose emotes would actually be specifically made to go with costume changes, not just be random emotes that kind-of, sort-of work for the purpose like your /em listenpoliceband.

My feeling is that if the Devs could get around to giving us flight pose emotes that eventually, sooner or later, they could give us purpose-made costume change emotes as well some day.

I enjoyed it, although it was more like a teaser video than informative. I did get a chuckle about the vahzilok, though.

As a player, here's the problem with that video... the two characters formed a leveling pact.. which means they were both level 5 or lower. You don't get your second costume until level 20 or you turn in Halloween salvage..

City Official hero says he wants to fight in Cimerora.. but his player only fights Vahz. If he's high enough to fight in Cimerora, he can't still be fighting Vahz (unless he's constantly using Oroborous or exemping) OR form a leveling pact.

Explaining the benefits of day jobs was interesting, but that means that both players created these characters leveled them up to 5 (or less) then logged them off for 21 days.. Seriously.. who here has made a new character and immediately let it collect dust? (You can hit level 5 in no time.)

I normally enjoy the preview/overview videos, but that one was totally 'meh'. The best one was introducing the Villain Epics

*Guilty*

Without logging in to check, I probably have 8 characters that are level 1-5 and are either still in, or just out, of the tutorials.
I get an idea on a theme, make the character, then "back-burner" them until I get the urge to play them.

I actually went through all of my characters last night, to move the "inactives" to day job locations. One character (level 2) was last logged in 216 days ago.

As do I! I've even been known to make a character just to go with a good costume that I've seen on the streets or found in the character creator. So don't get me wrong, I really like the character creator and the customizable costumes.

I just wonder why every article has to focus on the costume creator. This game has a lot of other great things too. Why aren't the devs or marketing or whomever talking about all the other great things too???

But if I were someone who didn't know anything about this game and I was just reading those articles and interviews, I'd be saying; "Yeah, ok. Customizible costumes, I get it. Now what about the game? Is there an actual game, or is it just making costumes?"

This is my first MMO. Is the game play here in CoH/V really that shabby in comparison to other MMOs? Is that why the devs refuse to talk about it?

I've got to chime in with the 'lame' faction here... If I wasn't already playing the game, that vid would have left me nothing but confused and decidedly *not* motivated to give the game a try. I13 is hard enough to get people motivated about because (other than the PvP revamp) it's such a 'lite' issue... (A little QoL, a little plot, some shiny bits.) But even so, Dark_Respite's vid managed to sex it up.

Very Tron:

- My user wants to go after the MCP
- So does mine!

Anyhow, more than what I was expecting form an official video actually, especially with the additional voice talent.

But yeah, the 4th wall... not much of an RPer these days, but all the User talk made me

But still, a nice video that casually or directly mentioned all the new features, so yay? Needed a better opening though, IMO.

I miss the good old days of CGI from the COV promo vids.

Now THAT made me want to play the game.

Also, if you really want to attract people, I suggest getting City Vault off the ground so folks can showcase their toons and backstories etc. I'd think that people would be more sold on the costume aspect by seeing the creativity of the player base than by a single video with a few toons.

I love the devs and their work on this game but I'm very underwhelmed by the marketing efforts of NCSoft. What are they truly doing to promote COX?

I always feel like the game is getting great stuff added(ok Issue 13 didn't overwhelm me, but still...) and then people aren't really hearing about it or not enough to push up subscription numbers to any meaningful degree. Its a really half-hearted marketing effort from the outside looking in.

I go to website after website and see Eve Online and they are growing their subscribers and expanding their server infrastructure and people keep hearing about it.

A new COX issue hits and it maybe gets a blurb or 2 on a dedicated MMO site and then...fizzle...

Thanks to the costume save/load feature, I've created many characters that exist only as saved costumes. It really is one of the most fun things about the game.

Can't wait until Mission Architect so I can bring some of them to life in the game. Also, going through a mission alongside your alts FTW. And at last I can make my Heroes fight my Villains. So cool!

Not necessarily... seems the latest job posting for NCNC is for an "Animator," among whose other job qualifications include:

* Solid familiarity with the animation tools of a major 3D package (Maya, Max, XSI)
* Excellent 3D animation skills as demonstrated by your demo reel

So it's entirely possible that they're looking at getting someone in there to do the CG thing and start doing videos like the CoV trailers.

And damn, I wish I knew either of those programs well enough to try for this myself.

From what I've seen of your videos Samauraiko you could barf on the keyboard and make a better video than the person that made that I13 video.

It's not a guaranteed thing that this is for the trailers - it may be something the devs actually use, and I am not qualified in any way, shape, or form for game development (other than storyline writing). It's only a guess on my part that the Animator position is for video work.

But I do appreciate the votes of confidence...

EDIT: Also, I know that the guy who did the I-13 trailer has done some of their others, such as the I-11 and I-12 trailers, both of which I thought were quite good. Not everyone bats a thousand...

Well compared to the other MMOs ive played

Psoitives

Gameplay is streamlined and smooth. Relativiely bug free (we have bugs, but not to the same degree as other MMOs ive played). Lots of story. Cool temp powers. Costume design. Easy learning curve. Ability to play for only 20 mins a day and still do somethign. Travel powers. Bases. Massive selction of powersets. Powers are useful 1 - 50 (this is a biggy for me, so may games have entry level powers that you never use after level 20 or so. I know I still use X-Ray beam and radiant Aura on my 50). Adjustable difficulty. Enhacements not equipment (super gear doesnt change your look)

Negatives

Lite gameplay means game can be made too easy by skilled players. Limited amounts to do at 50 to advance your character (game is focused at 1-50, not 50). PvP is tacked on and feels that way. Missions that send you on tours of the city (Origns of power and cape mission for heroes for example). Empty zones blue side, not enough zones red side. AT envy between red and blue. Redside "not evil" enough as your just a merc 90% of the time (I also dont like the domination of Arachnos)

My 2 cents Peregrine, take as you will
