Guide to Issue 13 Base Costs / Requirements

Do we know if rent costs are staying the same? That would give me pause before upgrading some of my bases' plots. No need to upgrade the size if a possible SG slowdown will lock me out of my base or make me tear it all back out to afford it again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Rent is now apparently based on the number of storage items (maybe some other items too?). It's undoubtedly a LOT lower than it is on Live. We were never given info on how rent had changed (or even that it changed at all), but some people were able to work out that it was based on the number of storage items they had.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait, what???? Are you telling me that my tiny SG is going to see its rent go through the roof because we have 18 storage items???
[/ QUOTE ]
It's like 100 per storage item... some of the other crafted items are like 200 or 300 each.
Unless you pay zero rent now, the reduction in rent is drastic...and no longer based on plot size.

Basic Telepad
Clockwork Winder, Temporal Sands, Simple Chemical, Psionic Manifestation
Alchemical Silver, Symbol, Inert Gas, Black Blood of the Earth
Ruby, Destiny, Silver, Hamidon Goo

To craft a basic teleporter??? You must be joking.

Okay, breathing easier now. We have a 12x12 base with a rent of 43k. Since some rents are in the hundreds of thousands at the moment, I was seeing my SG's life pass before my eyes.

If it's free now, is it free in i13?

Not if you have storage (and possibly certain other types of) items, but in no case should rent costs ever be prohibitive to any group.

It should be clarified that each line is it's own recipe.
Thus, you can use:
Clockwork Winder, Temporal Sands, Simple Chemical, Psionic Manifestation
---OR---
Alchemical Silver, Symbol, Inert Gas, Black Blood of the Earth
---OR---
Ruby, Destiny, Silver, Hamidon Goo
The way its posted makes it seem like it takes all that type of salvage to craft a Teleport. Some reformatting is in order to ease the confusion:
For example:
Basic ARCANE Telepad
Recipe A: Clockwork Winder, Temporal Sands, Simple Chemical, Psionic Manifestation
Recipe B: Alchemical Silver, Symbol, Inert Gas, Black Blood of the Earth
Recipe C: Ruby, Destiny, Silver, Hamidon Goo
So you can choose from three recipies to craft a Teleport. You do not have to use the one with the HamiGoo.
Korith, want me to go back and add a 1,2,3 to each? I dont want to but I can.
Ill hopefully still be able to edit when I get home.
Base Salvage Conversion can be done at any Invention Table....one click at a time.
So for those of you who have 2500 base salvage waiting...have fun. 2500 clicks later.

Nah, just put a general note at the start of the recipe list to the effecto of "Each item has three recipes, each corresponding to it's own level range of invention salvage."
Sounds like Fabricator fun to me

thanks for the post..i was wondering how low the costs went down. if their this low when it comes to live.....i might have to tear down.
40 50s so far.
if you dont like me....i dont really care.

Yeah. I look at those numbers and I start counting my cost recovery in the millions pretty quickly.
And I'm talking about a 12-ish million prestige SG.

Where does this conversion take place? Is it automagic or do you go to the SG registrar or someone? If automagic, what happens to the Base Salvage in the Bins versus carried? What happens to Event salvage in the Bins? Are they counted against the new cap of 30? What about stored components in storage?
[/ QUOTE ]
Can of worms, officially opened. Conversion is via one brain storm idea at a time as Plasma said. Base salvage in bins stays in bins until converted. Invention salvage counts against the 30 cap.

NOTE:
To recoup Base plot costs, you can simply buy the same plot. I will add that to the top.
[/ QUOTE ]
Does that include room costs? I'm suspecting the answer is 'no', but I'd like that clarified, please. Truthfully I was wanting to expand the Warren anyway...and recovering the room costs (since the price we paid for the Secure Teleport Bay we presently have, versus the new one) was what prompted me wanting to create a whole new teleport bay...without losing our present, much cheaper on salvage costs at least, teleporters.
Sucks still to have to redo our teleport chamber/meeting room/commons area, but them may be the breaks...

That could be a problem to a low-activity supergroup. My friends make a lot of themed groups, they'll form a team and a SG, make a base, play for a month, then only get on those characters once in a while. The 0 rent option was great for them.
Imagine logging onto a character and finding that rent is overdue, power is off but the base isn't locked; and it hasn't been 45 days since the leader was last on. You now owe a tiny amount of rent, but can't pay it. You might even find this out after using a base porter to bail from some really annoying zone like Perez or a PVP zone.
anyone know what the AES costs now??

I'm the only player in most of my supergroups. My bases sit on the smallest plot and are full of storage facilities. On live right now I pay no rent. It sounds like in i13 I'll pay 1,800 rent, and more if I upgrade the plot size. Is that right?
Scrap
Rent is once again done so stupid.
You dont pay rent on your apartment based on the number of bookshelves you have.
And why must we rent. IRL some people Own their homes and businesses instead of lease or rent. Why not an out right purchase price to upgrade from basic plot and no rent.
This just screwed single person/couples super groups.
Just for the record we already pay rent its that $15/month subscription fee. But thats real easy to fix.
Here's an idea; don't touch the bases for i13. Listen to your player base then fix the bases for i14.
Sorry to say this, but after reading everything, this just made base building a lot more complicated and cost prohibitive. Sure you save on the prestige for room/plot costs but the i/o salvage crafting costs are a bit high. Granted there are multiple recipes for each item (that in itself is very confusing), but having rare i/o salvage for basic items such as TP pads is too much. I can understand using the rare i/o salvage for tier 3 items or even some of the tier 2 items, but tier 1 items should not have to cost rare i/o salvage.
If I may make a suggestion:
Devs, please do a focus group with some of the main base builders in this forum (both PvE and PvP) and really find out what the players want out of the bases. Leave the bases alone for i13, even i14 if need be, and really do a revamp of the base system.
Edit: deleted comments on base rent after reading Plasma's post on new rent costs- Az

I'm by no means defending this at all but... I point out
If you have a lot of base salvage, you can make a lot of rare IO salvage (but it's random on what you get). Such is life under conversion.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.
