Discussion: Purchasable Character Respecs
I just look foward to the income to the game. More money means more stuff. I doubt I buy one as I rarely use all my vet respecs, but it is still goot. I think 5$ would have been a better price, but what ever.

Just a quick follow up:
We have no plans of getting rid of freespecs. Each Issue that brings with it major power changes (which is pretty much every single one, eh?) will bring a freespec with it.
We have no plans of getting rid of the respec trials.
We have no plans of getting rid of the dropped Respec Recipes.
We have no plans of getting rid of the Veteran Respecs that your account earns.
This is simply another way to get a Respec onto your character.

Good to know. This info probably should have been included in the original announcement though. I'd suggest Lighthouse edit it to add this in.

I think the part that I am most disappointed in is the $9.99 price for one respec. I have without a qualm used the character move option. Rename I've used a couple of times, also without really blinking at the price because I know that I'll do that exactly once on that character. Purchasable slots I cheered for but for some reason spending $10 for a single respec I balk at. If it were more like purchasing slots where I could get a set I could be distribute at will I would be MUCH happier with it.
Overall I really doubt that I'll have a use for this service. Except for the first couple of characters I ever made I have never exhausted my existing in-game respec options. Still I would like this better if it came as a package and cost me about $5 / respec - or perhaps it could be served with pie and a pony!!

I got yer pony right here!
<insert emote of me pointing to the pony>
Impressive, ain't he?
[ QUOTE ]
Hmm... don't think I'll ever have any use for it. But yay for more options.
[/ QUOTE ]
My thoughts exactly.
But there will be people complaining. Somehow, the fact that there are now more options will be interpreted/spun as a negative. Just wait.
EDIT: Yup didn't take long at all... next post... sigh:

Disappointing.. Another step towards CoX developing a "Cash Shop" that developes more have and have nots.
Very disappointing to say the least.

As of right now I own 459M Infamy, after market fees, worth of Respec Recipes. I will let you know how much these are worth in two weeks.
I like this move a lot. However, it butchered my schemes.

Heheh. Maybe they noticed your stash!
THE DEVS ARE OUT TO GET THE EBIL MARKETEERS!
[/ QUOTE ]
Eeeh I wouldn't go that far Tripp, but one of my wishes always was that there would be events, precipipated by the Developers, that would affect the markets.
For example, crashes due to sudden availability of items, either ingame or out, or to events. Maybe an increase in some of the Pool C drops lamented by many as being too rare.
Anything that shakes me, as an occasional marketeer, out of my comfort bubble is a good thing.
Remember folks:
Everything ingame is property of NCSoft and you are renting it from them. No room to complain if ingame items lose or gain worth at any point, it's their items.

Heheh. I'm an amateur Ebil Marketeer, so actually I just envy Smurphy's treasure trove. But I couldn't resist throwing a marshmallow at the most infamous of us all.

Interestingly, in a move of stunning foresight, I dumped almost $200,000,000 in respec recipes yesterday.

Is buying levels, or badges next?
[/ QUOTE ]
Already have purchasable badges.
Good thing us veterans have about a half a dozen of these respecs, you newer players will just have to make do.
Don't mess with Texas!

It would probably be a good idea to go ahead and edit it in there, yes, but anyone who seriously thought this announcement meant they'd be dropping the other ways to get respecs (especially Vet Rewards, trials, and recipes) was just being silly.

Nice move NC^2.
Will this mean freespecs on test that were previously a big fat NO WAI SIR!
More options = great!
Not sure I'll ever use it, but knowing it's there is the bees knees.
10$, yeah pricey IMO, 6.99 seems a fair price point.

I'm relieved to hear this, thanks for letting us know.
I have to say that I disagree with the price. I would say that $4.99 would be an appropriate price, but a full $10 is too much for a simple respec. If this is not an automated system where someone manually has to flip a switch or something that's different, but you should be able to have this automated, and with a change that doesn't need to be touched... well... it just feels too expensive to justify the price. If you gave the ability to 'recycle' a character and let us start a new character with all the exp and inf of the old one, that might be worth it.

Thats not a bad idea; and Id bet a sliding scale would work very well.
As an example, BaB might cost 19.99 to insult your drapes; maybe Ex would be 14.99 to come over and drink your Jaegermeister; Sister Psyche 24.99 to 'fix' your mother in law's head, and perhaps for 49.99 Posi gets Statesman to go to your house and let you old timers kick him in the nuts...
I can safely say I will never utilize this feature.

O rly?
Someone starts charging ($10, no less), if you have any wits about you at all you are going to think the supply is going to be decreased in order for people to want to buy it in the first place. (At $10, no less.)
I'm not shocked that the veterans are happy in this thread after being pissy in the thread about the jetpacks with cards. Would be nice if people could look at the overall picture and not just what would benefit themselves.
<QR>
Wow, that's pretty cool. I doubt I'll ever use it, since I tend to be meticulous about build planning, but it is another option, between respec badges, respec trials, respec recipes and freespecs.
QR
I think the addition of the feature is nice but since players have the ability to obtain the respec in-game, I find $10 a bit excessive.
$5-7 is more reasonable IMO. I would rather use my "play" money then my hard ear...well, I am at work writing this post...so not really "hard earned" just earned money.

If you have any wits about you at all, you'd realize what a horrible business decision it would be to suddenly take away things that have existed for years in the game just because they decided to offer a monetary way to obtain them. The loss of respect and subscriber dollars over something that greedy would be huge.

Remember, there are 3 earnable respecs through trials (villains get a 4th through the Patron Arc).
There is 1 earned respec per year from Vet Rewards.
You can get a dropped Respec Recipe or buy one with in-game 'money' (i.e. influence/infamy) at the market. Heroside, a respec is going for at this moment 20 million inf. I imagine that with the purchasable respecs providing more supply v. the demand; that the cost of in-game respec drops will go down.
And for the past three years, we've received *at least* 3 freespecs per year.
See this guide to respecs.
