...Why did this warrant a game announcement? There's no new information in this post. It just reads like somebody wrote the company a new vision statement and thought all the players wouldn't notice that it was nothing but a bunch of buzzwords. Please post real news next time.

Its too bad we don't have the most COMMUNICATIVE dev team. ::still waiting for response from a dev in the TF/SF thread over there ---->::

Castle, BaB, and LH are very consistent about addressing issues that are actually their Departments.
...Reward changes however and Quality Assurance... I think we all know who's department that is, and that he won't discuss the big issues with us b/c we all con "Grey 2 him"

I'd agree with BaB and Castle, however even LH is staying away from that thread with a 10 foot pole because the last time he posted in it, he was proven wrong by about 100 people with correct tf information.
I'm pretty sure if I went to one of these gaming conventions I'd con pink to Posi. I have a lot of questions and I'd stand in line for HOURS for the chance to ask them in person.
Thanks, NC Soft, for closing my favorite game ever without warning and with plenty of life still left in it, and thus relieving me of the burden of EVER wanting to buy, try or even hear about another game from your company. Will my decision make a dent, or persuade them in anyway, shape or form? Nope, obviously not. Don't care. NC Soft is dead to me. ~ PsyFox

We acquired 100 percent of the IP recently, so we have some major plans for City of Heroes for the future. Again, for this year were going to be doing regular updates, but theres a lot of exciting stuff going on around City of Heroes, not for this year in terms of new releases, but certainly in the next couple of years.
[/ QUOTE ]
Does this mean some kind of third game is coming? He talks about new releases besides new updates. Just wondering if anyone else had any info on that. CoX2? If they are making CoX2 they need to make sure to get all the input before hand and get it right the first.....second time around, and all characters should be somewhat transferable.
i am seeing a lot of smoke and mirrors, and very little info on what the future really holds.
"we cant say anything at all, but it will be great WHEN it arrives" doesn't really get me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. it makes me feel like we are dealing with a bunch of politicians.

I can't help but agree. We were given the same line in SWG before they tore the guts out of it and rebooted it as World of Jedicraft.
I'm not saying change is bad, nor that they have anything similar in mind, but "we can't tell you but it'll be groovy" doesn't exactly fill me with warm feelings of trust and devotion.
I don't know about you all, but just the use of the word "Groovy" has me nervous. What is this the 60's?

I have been playing since day one; April 28, 2004, to be exact. I never knew back then that the game would progress to what it is today, and I am very happy...and keep gettting amazed and surprized. Am I thrilled with everything that has been added? No, not everything, but 90% of the time I am. (The Greek chest details, for one. I don't PvP eiither.) My point is, there is something for everyone. I happen to like the announcements from the devs with little 'hints of things to come'. Only time tell if they do what they hint at. So far, so good AFAIAC. I am here to have fun. (I tried WoW for about a month and that was just not for me.) When the Devs present 'extra' packs for $9.99 I buy them if I like them. Everyone has different expectations/wants for this game. Some will be happy, some will be dissapoined, others even angry. I read these forums all the time and even try to help . I pay my $14.99+ per month (for more than one account) like everyone else. My point of all this is, if this game ever stops being fun, I will stop playing. I won't get angry, name-call, or flame anyone. I look forward to seeing what's around the bend in game content. When it becomes a dead end I will cease to fork over my money. We have come a long way from the 'gingerbread man' death pose, the cows that would 'moo' when shot, and Perez street-sweeping was the place to be. I might not love every aspect of this game, but the enjoyment I have had and the wonderful friends I have made can't be measured in dollars. I'd LOVE to see the level raised from 50 to 60. I'd LOVE to see new zones and mission maps. I'd LOVE to see new power sets. Perhaps those will come to pass....I, for one will stick around and see if they do. In the mean time, I intend to play and have fun with good friends.

I second, third, and fourth this. I read EVERY post in this thread. I can NOT understand what you people are griping about. I too have played other MMOs. IMO none of them have the features CoX has. For instance, we have- hands down the BEST custom character creator in the MMO world. Not a single game can even come close to what Jay and the Devs have come up with. Customizable weapons? That's cherry! How can you beat that? Would we like to have more options? Sure. Mainly because there are so many people shelling out their $15 a month.
Free new content. This is incredible. The fact that we get new issues coming out regularly as free patches is awesome. Its always something new. It doesn't please everyone everytime, but you wont find anything that will. I too am pleased with the game 90% of the time. If I don't like something, I don't participate. I am not a PvPer at all. I did not go to the "wedding" and I did not buy the wedding pack. Everything they come out with is not for everyone.
The point is if you don't like something, its not a failure. Just don't spend your money on it. Leave it up to virtual Darwinism. If the Devs stop pleasing the clients, the clients leave. They dont' get the money, the game goes away. If they even continue with what they have, I will continue to give them my money, and so will THOUSANDS of others. Good job Devs. Keep it coming. I continue to play (daily) a game that I love, my kids love, and friends love. Its a good time, with good people. I look forward to each new thing that comes out.

As follow-up to this announcement - I am VERY curious as to the thoughts regarding the drastic change in direction of the Cryptic Studios announcement to develop Champions online MMORPG?! Even the screen shots have artwork DIRECTLY from City of Heroes! It is absolutely appalling to me that they would publish artwork, that is a blatant rip-off of CoH? I forget which magazine the article was in, PC Gamer maybe? But I was horrified as I read through the description - it's like they're re-inventing the CoH IP all over again?

Pay attention to this line: Free new content...The fact that we get new issues coming out regularly as free patches is awesome." Its always something new. I was shown that article from Game Informer, and I totally feel the same way. I think that Champions Online is stealing our "upgrades" in a way, like the whole movement customizations and their 1-up on the CoH/CoV character creator. Well, thats sorta my reason for griping to be honest, im afraid that our beloved game will not get its well deserved attention. Scared, really.
Oh if you have the chance, read the article from the latest GameInformer magizine, hopefully you'll sorta understand why so many gripes and rants and stuff.
Caves and cityscapes are pretty generic environments. I wouldn't get too worked up over it.
Interesting. I wonder if they plan to do things like charge 10 bucks for tiny little costume packs. If not, then it might be worth checking out when it's ready.

Nothing in this game is free- stop passing around this stupidly FLAWED AND WRONG meme. 15 bucks a months with updates at no extra charge (usually) does not equate to free. 15 bucks a month= NOT FREE.
That's all I got for that.

Sounds to me like Cryptic already has alot put into a new hero/villain game and noe that the Marvel MMO fell thru, they are gonna use it in SOME game. Enter champions. It's all about the character creation and level of uniqueness your characters can have for me...so I'll keep an eye on it....but I don't have my hopes to high.
As far as this "groovy" announcment, what a horrible PR guy. Who says things like groovy anyway? I have a feeling there are big plans for a CoX 2, which is good and bad. Good because they could get everything right this time, and bad because it means this game will suffer and the new one could end up sucking. Just keep your fingers crosses I suppose.
Also, this is a outtake of a response of a PT I sent Castle...

5. With some confusing statements lately about groovy futres and what not....will this year be similair to last year? Should we expect issue 12-14?
Magic 8 Ball says, "Reply Hazy; ask again later."

That struck me as odd, maybe I'm reading into it to much, but it seems like things are kinda up in the air right now. If not I think he would have responded with something like "yes, we will try to match last years content output, but it's not a garantee".
Sounds to me like they are trying to decide on the best way to respond to Cryptic's announcement. Since Cryptic claims to be putting in many things people here have been begging for since launch they may decide that a major overhaul on the engine to allow those same things in CoH/CoV rather than just adding the basic content issues to an older product might be a prudent move to make for long term customer rentention. With an actual competitor looming on the horizon they have some big decisions to make.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Basically, a new competitor has just appeared like some ultra supervillain that everyone thought long gone in a swanky underground base. Hazy replys should be the norm as NCSoft and the devs have to map out a strategy, assess resources and make decisions. These things take time.
I do think that a massive upgrade to combat the CO features being touted needs to be done though. CoH 2 should be on the roadmap.
It would also help to give us some clues for the coming year. Some incentives for continuing the subscription should be warranted.

Just to be clear, the original statement was only with Geoff's previous points about CoH in mind; not anything else. Brian saw that and wanted to comment on it.

You're reading too much into that. Castle is not normally allowed to make comments about the future developments about the game, since that information is strictly controlled by the marketing department. Question specifically related to future content are likely to be deflected by all of the red names in whatever matter they deem reasonably polite.
If you ask Castle something like "so, what do you think about Claws" he may or may not give you his unofficial opinion. But if you ask about his opinion about the moon base in Issue 12, he's not going to answer.
Not that there's going to be a moon base in Issue 12, but if there were going to be one, Castle couldn't comment on it.
In fact, Castle isn't always 100% certain what Issue the stuff he's working on will be in, which means he can't comment on that either. Sometimes, plans change, and commenting can get Castle into trouble if those plans change after he starts working on something.

I LOVE this game -- 42 month vet award (42 x 14 = GAH!) -- but am getting worn down by the endless, repetitive baddie killing and glowie clicking which is currently the means to just about every end. Complete taskforce - kill badies click glowie, complete missions - kill baddies click glowie, earn badges - kill baddies click glowie.
Maybe add mini-games or puzzles like other games have. Or how about object interactions to defeat archvillians. Combine salvage into a tool you need to disable a villian survailence camera. Or pop up a screen to unscramble a vault lock. You get the idea I think. I really want some more variety in accomplishing missions. Inventions was a nice step in that direction.
I don't know maybe things like this are beyond the capabilities of the current game engine and would require a brand new game engine (CoH 2 maybe).
I'm afraid I have to agree with you EF. Much as I hate to say it, this game has become a tad repetative. And I also, hope that the kind of content you mentioned is not beyond this game's engine.
I have 52 alts. So you have no idea how many times I've done Frostfire alone. I would kill for some mini-games, puzzles and/or object interaction.
I believe the Devs have heard the cry of the community. And I'm hoping that that shiny future we've been promised, is filled with goodies of that nature.
I mean under water missions and space settings are all very well and good. Not to mention going back in time... I've been here since the beginning, and I'll stick it out till the bitter end. But if it's always only gonna be kill-n-click, then it's sort of a case of SSDD.

If there is a CoX2, I'd like to see a change in how aggro works. If NPCs only aggroed line of sight, and the game played more like Metal Gear Solid, or Splinter Cell when in missions. It would be nice to be able to use tactics and stealth sometimes. Be able to complate missions in different ways, instead of just kill all...click glowie.
Great! Ready for Blasters to get an Arrow Manipulation secondary and to see some other new powersets and archetypes.
