The 2008 State of the Game
Thats good and all but what are the devs doing to eliminate the annoying "advertisment" emails and ingame tells about INF and Power Levels for sale...that was something I would have like to have seen addressed. Ignoring doesnt help beause they use randomly chosen names each time...but the base accounts used to generate those names should be traceable...I have sent numerous petitions on this as it has happened.
About all they can do about those is kill trial accounts. Or maybe limit your number of allowed emails per day. Either prospect doesn't seem very attractive.
Here's a good fix idea: Make sending emails a 3-mo veteran reward.
Or keep trial accounts from being able to send emails.
On alternate advancement:
In EverQuest, once you reached the level cap, you could continue to gain experience beyond the cap. If you did so, you would gain "alternate advancement points" or AA points. It took more time to level to an AA point than it did to gain the final experience level.
After gaining an AA point or points you could spend them on minor ability tweaks or modifications relevant to your class. A character could get a small boost to heals, or spell damage, or critical hit rate, or maximum health, health regen, mana, and so on. Some of the abilities cost more than one AA point and there were dozens of them total, many with tiers - you could buy some of them more than once, and the bonus stacked.
All in total, since it took a very long time to level in EverQuest (days or weeks) it was extremely unfeasible for a single character to obtain all or even most alternate advancement abilities. However, as the game became older, large numbers of AA levels became more prevalent and older characters became disgustingly more powerful than recent, well-geared characters of maximum level.
This system is awful, for numerous reasons - when CoX becomes a game of "whoever plays the most is the best" and not "whoever picks the right powers, slots them right, and plays them right is the best" is the day I find a new game to play.
I like IOs, because a relative noob like me (six months in) can have a 120 million infamy IO build if he or she plays the market right. I like it even better because it is not essential to playing the game well, and a character slotted with common IOs and SOs will be very functional in high end PvE and even PvP, although not exceptionally strong. This is not the case in many other games where alternate advancement and high gear tiers are essential to the game, and not having top tier equipment excludes you from over half of the game's content.
Again: If CoX becomes a game that is not casual friendly I will not play it. That is not because I am a casual player; it's because the developers will not be looking at their target market, and I cannot give game makers who do not put their customers first my money.
ok, it's been said before
and I'm gonna say it again
you guys (devs/now NCsoft) are great
thanks for making the best MMORPG out there stay the best and keep it on top
no one else does this much for free (besides monthly fees) for their playerbase, your business model SHOULD be the model everyone else follows after and aspires to, congrats (get the price down to around $10 US/a month and I'll declare you the sharpest MMORPG business model EVAR)
thanks again, and keep up the good work (and here's looking to a great year in 2008, the "new" team looks to be well on their way to fixing all those long standing bugs that got overlooked and at the same time, ripe to do all kinda crazy cool new stuff as well, and I say "more power to them")

I am so happy about the changes that have been made since NCSoft took over. I am really looking forward to the additions mentioned here, especially real numbers.
Thank you NCSoft.

To be more specific, advancement by what I mean is character skills. People are free to have a different opinion.

Including the Developers. The skill system was shot down long ago, and it is likely never to happen in this game. Can you donate your stuff to a non-RMT newbie when you leave?

its all worthless in they end, if they dont start making the game fun again, its been worthless for 5 expansions at least, time to focus on making the game fun guys!
Please define "fun" as I have had fun with the game since it launched.
My point is that there are aspects of the game that others call fun which you do not. If you could be more specific to your request, then maybe there is something the Developers can do to make it "fun" for you. When you make a vague request, how can the Developers answer it?
It seems as this post has alot of I wish this and thats. My suggestion as someone who works with software (non gaming) and hardware is to be specific in your requests/rants/feedback as much as possible. When you give specifics, then it is easier for a programmer to go in and look at the issue.

It's fun for me, and looks to be getting more fun. And judging by the comments in this thread, a LOT of others agree that they find it very fun, and are looking forward to the changes/tweaks/additions to come.
If it is not fun for you, and has been for 5 issues.... why are you still paying $$$ to play it??? That to me makes absolutely no sense.

Seriously, why are you paying for this then?
I have fun playing the game now. Every single day. Wether I am Farming, Power Leveling, playing with wierdos, getting killed in PvP, wasting hundreds of millions of Inf to try a new IO set build.
The things I think would make the game more fun would be to raise the agro cap alittle bit to like 25 or 30 foes. To give me a team size adjustemtn setting. To give us all a Invincable+ difficulty setting. To clean up the forums, and enforce the no flame rule.
All of the things I would like for the game.. Are wishes. This game fundamentally will always be fun. I love being anything I want, and I can be anything here in this game.

Speak for yourself. I joined CoH the day after i5 went Live, and it's only gotten better with every issue, since then. I *love* Oroboros, even though I'm such an altoholic that I have few characters in range to use it. I *love* Inventions. I *love* my Vet Rewards. I *loved* the Second Rikti War, and still love the RWZ (even though I have VERY few characters able to get into it).
Is it perfect? No. But, no game ever will be.

I am having plenty of fun. I am sorry if you are not. If you are not having fun, why are you spending real money on entertainment you don't like?

Another year of the same ol' same ol' it sounds like. Are we ever going to have a purpose to raiding such as IOP's and are the many bugs facing base development ever going to be adressed? The spirit signal's still do not work so other than grabbing inspi's and creating a temp power there is little reason to rez at your base vs. the hospital. Sorry if I demand more than just another x2 xp weekend and another v-day event, but as a faithful player I think many of the exisiting bugs should be first to be corrected since the utilization of the base is what distinguishes this game from several of it's mmorpg competitors.

Now FIX THE DANG BASES!!! It's been long enough that certain SG logos don't display on the SG logo items, and the dang Rez Circle/Reclaimator (BTW, the word is "Reclamator") STILL won't allow attachments! PLEASE fix this! We worked our fingers off to get that Healing badge to increase the rez circle's ability. To have the Robo-Surgery not attach is basically a broken promise.
There are SG bases?

[/ QUOTE ]I hear what you're saying Matt, and I agree wholeheartedly. ... Except I've been being very specific about wanting those issues with the base fixed for over a year now and still there has been absolutely, positively NO indication from the devs that they have any intention of fixing those problems. Then again, they haven't said that they won't fix them. But since they haven't fixed them, they didn't have to say that.

[/ QUOTE ] Cute. Truthfully, there are many, many reasons to go to a base like my SG's when you die. 1. Once you appear at 25% health, /bug the rez circle/reclamator. 2. Refill your insps at the bins or at the Autodoc/Tree of Wonders. 3. Go to the Empowerment Station and take a few powers to help you win that battle you just lost.
There are also reasons to use the base besides as a rez point. We have porters to every zone. We have a Pillar of Ice and Flame in the base. (It's a Control item, so look for it there.) We have an Invention Room with 2 worktables and a vault. We have a lot of Halloween salvage to let new toons get their 2nd costume slot immediately. It's a safe place to park your toon when you are going AFK for dinner so you don't auto-log.
I just want it to work the way it's supposed to! (Robo-surgery should attach to the Reclamator, and our SG Logo (and a few others) should appear on the banners, floorplates, podiums, etc.)

Yes, they are. Positron has already said that with the greatly expanded number of devs there will be specific attention focused on bases in the future.
Lighthouse also specifically said that this thread was about short term goals/changes in the game. Base lovin' is clearly not a short term goal, and therefore it wasn't included in the announcement.

...We can't dare add max level increase and content for 50-60! People would play through it really fast and we'd all be stuck saying "now what" (*lol*). It would break teh game and we'd be GONE TO THE AMERICANS!!!
[/ QUOTE ]Surely you jest ...
If upping the max levels would break the game it would have done so once people reached level 50. People play through the game already really fast from level 1 to 50, via PL's in Peregrine on Farm Teams, or dual-accounts. It hasn't broken yet!

[/ QUOTE ]While at one time I may have concidered Final Fantasy XI a fun game, it now has become one of the most boringest games ever since I have been playing CoH/CoV.
Yet, they do have one interesting feature this game doesn't have, and that is aggro'd mobs chasing you practically across the entire zone, and specific mobs linking along the way, i.e., goblins linking other goblins it happens to come close enough to while chasing you.
Another feature of FFXI that would work extremely well in this game is the Hate system which ties in with the aggro. When a mob is chasing you the hate wears off and the mob stops and returns to its origional area. Sometimes this hate can be short, or long depending on the circumstances in which the hate was generated, such as where passing by a mob would generate low hate versus where actually engaging a mob would generate a greater hate.
