Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that we knew they were going to up the cap from 40 to 50 very early on. I kinda recall hearing about that back before I-1.

[/ QUOTE ]

Technically, I don't think the level cap was ever "raised." Levels 40-50 always existed "on paper" but just weren't finished in time for release. The intention was always for the game to have 50 levels, as I understand it. In fact, I'm pretty certain everyone knew that the very first expansion was going to be levels 40-50 for precisely that reason: it was always intended to be part of the game.

However, the design of the ultrarares suggests that they are operating on the assumption that level 50 is and will always be the "top of the game."

Anything is possible, but I think there isn't even a hint of work or thought going into a level 51.

[/ QUOTE ]

Original plan had 41-50 being i2 or even i3 - but that was because they expected people to go alt-crazy. It became i1 since they had a lot of people zoom through on one character.

Statements like "our plan is to release x new issues in '08".

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I had this question last night.

If any red names are still reading this, is the plan to still stick with three issues this year? Or will we see fewer formal "Issues" and more "in-betweeners"?

Things are looking good so far, but it would be nice to know the general release plan for 2008 for the Issue Roadmap.

[/ QUOTE ]

There's definitely more coming in 2008! But, as we started off saying, we're not quite ready to reveal those larger initiatives. So, for now, we stuck with highlighting what is coming in the shorter term.

The smoothing of the xp tables is what I'm looking forward to the most. Some people have said the 30s are the trouble, but the thing to consider this board is that the people here need to be subscribed to the game. I'm thinking that droves of players were driven off by the current "sticking points" on the experience tables and this has the potential to pull them back. That said, I think the real trouble is in the whole 12-32 range.

However, the devs have access to the actual data that tells them where the sticking points are better than I can predict from my own observations.

I really don't see why people find it slow to level. Lady Grey task force earlier today, went from level 42 to 43 in 2 hours and a half (10 or 11 bars of XP). And that TF works for anyone 35+, even if the contact says otherwise. One level in under 3 hours sounds pretty good to me.

I have only been playing for about a year now and have yet to hit lvl 50 on any of my characters... I have a couple 41's and am driving my brute towards 50 atm (lvl 43 now). But yeah the grind drove me away and I quit for 6 months and played other MMO's... It could just be my builds were gimped due to inexperience or what have you, but either way I got tired of trying to level and dying ALOT unless I found a team... so yeah, I'm hyped on the smoothing of levelling.

actually, getting certain badges and bonuses are like alternate advancement in a way. you can get extra slots of salvage storage or a once every 30 minute power or something like that, which is the same kind of thing alternate advancements give.

[/ QUOTE ]That still isn't advancing the character to me, that is more like new gear.

[/ QUOTE ]
That's the thing you're not understanding. In most MMOs, Gear is Character Advancement.

This is true for any MMO that has gear-granted stat boosts, and becomes even more true when that gear is level-gated and/or bind-on equip. Just because you personally don't find this method of character advancement compelling doesn't mean it isn't character advancement, and it certainly doesn't mean that it isn't compelling.

[/ QUOTE ]What you don't understand. Yes, in most mmorpgs gear is advancement. Now, from my 32 years of playing rpgs, to me character advancement means skills/abilities of the character not the gear. Be that as it may, I am just giving my point of view which I will say again. I would like to see character advancement either in levels great than level 50 or another AA scheme. To be more specific, advancement by what I mean is character skills. People are free to have a different opinion.

Real Numbers will be awsome, finally something to help all the noobs with crippled builds finally to pick powers worthwhile and know what to enhance.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry, but I find that offensive.

Some players are not min/maxers. Some enjoy the game in their own way and don't care whether or not their character has been built to extreme efficiency.

When I pick a power, I'm not thinking of the numbers, I'm thinking "Hey, that sounds fun." I couldn't care less if the power I pick "cripples" my character.

[/ QUOTE ]
Then you are not who he was talking about. He is describing players who are in fact new to the game. Were they given any tangible information about the powers they are given to choose from, they would probably make good decisions, or at least be somewhat effective in combat. But without the numbers, and only because of the lack of numbers, they are completely ineffective, and probably think the game, or at least that particular AT or powerset combo, sucks. What he is saying has nothing to do with choosing powers for concept purposes, I assure you.

The one thing I want to know, now that Statesman is gone, is are there any plans for character advancement (i.e. more levels or Alternate advancement) for level 50 characters?

[/ QUOTE ]

More levels = No.
Alternate advancement = IO sets.

[/ QUOTE ]I don't consider IO sets as AA. It isn't good enough for me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Adding carefully considered and selected IO sets makes your character stronger. Making your character stronger = character advancement.

Just because you don't find it "good enough" is irrelevant to the fact that finding, crafting, and slotting IO sets is indeed character advancement.

The level cap isn't going to be raised. Deal with it.

if you take the time to read what I said, it was levels or Alternative Advancement. IOs are not AA to me, but other games have had AA mechanisms.

This is my opinion so people don't take it as some kind of personal lifestyle attack. I want to see options for character advancement beyond level 50 by some method but not the IOs as they stand today.

[/ QUOTE ]

So?

You sound like the house guest who sits down to dinner and asks where the "food" is. "Oh, well... This stuff you've served up isn't 'good enough' for me. I want food, but not this food! I don't consider what you've put on the table to be food."

So please do enlighten us. What, EXACTLY are you talking about when you mean "alternative advancement?" Be specific.

A good example (and I think this is what he means) is found in the MMO Dark Age of Camelot. When the game was released the level cap was (and still is) 50. However, as you participated in the war between the kingdoms you would gain Realm Points that would give you points to spend on new abilities (think our epic or patron powers). Later on they added artifacts to the game that you would get after earning experience doing new challenges. These are like IO sets but these were really game breaking. Finally they added another system that let you can favor with your kingdom's monarch and you could get points towards getting very basic skills in another type of class. These skills were noting to write home about though.

Was that what you were talking about?

One thing I think could be really helpful, at least for those of us who don't tend to document what powers and slots are taken at each new level, is a system that will show you exactly which powers you took at each level, and which slots you granted at each level. Hopefully nobody laughs toooo hard at that idea.

42-43 is actually a pretty bad example. Under the current experience system, the number of minions to defeat to advance to the next level stops at 40. So, once you reach 40, you're "over the hump" in terms of advancement decelleration rate.

I expect that the smoothing of the experience curve will redirect that slack towards the lower levels. (It'll probably keep your existing xp points earned to be fair.)

I had a bug show up on my character I took to 50 that was nice but bizarre and I've heard no one else mention it. From level 25 most of my contacts offered me their non story arc missions twice. Thie means I never ran out of missions to do on that character and always could find one. Nice bug but most people don't have that bonus.

I'm very excited about the new additions to the game for 2008.

Please be sure that one of the changes is to get rid of the four-second Travel Power Suppression nerf that follows the initiation - but not the resolution - of all attacks.

Besides being an indefensible nerf with a jarring negative impact on the flow and indeed the very concept of a game about super-powered characters, the four-second lag is a tremendous advantage to Stalkers and any other AT with a long-animation melee attack.

With the long-overdue rescindment of this nerf - which was poorly conceived and unilaterally implemented without regard for player input - the "mobility advantage" will be restored to all ATs equally, which in the final analysis is the only way to "balance" anything.

Thank you,

Dasher

News for you, my friend: Travel Suppression was requested by players, as a replacement for what used to be: a fairly large -Accuracy debuff, for as long as the travel toggle was active.

Don't try to call it something "implemented without regard for player input", because it was implemented as the result of player input. And quite frankly, given your forum registration date ... you should be perfectly aware of this fact. (One of the few cases where I'll even pay attention to a Reg Date ...)

Ok, Lighthouse, that all sounds cool and I am looking forward to it all. The xp smoothing sounds cool. I'm really looking forward to City Vault so I can show some friends that don't play CoX what my toons look like and such. Maybe get some new players?

My biggest wish for 2008? Publically acknowlege that you have a base system in the game, admit that it is borked as hell, and start seriously fixing it. I know you all mentioned a bit about this, but let's see some timeline and what kinds of things you are planning to do. Sooner is better than later.

Otherwise, keep up the great work.

Some acknowledgement that Basesd exist and someone, somewhere is working on them would be very nice.

Well, it is not like we had much choices Between two evils...
Back then people were alot divided. At first only Fly was -acc penalized. Then devs penalized ALL travel powers to be "fair". It is where players protested and we ended having travel suppression even though players kept protesting for weeks after its implementation.

Gotta tell the whole story you know. Maybe we had a choice. But WOW, what choices! More like: "Do you prefer that we hang you or you prefer that we shoot you?". Great choices heh
