The 2008 State of the Game

And Urban areas would be so cool. I can see it kind of like the Urban area in "Edward Scissorhands"---very retro looking and cartoony.
[/ QUOTE ]
The word you're looking for here is Suburban.
[/ QUOTE ]
THANK YOU for explaining that. I was wondering what the heck the person meant by "real urban areas, not everyone lives in a city" ? After all, urban = city, they mean the same thing.

Getting this Real Numbers thingy is great for the players that wish to use it. But I hope it's not going to be used to tell me a character I created is "crippled."
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, I can promise you it will be used that way. You'll have to console yourself with the knowledge that people don't really need solid numbers to do that now. The numbers will just be cover for shmucks to do what they always do with or without cover, which is to be shmucks.
The numbers will help many players all by themselves make better decisions about what to take or not take. It will also cause many people to incorrectly judge the numbers, and make bad decisions based on numerical fallacies. But it probably won't be any worse than now, where many people are picking powers based on the fact they say that they do "extreme damage" and assume that must be the best power because of that.

Rather than simply and childishly shout out an in-game pet peeve I want fix that didn't appear in the announcement, I will bring up a germane and appropriate 'meta' issue which I was disappointed was not in the announcement, but still have hopes will appear 'someday'....
An NCSoft Game Pass. With a 'pay one price', we'd get access to all of NCSoft's online games (and for the free ones, access to the pay-for extras).
Also include with that a 'family account' for multiple accounts in the same game under the same 'pay one price' scheme.
As far as to what has been announced, I refer you all again to my treatise on the state of the game.

Oh yes! I could play TR again. And get our 6th account on the credit card.
There's been several comments made around how some of these new features could impact various things created by the community - websites, programs, etc. I've addressed how the various upcoming features could impact HeroStats on the HeroStats blog. Of course we'll have to wait and see what the actual implementation of these new features will look like, but I feel pretty safe saying that the demise of HeroStats is in no way imminent.

Ok... that's made me LOL twice now.
I'd love the idea of a sub-account that was tied to a main account and got the main's vet rewards. I probably have no personal use for it (the wifey is depressingly non-gamer), but I think you would see a net gain in subscribers and make some of the long-time vets very happy.
Now what I would love personally, is some kind of option(s) for more slots on a server...
Wait...
There is a convergence here somewhere... I just can quite put my finger on it...

Things I would love to see: (and have asked for, for 3 years now)
1. Teams LFM as an option in team building with an ability to name your team, so that if you were on this great team you could look for it daily.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, many keep asking for this, being able to flag your team as looking for more. One of the few improvements left for them to do that I'm really really hoping they can do.
Right now I find leading a team a chore. The way "having the star" on a team is passed around like a hot potato, I'm not the only one. This would make being a team leader 100 times easier.
Love all the things announced as well. I wonder if "real numbers" will finally cut down on the complaints about accuracy? I heard another great one the other day that someone insisted that RttC was debuffing their accuracy and not the enemy's.

Double XP Weekend and Server Hardware Improvements
... Double XP is always popular and usually drives our online numbers to record heights.

(winge mode on)
Sadly despite the "smoothing of the XP Curve" plans, the levelling grind is the one thing that drags me down and keeps me negative about this game, despite being a loyal, paying customer. Ironic that the Devs notice that the servers are full to busting during these weekends and that they don't comment on the almost graveyard like attendance for normal game play. Wierd phenomenom eh? In nearly four years I have only one L50 because I only have the physical realworld time to play for about 8 hours a week and am constantly grinding away at low level toons.
Surely it would be better to re-evaluate the entire XP/level system and keep people more interested for their money?
(winge mode off)
This gonna be a great year
I am happy with everything that is announced.

I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Improvements to MoG.
What's left?
I'm not sure I can live in a world where Geko is happy all the time

I can think of two, but I understand these may be asking for way too much:
1. Switch the order of Barrage and Energy Punch (why do they still force some Tanks to take an attack that is arguably worse than Brawl?).
2. Give Fiery Armor and Dark Armor in-set KB protection (even if it is gimmicky like Electric Armor's) and say they'll look into new ideas for the t-9s of these sets (which I would trust this Dev team to do, especially if they've decided to look into Moment of Glory). I just always thought it was kind of screwed up that the sets with the KB problem are also the ones with the rez t-9s.
Aside from that, the whole State of 2008 post was full of so much great stuff I about passed out... then they said they were looking to give my main a better t-9.
I am still dizzy, and EG looks to have lost it. This is very good news.
11 months of all-nighters, messy feeding sessions, bath fighting and realizing just how good my son's lungs work, and I am still convinced he is the crowning accomplishment in my life. What in the blue HFIL is wrong with me?

Statements like "our plan is to release x new issues in '08".
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I had this question last night.
If any red names are still reading this, is the plan to still stick with three issues this year? Or will we see fewer formal "Issues" and more "in-betweeners"?
Things are looking good so far, but it would be nice to know the general release plan for 2008 for the Issue Roadmap.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's definitely more coming in 2008! But, as we started off saying, we're not quite ready to reveal those larger initiatives. So, for now, we stuck with highlighting what is coming in the shorter term.

Whips and aquatics I can't wait.....
Oh that might just be my vision of the direction this game needs to go.
Along for the long hual just keep patching up the holes and I'll be happy. Ant sprawling meterpolis needs more zones or re-builds like faultline. Unless you have something planned for Boomtown it could use a make over. Man a co-op zone where heroes and villains could go would be a great place to merging the two like RWZ has done to high end.
Imagine Boomtown being co-op 10-20 lvl so you could meet some players on the other side. Play with them some maybe even challenge them to Bloody Bay when 15 then meet them again in RWZ for the final run to 50.
Long LIVE CoX some of us like both sides
to many of the folliwing
"soons!"
"coming down the roads"
" being worked on"
"maybe next week"
"not passing q.a"
although this is all great news...not one thing about bases....again!
why can you ctell us whats going on for the year but cant address players about whats going on with bases?.

OY VEY! Quit teasing us already and give with the details
As far as the Valentine's Day event having new content.... I am thinking that we follow up on the Winter Event happenings. Baby New Year allegedly grows from infant to old man in the space of one year's time. So maybe by February 14th he is approaching his early teen years... soooooo...
For the Valentine's Day Event we have to help Early Teen New Year get a date for his School Dance! Considering what an ugly little gnome he was as a baby.. this will likely be a task harder than all the TFs and trials combined.
For doing this... you gain the Mission Impossible badge and rental tuxedo/prom dress costume sets.
My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw
The only thing I want to know is how many firstborns were sacrificed to bring this much awesome to the physical realm.

Well, I was hoping the contents of the announcement would match the title.
Market hype and shinies != State of the Game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because, you know... adding things to the game that the players have been wanting for years has nothing to do with the state of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it doesn't, that's marketing hype and shinies.
The "state of the game" is "where the game has been and where is the game going" at the meta level.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh? So being able to actually see the numbers related to what your character is doing has nothing to do with the meta level of the game? Tracking character badges has nothing to do with the meta game?
Oh reflection, I suppose it doesn't. After all, when I'm walking around in RL I *always* see these annoying floating rectangles around my head telling me how fast I'm moving in feet per second.

Well, you have a point there. I sure wish Lighthouses announcement said something about plans for Valentines Day, or mentioned Issue 12. Or hell, while I'm wishing for pie-in-the-sky, maybe they might say something about leveling rates.

I don't know about anyone else but this is painfully obvious that the V-Day event will somehow be conected to the Marrige of Manticore and Sister Psyche.
According to a recent interview a wedding date hasn't even been set yet so they're only engaged, not married.
I think it'd be really cool if we got invited to their Wedding and some villain decided to crash the party. (Hero version)

Am I the only person that thinks its to easy to level already???
I think not. Then you say your taking out the bumps sigh part of the joy of getting through the 30s is knowing you got through the bump. Then you through out a double exp weekend on top of it.
Some of us enjoy the journey if you shorten it then what. Hey I now have 5 more 50s. I would rather see it take longer myself. That's why I constantly sking up just to enjoy all the content. I know that's what orry is for but it robs some of us the planning contact chains etc which makes this game so in depth.
I can't say I really want to lvl faster . Can this go red side???
Maybe that would attracted more players to red side. We all know "ways" to lvl quicker if we so choice so why make it even easier???
I know of players that once they 50d left so why would you want to make it easier.
Why do people want to level to get more powers. I think more temporaries in story arcs makes much more since. Stick some shiny news in the 30 content toward the end of arcs would make the time go by "funnier". Not cutting the needed exp. That's dumbing it down at a time when you are actually gaining powers which makes you feel powerful.
I know this is falling on deaf ears from reading the other posters but I thought it only fair to let you know there is other ways. I realize you said it already and to recant it would anger more than pleasing a few that actual enjoy the grind with the friends.
However with so many new weapons in game why not spread them though out some of the content. Then we could orry for the pieces we like. Then once you out level 1/2 the content you would get rewarded for going back in time to finish them arcs. Right now most are just to see what you missed. It'd be great if all those new tanker weapons were actaully available to all.
Kicks soap box to side. I'm starting to get some tells in game so will let all you PLers and whinners that it takes so long to get to where ever your going beat this up. But I hope Lighthouse or Ex sees this cause thou I'm not upset I do think there would have been better avenues to address "the grind".

More levels = No.
Alternate advancement = IO sets.

Real Numbers<snipped for brevity>

I don't suppose we get a timer for our click/buff powers with all that goodness too?
[/ QUOTE ]
Quite honestly, I'd rather this before other "real numbers" - as well as timers on the debuffs that enemies place on us. I know the other real numbers will be cool - but I think the buff/debuff power timer would be welcomed by a lot of the playerbase. I could be wrong (and I often am), but ...
