And finally, one of the things Silos mentions you may use the Pillar of Ice and Flame for is "...[to] fulfill whatever destiny you see laid out for yourself." This line is paired with a shot of a villain fighting Snakes, I believe in the "Rescue the Arachnos troops" mission in Mercy Island. Sounds like a reference to Project: DESTINY to me...

[/ QUOTE ]
I think that was just a roundabout way of saying "Villains can do this too."

All clues (as mentioned by Tal N) point to the coming of the Battalion.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but did you even ask if you could post NCSoft's copyrighted material on your YouTube channel? You do realize the video is copyrighted and your posting it without permission is likely a violation of that copyright. I can understand your exuberance, but at least try to have a modicum of respect for the rights holders. Jumpin Jiminy.

Ex Libris, LH, and others are certainly well aware of my activities, and I have certainly taken no personal credit for the videos themselves. I have not altered the videos in any way (besides resizing for YouTube), and all of the copyright info at the end of the videos is still represent, citing NCSoft and Cryptic as the rights holders.

I've always respected the right holders. I've never taken credit for their work, and always labeled these videos as "Official" works.

For someone not trying to not sound like a jerk, you're doing a bad job at it

If they or the company had any personal objections regarding my actions, I'm sure I would have certainly been advised to cease and desist by now, as I do not attempt to hide my actions in any such way. I've been advertising my YouTube channel in my sig for almost 2 months now.

I simply post the videos for ease of viewing for the community, and I'm sure they understand this.

Edit: additionally, these videos are promotional and not for profit, and freely available to the public. Rebroadcasting TV shows and movies, that are sold as videos on a for-profit basis, is illegal. Since these videos are only promotional, I and other CoX fans are essentially providing free advertisement

I love the script on this one. Silos's VA is also top notch here.

Doubtful. Mender Silos says he comes from a time over a million years in the future, and he speaks of the storm as something he witnessed. I've seen the speculation that he's mucking about in time in order to bring this about, but I doubt even then the timeline will be shortened from 1000000 years to 4 months. Unless the storm is meant to rage for a million years, I don't see this as something that we'll see resolved (or even significant progress made on) in the next issue or two. I think this is a storyline that will be slowly played out over the next few years.

At least I hope I'm right. I'd be sorely disappointed if the eon-long build up to the destruction of the universe gets stopped in a few weeks' time. It'd be a little anti-climactic.

Slug.

The person who did the voiceover sounded a little like Patrick Stewart... I know it wasn't him, but it did sound similar. I like that, especially since Stewart is a Shakespearian actor, it lends an air of class to the video. The person could probably do a Stewart impression given time.

I've got to say, this is definitely without a doubt the best trailer they've put out so far.
It's just... so comic-booky!

This has got to be the single-best trailer this game has ever seen officially made. The voice acting is in a class of its own, and whoever that voice actor is, he deserves major, major props. Even at the points where function superseded impact (like the parts where he explains details and technicalities) the voice acting still held true and retained its strong effect.

The text itself is both outstanding and a bit forced at the same time. Where it was written free-hand just to sound cool, it sounds VERY cool. Where it was written to explain game-related details, it turned rather too... Specific and lost some of its appeal. But the overall line of thought would always pick back up and carry on. A smashing success.

The camerawork is a little jumpy at places and I saw a belt clipping through the abdomen of one of the menders in at least one shot, but such is to be expected given what I know about the game and the editing of its videos. I would have liked a bit more of a fine-toothed comb, but what was done was by far better than most others, rivalling even some of the full CG movies we have of the game.

The story is certainly very interesting in and of itself, and even if I had never played the game, I'd still love to see it. That something's rotten about that Mender Silos guy is obvious from the movie, if for nothing else than his patronising, evasive mannerisms. "The less you know about this, the better..." is pretty dang in-your-face, but his constant referrals to "a coming storm" and problems that need to be solved without actually saying WHAT he sees going wrong and WHAT needs to be done to fix it, is going to be suspicious no matter who it is that says it.

I love the play with detail in the speech, too. Who cares if we'll never see the other 10 methods of time travel (I'm assuming we won't). Talking about them like they're no big deal makes a HUGE difference in the overall impact. As is specifically mentioning his menders by name. They may have names in-game, but talking about them in the movie makes the whole experience a LOT more scenic.

And, no, I didn't miss the shot of requiem when Mender Silos talks about events reaching their crescendo. It didn't escape my eye that there was a shot of a 5th Column bunker (the hanging stairs room with a couple of boilers below) when he talks about that his mission will meet difficulties. Being that I haven't done any of those missions yet, I fully expect the 5th Column to play some specific role in the problems.

It's also worthy of note that many of Diviner Maros's ramblings about a second rising of the tower appear to make some semblance of sense when viewed in the context of the Oruborous organization. We'll see how that turns out, but the movie is made of win, as it were.

You know, while I was watching, I was thinking it sounded like a VO guy trying to do an impression of Tony "Shere Khan/Megabyte/The Elder God" Jay. And doing a pretty darn good job at it, I might add.

Random point of trivia: Tony Jay did the VO work for William the Just in the original Blood Omen video game. Of course, the player may remember William the Just by his other name: Nemesis.

You just mentioned one of my favourite voice actors. Tony Jay's unique voice makes him a master of confident, autocratic figures, and would probably have made him ideal for this role

However, the voice actor here reminds me either of one of the Aurelian troopers from the Advent Rising game, or LeChuck from the Curse of Monkey Island. That's what three screenings are telling me so far

((Normally I wouldn't cross post, but it really seemed relevant to both threads, and the visitors on both are very likely to be different, so I'm reposting the following here.))

They said a while ago (I tried before, but I can't find the quote) that there is a three part story arc beginning with Issue 10. In the movie trailer, Lor-... Mender Silos says that our feud with the Rikti is the key to a moment that destroys the world.

Also, when he references the end of the world, the camera stops on the Circle of Thorns.

Between these two, I think that if we DO get a zone, it will be about the intersection of those two clues. Say, a Co-Op Task Force in which the Circle of Thorns is attempting to summon a creature to destroy the Rikti, thinking that they'd help us out, but that creature is actually capable of growing. After he kills the Rikti, the Circle of Thorns attempts to stop him, but he's all like "Blaaarrrgh, I'm Evil guy!" and begins to crush everything and everybody. Eventually, he grows in power and destroys the world.

This summoning of an awesome sauce beast would be something that was foreshadowed in Troy Hickman's comic run, by the by.

The new content will be dedicated to stopping that beast, the most awesome of sauces, and thus saving the world. It will probably be a task force.

Positron said during the City Scoop radio show (I can't link to verbal, people! Go find it on siradio.fm !) that Issue 12 will be a transition issue setting up Issue 13. This implied that Issue 12 won't be as epic in scope as, say, Issue 9's economy or Issue 11's ability to redo missions. It'll be something relatively small and getting the point across, like Issue 10 was.

So, it fits nicely that we'll have a high end task force dedicated to co-op destroying this Circle of Thorns attempt, and a few other sprinklings on the side.

If we don't end the Rikti war before it truly hits critical mass, the universe will end.

'Course... that's all just my speculation, and I'm the person of indeterminate gender that brought you Moon base in Issue 10, so I'd probably just block my posts from now on.

As awesome as that idea sounds, Marcian, I don't think that'll be what this "coming storm" will be.

What We "Know" So Far
- The overarching story that has been stated to span 3 issues began in Issue 10.

- Hints at the story were in place as early as Issue 8:
---- Lost NPC speech in Faultine begins forshadowing
---- Hints of seismic anomalies on the Moon

- Issue 10 brings knowledge of the Battalion to the forefront and roots them solidly in Rikti History.

- Lord Nemesis had/has some part in the "coming storm" that leads either directly or indirectly to the fall of humanity. (Granted, this isn't much since that man's got more fingers in more pies than Lex Luthor. And that's terrible.)

- Space-borne locations have already been fleshed out enough in the story bible to give them actual names: Gagarin Space Station and Armstrong Moon Base.

What Can Be Assumed:
I think it's clear that the major foreshadowing is that the Battalion is coming. Nemesis' scheming is what keeps the Hero/Villain and Rikti factions from uniting against that threat and thus, they both fall.

Issue 12, in my opinion, will see the launch site construction moved along to near completion stages. More information about the forthcoming Space Zone(s) will be moved into the game along with more foreshadowing.

Issue 13 will see the arrival of the Battalion scouts and the opening of the Space Zone(s).

Wow, Best Studio-made CoX video i've ever seen!

Usually the fan-made stuff beats the in-house stuff in terms of quality and creativity, but this? Wow, too good! =)

What I really, really think is the best part?

It's not a 'movie'. It's all in-game footage. No need to go and snazz up things and make them look like they're better than they are in game. They already ARE this cool.

Bugger, and I was so proud of my I-11 trailer until I saw this. But yes, props for an awesome voice actor and good filming. I wonder who they got to voice Silos...

But hey, at least now I know I have a new bar to surpass for I-12!

Y'know... This video, or a shorter version, should get some wider exposure, say before a TV audience.

Aside from the awesome voice acting, there's not a thing in it that cant' be seen in game and experienced for yourself. Not only is it awesome, but it's also delightfully truthful about the game.

"This is what you get in City of Heroes and City of Villains: Pure, unadulterated comic-book awesome. Heroes and Villains kicking [censored] by the metric load. Punches, claws, beams, blades, guns, flying, leaping, ice and fire going bloody everywhere while GOO ALIENS are coming to devour you! We've got it all. Robots, ninjas, pirates, monkies and DEMONIC FLAMING NAZIS WHO WANT TO KILL YOU. Are you a bad enough dude to save the world?"
