Discussion: Issue 11 "A Stitch In Time"

In the screenshot of the Apocalypse and Hecatomb enhancements, the title includes a "Superior" designation I can't recall seeing before. What does that mean?
[/ QUOTE ]
Should simply indicate that the -recipie- is superior; it being purple are rare and powerful and such.

Here's my question about Weapon Customization. If I've got a Tommygun in my blaster's hands, how do I use Flamethrower?

Overall I like what I'm reading for this issue.
I'm glad the ourobous thing is not just flashback, that it actually has some new content, as I don't feel any real need to go back and do the missions I missed, save for the occasional accolade requirement.
The invention stuff, eh, I don't have strong feelings about either way. I use inventions, and I guess it'll be neat to have some more choices (especially having, well, any choices in the debuff category), but it's not a big deal to me.
New powersets, always welcome. Anything that increases the options for getting the character from the player's imagination into the game is a good thing.
Weapon customisation, woot. Both for the choices it's offering now, and for the possibilities for the future. I am dismayed at the unlocking requirement for some (all?) of the options, both as a player - don't wanna have to sit for 25-30 levels with the "wrong" weaponry, or for that matter farm stuff - and from a lore/rp perspective (the explanation that, e.g. Red Caps don't just give those things away so we have to kill some - surely I'd only need to kill one? And if killing Red Caps gets me their daggers, shouldn't my blasters and controllers and so on be able to get some too? And who says my daggers came from the Red Caps, I could just as easily have made my own in that style. etc etc). It's better than not getting them at all, and I am glad they're added, but still brings with it some dismay and disappointment.
Wow, so all this stuff is pretty groovy. Weapon customization is at the top of the list of things that get me amped.
However, reading about new recipes just makes me want to bang my head on the desk. "Super Rare"? Hmmm, I'm certain we already have those, but they're called "Rares that are useful to more than a fraction of the userbase." I'd hate for my hard work on a TF to be rewarded on a remotely regular basis, but I'd love to have more stuff that I'll probably never earn as a drop during my time playing.

Do the existing I9 recipe titles carry the word "Rare" or "Uncommon"? As many thousands of them as I've crafted, I'm embarrassed to admit I can't remember since I tend to glance at the white/yellow/orange color for that information. Nor do I have a screenshot handy.

Weapon Customization:
Players will be able to change their weapons in the same way that they change their costume parts!

All I'm going to say is that it's about freaking time we had this.

I didn't read every post, so sorry if this has been answered, but any ETA on I11?
[/ QUOTE ]
The Feature teaser has been released. Closed Beta is going to start real soon. According to Kerensky, Closed Beta is going to be very short (probably just very initial debugging under a soft load) before moving quickly to open beta. So, I'm guessing I11 will be released a few weeks before the Winter Event, i.e., early to mid December, thus meeting their three-issue-per-year goal.

Thanks, I appreciate the reply.

Anyone else notice that the main bad guy looks like Stan Lee?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I did.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm starting to think that was very intentional. That was my first thought when i saw him too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same here. But wasn't there some comment about him being immortal as well. In that way I thought it was kind of a compliment. People will remember'ol Stan long after he's gone. And maybe they'll make better Marvel Movies after that too!
....just kidding Stan!
And I'm just can't WAIT to hear what purple "super-rare" salvage all the farmers find and how easy it was for it to drop in their laps!

personally, I can't wait to shoot flame, grenades, and fully automatic rifle bullets out of a shotgun.... someday. I still hold out hope for a shotgun...
Weapon customization!
ZOMG!
I think I just wet myself.

Nobody post anything else, I just finished reading that whole thread. Whew.

I am not aware if this has been asked already but does weapon customization include color?
If not... then is there at least a gold colored Axe?

This is City of Heroes, the answer is either:
- the Tommygun was retrofitted with advanced Rikti technology; or,
- a wizard did it.

New Inventions: Issue 11 brings with it new invention sets including Very Rare Purple sets, as well as brand new invention sets for Taunt, Buff and Debuff powers, among others.

If you are going to insist on doing this, please make sure to add the following two features.
1. MAKE /GIGNORE ACTUALLY WORK RIGHT! Meaning if I /gignore a global, I don't EVER want to hear from that account again. No global tells. No character tells. No email. No trade invites. No team invites. NOTHING.
2. A "local" spam filter. If I say "/filter string" then all tells (global or character) sent to me that contain "string" are killed. This can be done clientside, so it's no additional load of the servers.
My reason for asking for these two features is that the addition of rare IO's is likely to cause a major increase in the amount of farming that goes on. Both of these are tools that allow the players to combat RMT spam on their own.
BTW, it may not come as a complete surprise that I think "very rare" IO's are a grotesquely bad idea. Not unless it is the long term plan at Cryptic to have this game slide into the loot based morass where WoW is currently lurking.
Let's do a real life flashback to mid 2003. One of my coworkers went to E3, and came back telling of this MMO that was like nothing else available. "How's that?"" I asked him. "It doesn't have any loot" he replied. "Weird," I replied "I wonder what they'll find to make it interesting.
Well guys, on April 28, 2004, you "Made it interesting" in a big way.
Do you really intend to throw it all away, a little at a time?

I'm pretty sure I didn't need to know that.
Go change your pants, stinky...
You know...I don't see why alot of people seem upset about a new "even rarer" IO set.
IO's are great, but you don't need em to kick-*** in the game. Regular SO's will do.
I have yet to run into a single person in the game who said, you have no IO sets, you suck, we can't/won't run with you.
And really, that's the only time this game will turn into a WoW clone. Right now...yeah, they're nice to have, done right they improve your performance even more so...but hardly needed.

This update looks absolutely killer! Thanks be to the devs for all your hard work.
Might we see some sliders for the weapons some time in a future update? Some of us would really love to control the size of blades, make ridiculously large pistols, or a rifle with a VERY long barrel.
Oh come now best ever i9 is the meat behind these potatoes.
i9 marks the turning point for CoX. The new patch looks so awsome I really can't wait but forever i9 will mark the finest.
Player customization began there with sets actual in game character benefit. The switching of weapons is great don't get me wrong. The in game effect is simple cosmetic which I do applaud. Nothing wrong with options. But I likes the abilities which actually makes any of my toons better even 50s.
A different gun doesn't really help a 50 however the set bonuses granted in i9...well thats why a patch will have to be spectactular to be deemed the greatest ever, i9 rulez.
"Weapon Customization: Players will be able to change their weapons in the same way that they change their costume parts!"
Will this also mean a costume part to represent your weapon. Like the stealth harness under chest details. Sure would be nice to have a sword costume piece for the back of my toon. (Katana in a sheath strapped to my back)

True enough, though I reserve judgement until we know what the purples do. If they just carry bigger enhancement amounts and better bonuses ... eh, as you say. Nice to have, but not absolutely necessary unless you're in some sort of competitive PvP arms race.
They may carry other really nice effects, though. The sort of thing that would cause the WoW equipment situations you describe? Nah, not ever likely to happen in this game. There could well be bonus effects so nifty that you can't help noticing the difference in performance, though.
What kinds of effects would those be? No clue.

I have been asked to more Tf missions then ever. The past month I have been/seen stuff I have waited 2 years to see.
Was I running with farmers well I think I was. Did it change me getting to particate in one all the way through without anyone quitting? I don't love the farmers but it doesn't effect in game play. I will glad help again because for every rare they get well I get one as well.
I also get to see parts of this game I've been missing because I was never on the right teams. The "loot" attracts players why would you be cursing an influx of talentede players. I know several of my buddies have come back from WoW because of this.
so people are quiting WoW too play Cox? sweet, so when does south park make a Cox episode?
I have to say I am really looking forward to the Weapon customization. My main character will take advantage of it and one that i have in my head will. My question is when is this due out? is there a date set or is it up in the air right now?
This is all well and good, but when are we getting quivers for our archers? Large and small quivers as back options instead of capes cannot be too hard to pull off. I mean, where are those arrows coming from?
