Discussion: COH/COV Myspace!

So a few months ago we announced that we would be opening an Official Myspace Page.

There was some heated debate over the topic and we want you to know we heard you. This page will not take the place of regular updates to our page or our forums, this is merely a way for players who already have profiles to keep in touch and to promote our game in a public manner.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to PM me or Lighthouse.

Discussion about COH/COV myspace is located in this thread.

Please tell me it isn't so? Myspace.....How can I put this lightly... IS THE DEVIL!

It's beautiful...

That is all.

I actually use myspace on a semi-regular basis and don't see the harm in trying. More people knowing about CO* is a good thing IMO =)

People have been asking you guys to update the CoH/CoV main page to be updated since I first started coming to these forums. Instead of doing that you're going to spend time creating a MySpace page.

I know you guys want advertisement and more players, but does CoH/CoV really need more players of the type that typically haunt MySpace?

"Sorry, don't have time to fix the Cathedral of Pain. Too busy responding to friend's requests for the MySpace page."

RAOFLMAO!

I spent a while looking around the webpage...and I still don't understand what it does.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

I suddenly feel too old for this game.

ohboy, it's not enough that we have global/server friends to keep track of,, and forums to keep us up to date with all aspects of the game, as well as communicate with our fellow CoH/CoV gamers,, now you're adding Myspace, along with the millions of idiots who already inhabit that wasteland??

Sounds like you must be bending to the will of some pedophile who can't find enough kids on myspace, instead of focusing all your energy into fixing the million bugs that you keep neglecting to attend to

Everyone knows that Sexxy Jay could fix the CoP trial any time he wants to. He'd just sexxify it up and it would work perfectly.

Noononononono, VIRAL advertising! Ex Libris deserves a raise so please reference it by it's managementally correct name.

Hehe, Tabula Rasa is a friend and the poor thing hasn't even been born yet!

Ok, so here's the deal - MySpace is full of people who don't play CoH/V. As common as it is for even internet nerds to look down on MySpace from the lofty heights of their Livejournal, it's an untapped market for CoH/V. So it makes sense to go for it.

It's a nice looking page that uses recycled graphics from the main site. It may help bring some new players to the game (along with the referral program). And not every one of those potential new players will be an idiot.

I'd like to think we could get over the "OMG MySpace LOL!!!" quickly, but sadly I don't think think this will be the case. Guess it's not the forums unless we can add some e-drama to it.

I agree with most others. The Myspace page is going a little too extreme. Like we need somethign else to keep up on. It's really pointless and it just shows us what the developers are really trying to do. Just trying to get new players who are lifeless that are on Myspace all the time. When they need to be fixing up the website and the bugs in which keep the old players on longer. But just a friendly opinion though. If you think that "Adding people to the Friends List" is more important then the website and fixing the bugs, that's on you.

I'm glad the web guys overcame the inherent ugliness that is MySpace. Its popularity is undeserved.

Well i went and took a look...had a bit of a shudder at the page...then slowly and oh so carefully clicked the X and moved away from the keyboard...

Well. I guess if Jack in the Box can do it without having any legal recourse or having any of their creative materials stolen, it'd work for CoX, too.

But. Why, really? Why not just create your own unique server-side journal with blog updates from the devs, and a portal-style area where people could link their own various journal formats (be it Myspace, Livejournal, or their own website) instead?

Myspace just has a pretty...ugly motif that tends to follow it. Political fundraising, cyberbullying, search warrant issues, copyright issues, and corperate-driven censorship...

...Do you guys REALLY want to get involved in all of this? I think you'd be better making some sort of 'central hub' that connects to a VAST network of services, rather than just the one.

But hey. It's your company.

Personally, I wouldn't touch Myspace with sanitized gloves, while wearing a biotoxin CDC suit and a faceguard.

But like someone said, its their company.

Hey...I have a new top friend.

well, as much as many people hate MySpace.. i tend to use it myself.

as a matter of fact, i already sent the friend request from the profile i have in there for "Cybin Monde", just to keep in tune with who i am on the forums.

granted the page doesn't do much.. but eh.. why not? doesn't hurt.. and making a profile on MySpace is hardly going to effect work on bugs. different team of people altogether.

plus, maybe this will give a boost to the web guys to update the main page here.
