Discussion: COH/COV Myspace!

People have been asking you guys to update the CoH/CoV main page to be updated since I first started coming to these forums. Instead of doing that you're going to spend time creating a MySpace page.
I know you guys want advertisement and more players, but does CoH/CoV really need more players of the type that typically haunt MySpace?

Everyone knows that Sexxy Jay could fix the CoP trial any time he wants to. He'd just sexxify it up and it would work perfectly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Still doesn't impinge on the webdevelopers, but if Sexxy Jay did the myspace, MySpace would become cool do to rubbed off sexxy.

Meh, 20 or so dissenting opinions but 360 new friends on myspace since the announcement this afternoon.
This isn't a this and that thing. There is no need to keep up on myspace if you really aren't into it because everything we have here will always be here.
This is to gather together and build community on an already networked site. Could we do this with other sites, yes, will we, maybe.
All in all there are people who are not forum regulars that frequent other sites and can utilize that tool as a resource.
And for those of you thinking that we have newly assigned Positron or other "Dev's" to do the button clicking add this friend. Nope sorry, wrong again.
This is a community endeavor. Development ----------------->Community<----------------Playerbase.
No bugs were left alive due to the development of this page!
Okay, I sent my friend request but I want Positron and Statesman to simultaneously click the "Accept" button.
I find it funny that people get outraged by myspace. It's just a webpage/forum...nothing wrong with it.
Edit: my real friends will get a good laugh out of me putting CoH/V above them on my friend list...it's been that way the last couple years anyway.
[ QUOTE ]
I agree with most others. The Myspace page is going a little too extreme. Like we need somethign else to keep up on. It's really pointless and it just shows us what the developers are really trying to do. Just trying to get new players who are lifeless that are on Myspace all the time. When they need to be fixing up the website and the bugs in which keep the old players on longer. But just a friendly opinion though. If you think that "Adding people to the Friends List" is more important then the website and fixing the bugs, that's on you.
[/ QUOTE ]
I see it a different way.
Having a myspace is good because it will bring new and more players to CoX, and the more players there are, the longer the game will last, because without players, funding is cut, and the game dies, and none of us want that, so I pose a question... A few more idiots in game, or no game?

50Limitshift: EM/WP Brute
Victoria Nox: Dark/Dark Dominator
And about 5 others that change constantly...

Well......the money that pays them comes from the COX fund so indirectly....Yes. Better to have hired another person to work on the numerous problems that haven't been addressed in years or to use the existing page and advertise on Myspace.
Can I be on your top 8?
But on a more serious note, what will the Myspace give me? Alerts? A chat with a dev or designer here and there? Anwsers to upcoming game questions? Noodz?
But really, top 8 me. Skankasaurus Rex.

Aye, like me. My MySpace page is restricted to those I know or groups like this. Nice work, a very impressive looking page.

The outrage, as you put it, is that the time and development could have been used on the *main* page.
Simple enough - I want info on Ford, I go to ford.com. See what's on sale at Sears, sears.com. Information on nVidia, nvidia.com. I want info on City of Heroes, I go to Cityofheroes.com. Not myspace-this, blog-that.
However, it's all moot now.
myspace, man i knew sometime or another that it would come to this. ah well for those who use myspace they got something to play with.
lol, i'm not adding this

WOW.... I have to admit I have never seen so many people get in a tissy over a myspace page. Libris actually has a point.. 20 or so people venting about how MySpace is horrible is not going to override the majority. I personally see nothing wrong with a page being put togeather. I personally use myspace and gladly joined up? But oh wait? Does that make me one of those weird crazy players? Ah, no I think not..
I think it looks terrific. My biggest objections to myspace are poor design with tiny font floating over a busy background so it can't be read and getting assaulted by music I don't want to hear. This was very well done.

Majority? I thought when there was a poll about the Myspace, a majority voted down the idea. I'd link it, but of course that stuff has all been purged from the forums as far as I can tell. (Shocking.)

They didn't ask then. They said "We're doing this, what do you think." It wasn't a vote, it was a declaration.

the formatting seems off, half the page is off my screen, I'm using IE and yes, my browser is maximized
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm having the same issue here
The page seems to be half off my screen with no slider bar at the bottom and thus most of it is unviewable. Using IE as well.

You're on the right track, but I feel the need to correct you a tad bit. The actual Poll Question was "Do you use Myspace?" People THOUGHT they were asking for opinions, but it was a poll in the purest since of the word.

I didn't say they asked. If I recall, the vote was phrased along the lines of "Would you use a CoH Myspace?" which most people voted that they wouldn't, and it started far more complaining than we're seeing now, at which point we were told it didn't matter because they were doing it regardless.
Meh, at this point, I don't care. I said my piece last time and it wasn't listened to (nothing done with the front page, which I believe they said they'd look into last time around), which I imagine is also why a lot of other people aren't complaining this time around either, 300 friends or not. It didn't do us any good last time around, so why bother now?

That was the great misconception that Ex Libris even had to post to clarify. She stated that is the question people THOUGHT was being asked, but it wasn't. The question was "Do you use Myspace?"
A lot of grief(ing?) has arisen from the idea that our opinion wasn't valued. It is, but, for this particular endeavor, we were not asked.
And why? In my opinion, because it doesn't matter. This can only be a good thing. It's more marketing. Unless the marketing is so bad that people refuse to play the game after seeing this site, then it it isn't a step back.

Well, now we are debating a missing source. Not much we can go from there, is there?
Took a look and had to run away in confusion.... Positron isn't bouncing!
