Over two weeks is hardly "a moment's notice". It's unfortunate that you can't participate. However, your post makes it sound like most players need 5-weeks of notice in order to play CoX on a weekend.
There will always be people who have other things planned during a given weekend but most people are not going to benefit more from 5 week notice than 2 week notice. I expect the "my schedule is flexible if I have 5 weeks notice but not flexible if I only have two weeks notice" group is pretty small.
This really doesn't seem like a reasonable thing to complain about. Cryptic isn't the bad guy because you have an inflexible schedule.
*note: I know there are people who have month-scheduled-jobs. But they are very outnumbered by people who have other sorts of jobs (week schedules, 2-week schedules, regular 9-5 M-F jobs, students who don't have class on weekends, etc, etc, etc.) and they (rather than game companies) are responsible for their situations (which may be great other than missing some double xp weekends).

There are people in my company whos schedule is locked in basically a year in advance unless they can arrange their own cover by swapping out a shift with one of a very few others.

Woot happy birthday Posi and thanks for the present. Not sure how much of this weekend i can make but going into work early today and checking out my schedule - sometimes it's nice to be the boss.
My concern, I9 didnt show us any yellow or red blips on the log-in. Hopefully some people will come back, new people will join, and hopefully they will all be hooked after a double exp weekend. Personally, I love the extra numbers for pug's and for when I visit my old servers that have been very very quiet.
Happy B-Day, Posi. I will finally get in on this one. Missed the majority of the last one. Had to work. I have asked for the friday off, and the weekend is always free for me. Yay! I might be able to get my lvl 35 close to 50 if I'm lucky.

haha. the freedom and virtue servers will die. they are already insanely laggy as it is, even on minimal settings, and even on a green dot. draw nearly every person who plays this on a single weekend will spell lag disaster.
I just have to say that I'm with the "why plan this over father's day weekend" crowd. As stated I'll be in vegas with dad (and family) which is great. It just seems like an odd weekend to do this. The funny thing is my dad and I play together so we would have loved this, but it just didn't work out.
I also think it would be nice to have it announced ahead of time more than two weeks. I mean a COH calender where it was listed as an event like three months ahead of time (as well as other events going on) would be great. A place to pull up a monthly calender and look at all the contests, in game events, etc going on would be ton of fun.
Also, I think the double XP toggle "power" would be AWESOME. Put me down for that idea ! It wouldn't even have to be 48 hours. It could be 12 hours and I think it would be great. It could be a vet. reward, a hard to earn badge, a special TF or SF reward.
I really do wonder what this will do to prices on the black market (eeep). With people earning double to quad. infamy prices could skyrocket. Which will be tough on those of us who can't be online that weekend. I think this will be very, very interesting to monitor.

I wish it was the following weekend. That is Father's Day weekend and thus I will be with my family all weekend.
That is not very nice to do this a weekend that many of us will be busy already.

While I love Double XP weekends and my SG pulls together about 20-30 players non-stop for 2 straight days, the timing couldn't have been worse. Many players more than likely have plans already for the weekend, traveling being a big possibility, and cannot make changes to accommodate this event. I understand it is silly to think of it this way, but we are being forced to have to pick between spending time with family (father's) or be selfish and play a game.
I myself, as a father, do not play with my child as she is too young and doesn't really like the game anyway. Therefore, it is impossible for me to say, "I'm sorry honey what daddy really wants to do today is immerse myself in game where I don't eat, don't sleep and don't have time to talk to anyone else." I luck out on these weekends and have a really cool wife that has no problems with me playing all weekend long when these things hit, but in no way will she be okay with me skipping time with my or her father or leaving our child out of her day with me.
Maybe the devs are bachelor's and they don't have to worry about this stuff, but there are plenty of us that do and it kinda irks me I will be missing it as I usually lead my VG events for the entire weekend, and now can't.
Just my two infamy, I'm sure many of the younger players and those not in my same shoes will disagree with me and not care about these problems.
I hope they decide to push it back a weekend.

I hope to team a bunch, so if you see Caradavin or Caradavina on Virtue, Infinity, or Guardian - that's me! (And about 32 other alt toons as well, look for Dog Demon, Edward the Chemist, Kah Gomei, Bahhsheba, The Atomic Physicist, and Majesty's Man - to name a few) I am shamelessly plugging myself.

Why would it onl last till the 17th on a Sunday, and not the morning of the 18th when the servers are rebooted.
I only ask since I work three 13hr shifts Fri-Sun
