  1. Here are my thoughts on this...

Usually a move like this is known as data mining (or collecting information). How many transactions are made, on which accounts (new players, veterns, multiple accounts, etc). Data mining can then be used to prepare for future needs (ie. Walmart knows if there is a storm that causes power outages, stores need twice as many batteries and five times as many pop tarts). So in theory if enough people pay for this it could become the new holiday business model. The event itself for free but a host of fun extras for a "small" fee. Hey you don't have to buy it.

So now comes easter, want those bunny ears? Ten bucks. Fourth of July, Uncle Sam hat, only ten bucks. Groundhog day, a cute tail and buck teeth... ten bucks. Microtransaction, microtransaction, microtransaction. I am not saying I'm against it, it's the economy and the way it goes. I'm just saying in general this type of thing is done in business' for a reason. Mind you this mining will take time, you may not feel it's full effects for a year or so... but we'll all feel it.

    So here's my POV...

9.99 is too expensive when the only add on is several costumes and emotes. A jet pack, costume and transport to Pocket D, that was worth 9.99.

4.99 (under five dollars) is far more worth it if you're going to continue to charge for such additional content.

My idea and I hope it will go to the right people...

The costumes and emotes should all be free, if you earn them. Just like the Christmas event (hate, scarf, etc). You should be able to earn them or...

You could make it so that you can pay 9.99 and automatically get the content. That's right make it so those who want to put the time in and earn the items can earn it and those who want to just buy it outright can buy it.

I wouldn't suggest this for everything, just as an alternative to those things you may charge for in the future.

So those who wanted to attend them wedding tonight in full garb may have had to buy the dresses and tuxes in order to be there looking snazzy... but those who want to earn it could run around collecting valentines day cards (from blinking cuties spread throughout the cities ala presents) or from running missions (for the newly wed couple) or any number of other ideas.

Just my thoughts. I will not be paying for this package. Those who are against and and buy it anyway seriously don't understand what they are doing. When you buy something you are voting with your money (which is what companies want). So my vote on this is no, for 4.99 it may have been yes.
  2. The one weekend in all of Feb I have no time to play. Boo. Oh well, I've missed every one so far, why ruin tradition? Still nice to have notice though !
  3. Double XP Weekend and Server Hardware Improvements
We have another Double XP Weekend coming! Currently we are targeting February for this event. It will be the same format as we have run previously: a weekend long fest of double rewards of experience gain, influence or infamy, and prestige! Double XP is always popular and usually drives our online numbers to record heights.

To better address performance issues that tend to arise under such conditions, we are investing in server hardware upgrades. Technology is always marching forward and we are making this investment back into the game to take advantage of the latest tech and help create the best gaming experience possible for our players.

Our plans are to have all of the new hardware online before the coming Double XP Weekend. We will post more details of the server upgrade schedule, along with the dates of the actual Double XP weekend soon, so keep your eye on the City of Heroes website!

    >>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<
So my question is does the NCNC team all ready know when the double XP weekend is and isn't willing to release the dates (yet) or is the exact date in a state of flux due to the server upgrade(s)?

Kudos for all of the great information. Is it just me or does it seem like since NC stepped in we are getting more communication from devs on what's going on?
  4. Sounds pretty darn neat to me ! I'd love me some defender \ mastermind \ controller \ dominator \ Brute action. Oh man, oh man.
  5. Do the devs read these boards ? I'm just wondering if there is any chance they might say something like "you know what, it was a bad weekend to plan this, so we are moving it a weekend forward." or "Due to poor planning, this time and only this time we are going to have three double xp events this year and will plan another before the end of summer on a non holiday weekend." So do they read these boards and do they value our feedback at all? I'm not being a smart alec, I'm asking because I'm new to the boards and I don't know.
  6. I understand Father's day is one day... but in this day and age of multiple families, numerous divorces, etc. there are many people who end up doing things on mutliple days.

This year I'm going to Vegas with dad. Last year I had two different father's days to celebrate (as could be the case with anyone married if family can't get together on the same day) and that's not even taking into consideration people that have children of their own.

I'm not saying it's a HUGE thing. It's double xp. Okay great, would be awesome to be there for it but my life isn't over since I'm missing it. I'm only saying that you'd think when they looked at the calender they'd rule out weekends with a major holiday where a lot of people travel and get together with family.

Any chance they could put this off by a week? The timing with Father's Day makes it pretty inconvenient for me unfortunately, and probably for a lot of others out there. Just putting this on the table, less whine and more a "what were you thinking?"

did ya stop to think it might be a fathers day gift?

    [/ QUOTE ]

A father's day gift ? I can see it now. Sorry dad can't spend time with you, too busy enjoying you're father's day gift. Sorry kids, can't do anything with you, got a really cool father's day gift in a computer game. LoL. Put me down in the +1 for moving it a weekend so I can spend time with my dad and my favorite game.
  8. I just have to say that I'm with the "why plan this over father's day weekend" crowd. As stated I'll be in vegas with dad (and family) which is great. It just seems like an odd weekend to do this. The funny thing is my dad and I play together so we would have loved this, but it just didn't work out.

I also think it would be nice to have it announced ahead of time more than two weeks. I mean a COH calender where it was listed as an event like three months ahead of time (as well as other events going on) would be great. A place to pull up a monthly calender and look at all the contests, in game events, etc going on would be ton of fun.

Also, I think the double XP toggle "power" would be AWESOME. Put me down for that idea ! It wouldn't even have to be 48 hours. It could be 12 hours and I think it would be great. It could be a vet. reward, a hard to earn badge, a special TF or SF reward.

I really do wonder what this will do to prices on the black market (eeep). With people earning double to quad. infamy prices could skyrocket. Which will be tough on those of us who can't be online that weekend. I think this will be very, very interesting to monitor.

Have fun everyone ! Enjoy the weekend and remember, you don't need to eat and you don't need to sleep... but you should at least call your dad.
  9. Of freaking course... I'm in Vegas. Excellent.

  10. Lighthouse posted an update that the new date is June 15th (under announcements).
  11. It's probably taking them a lot longer than expected to read all of the submissions. Especially if they have to read them all on hypercomics. We just need to be patient (we are all soooo good at that).
  12. I ceratinly would love it if anyone would give Holiday Heroes a read and some commentary
  13. I would love it if they would list the top 50 or top 25... it would be nice since a lot of people put a lot of work into them.
