Comic Book Contest--Update

So we have had over 300 submissions for the City of Heroes/City of Villains Comic Book Creator Contest.

We are currently in the process of reviewing each submission and preparing for our final judging process.

We appreciate everyone that took the time to make a submission and from what I have seen so far those judges are going to have a tough time narrowing down the winner circle.

Great work everyone and thank you for supporting the Comic Book Creator Contest

300 eh? Seems like decent enough odds...

Yeah, I got to say, I'm really surprised that it's only 300-ish. I mean, I think there were 300 up on time to Hypercomics and I figured that there were maybe a couple hundred who submitted them without publishing publically.

On a personal note, I'm kind of perplexed about the number of views my comic has gotten. Sure, I've looked at it a few times from work and I've solicited feedback on the forums but my page views are way up there. It's hard for me to believe I'd be in the running because of the text box upload problems but someone seems to be looking at my comic an awful lot.

Who is it? Own up!

I've been making my way through many of them myself. Most of the submissions are available for anyone to review over at hypercomics.com

Wonder how many submissions there would have been had Hypercomics worked for everyone...

Yes, I'm still bitter.

Seeing how I waited until the zero hour, I probably would have been super friggin' pissed myself if Hypercomics hadn't worked for me. I'd say that you are entitled.

I hope you do another one of these in the future. I finnally have a stroy I like for my charater.

I didn't even bother with Hypercomics. I attached my comic to the e-mail and mailed it. I'm super afraid the attachment didn't work and my comic never made it

The wait to find out who the winners are, is killing me.

Although, after seeing a lot of the submissions in HyperComics, I probably have little chance of winning.

Makes me wish that there'll be Honorable Mentions, maybe 5 or 10, and give them a consolation prize like.... um.... just a yellow title.... yeah. No monetary value right?

Personally, I agree- I've only made it through maybe a fifth of what's up there, but many more need recognition than what the prizes will offer. I've commented on the few I've seen, but at the least, after judging is over, it would be neat if judges, community managers, and community members added a few comments of praise.

Maybe the "city scoop" can hilight a different comic a week....

I just want to know how well I did. Oh well I'll just wait I suppose.

I hope they do something like this again.....but this time with a not-so-buggy hypercomics program...

And I'm still bitter too...

I'm sure the judges are aware of the issues people had with HyperComics and won't take it out on our work, seeing as how it's no fault of ours that the code is buggy.

I'm still reading through many of the submissions, too. Man, there are SO many good ones!

I thought it worked out perfectly to have the contest end almost right on the 3-year anniversary mark for the game. We should petition to have the CoX team do one of these every year, on the anniversary of the original launch. Seems fitting, no?

Hey WeaponofWar I just read your book, good stuff.

I really like the screenshots you took/set up very nice.
And don't listen to the guy about the color scheme I could tell who was talking. Though I guess if you WERE color blind you would get confused.

And surprising your little "did you miss issue 0" was not distracting. I actually thought it was funny. You had enough there that I was able to follow the story and not feel like I missed something.

Though your free poster bit, while funny, was also kinda throwaway you coulda left it out and been just fine.

Well, I wasn't able to get a submission together thanks to two problems:

1) Time (college exams, singing at a graduation, recording for a CD...time!)

2) Still need to fix the screenshots function on this thing (it's not sending them to the right folder, and they just...get lost).

Good luck to all participants, and I look forward to seeing all submissions!

I, too, would very much like to see some more info on all this. 300 seems like so many, but I feel like I've gone through every single comic (CoX or not) twice already.

And I second the motion for a sorta-not-quite knockout list (a la American Idol, and similar contests) where they can at least tell us "Hey, these are the top 10 (20? 50?) we've narrowed down to the semi finals".

The anxious wait is agonizing and such.

I could certainly get behind that idea, even if they didn't have the prizes and stuff. It'd be kind of expensive to do that giveaway every year. Maybe next time I'll get more than two pages done.

I would love it if they would list the top 50 or top 25... it would be nice since a lot of people put a lot of work into them.

If they did that, I think I'd just as soon not know exactly where my comic placed were it one of the top 50, 25, or 16. Sure, I'd like to know it was in there but I'd rather be able to imagine it was in 4th place instead of knowing that it was and that I had only missed it by a nose.

With so many great entries, I don't think I have to worry though.

um, I cant read any of them.

They're too small to read the text, if I make them bigger they go off the screen and I cant move it to read the rest...

This Hypercomics thing is like...the worst piece of crap ever...

Does anyone want to link to PDF versions of their work so I can check it out?

If you click on the enlarged comic you can move it around to read it a pain in the rear because you have to do it with every page but that's how you do it.
