The Great Consignment House Heist of May 9th
All I have to say is this stuff happens, and as long as they are trying to work on it and make it right, which they are, then I see nothing further to say. So, umm, get over it, its being taken care of - one thing's for sure, whining won't fix anything.
I remain in darkness to expose the light in you.

Dude, read before you post. This ENTIRE THREAD is about what compensation is coming. From the OP:

You should re-read it as we.. please note they used words like hopefully and "planning to" as in they don't know if they even CAN do that. Which is why I was asking if they know for sure that they can atleast see if and who lost what...
[/ QUOTE ]
Answered as well, also in the OP (actually, the very next line after the previous quote):

At the time of this writing we are still testing this, but are confident enough that we can pull it off that Im giving you advance notice of it.

In the Original post that started all of this talk, where did it say anything about villans being affected? Some were... I am unfortunatly one of the people that was, though it wasn't much at all, probably less than 200k but still there may be others out there like me that lost items in City of Villans and I thought I should shed some light on that for Lighthouse and Staff by bringing it up.
Thank You For Your Time And Effort Towards All Things Related
What the OP actually said:
[ QUOTE ]
The issue only affected the Hero side Consignment Markets no Villains were affected.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your issue is likely a separate bug - I'd /petition if you're certain you lost stuff.
Kam
I was affected, as I had put a lot of stuff up for sale the night before that got ate, including a rare SO's recipe that sells for a couple of million alone. Anyway, there's your heads-up. Thanks for doing what you can!

The Thing is though that it was in the auction house right before the update and all that took place, and then after the update and everything was settled it all poofed away and I didn't lose much but I wanted to shed some light.
<QR>
I had a lot of buy orders in and probably lost 50 million influence. I hope their fix works........
I made a follow up post on this issue in the Announcement thread.

Man... introduce an economy and all of a sudden the speculators are [censored] about their lost wealth opportunities at the very first hitch in the system.
This isn't the NASDAQ or the NYSE. It's a GAME.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
... Did anything get fixed yet?
The reason I ask is because I have 2 of a recipe I know I only bought one of. And I had purchased it well over a day before any glitches. So when the game was rolled back I only had one. I only had one during the glitches. I only had one the day before the glitches. Now I have two.
I know exactly what the one and only item I lost was and it was from the same set so I'm wondering if they tried/did a replacement and just gave back the wrong item? I just can't seem to find any posts supporting that they've actually gone forward with a fix yet.

Ball Lightning, nothing has been done yet for reimbursement. We are still testing that and will give as much advance notice when that is happening as possible.
Are you sure you only had 1? You didn't buy 2 in a frenzy of purchases?

This is great news. My level 50 had 13 million in outstanding bids that disappeared (taking the Influence with them). I just assumed it was lost forever, it's cool to hear I may get it back!
I got back a lot of the salvage I had already sold last night. I did not lose any influence during the trouble period. I sold my salvage again, gaining another 17x,xxx influence. Too bad I didn't get the two higher value salvage I'd already sold - could have made another 300,000-400,000. Anyway, I then purchased low value items for far too much influence to pass my gain on to others, since I hadn't done anything to earn it and didn't care if someone else who hadn't done anything to earn it got it instead.

I honestly don't remember buying two. I really can't afford it. As it is I've got bids in for three full sets but don't even have the money to buy the salvage.
Oh well... if I know it's not going to be taken away I'll put it back up for sale lol.
I too ended up with duplicate sets. I think that was because sometime after 10pm that evening I decided they weren't selling and removed them from the Wentworth's. After the rollback, tada, the recipes appeared back up for sale as well as in my recipe inventory.
They still aren't selling. Nobody wants level 29 IO set recipes.

Way to go on blowing this completely out of proportions!
Read the posts before blowing up man. They are taking the necessary steps to correct the loss.
Besides, it was hardly the entire heroside.
Main Hero: Flame Blade (Scrapper lvl 50; Katana/Regeneration)
Main Villain: Elenor Seahawk (Mastermind lvl 44; Necromancy/Poison)
My Arcs: #337278: Learning Curve
Fight my Brute: SMASH
I'd say the Eve Online dev corruption scandal had a much greater impact than this incident.
Luckily I doubt I was effected by this since I'm not a hardcore user of Wentworth's, but all the same I'd like to give lighthouse kudos for some awesome community relations!
As an IBM DB2 Database Administrator, I've often wondered what database backend you use. I have a good idea what kind of effort this kind of restore takes, even though I don't have a picture of the specifics.
I will likewise not press any further, but just so you know - DB2 features include high availability database mirroring, partitioning across multiple systems to improve data integrity and throughput, and many more features that could be of value to your team.
Sorry, Lighthouse, I couldn't let the SQL Server DBA say something without putting in my own $0.02! :-)

So has or hasn't it been rolled back? Lighhthouse made mention that it was then that it will be in his post.
I as of now am still getting shafted but...I'll gladly START OVER if everyone else is fine but I just can't believe that.
How about rolling back to before i9 came out and starting over there. Hate to think of all the effort and money lost.
I'd gladly trade it all for one recipe trade to a buddy that gave me his money to do it and now what gee sorry guy I lost your money. Think they'll be inviting me soon doubt it.

Most of your post was too confusing to read because of the lack of punctuation, but the answer to *this* question is Yes, but they still have fixes to do.
here's what happened:
On Wednesday (5/9) morning the Consignment House server crashed. A few hours later when they thought they had everything back up and running the restored a back up of the Consignment House data, but they backup was from Tuesday (5/8) at around 8:00PM*. That means that everything that happened in the Consignment House from 5/8 8:00 PM to the morning of 5/9 was undone. This is what they call a "rollback". The problem is that everybody who, for instance put a large sum of money into the Consignment House in the form of bids after 8:00 PM on Tuesday night lost their influence.
The only records of what happened between 8:00PM and the next morning are logs. I suspect that what's happening right now is some poor schlub is frantically writing code that parses the log files trying to filter out "out-going" transactions so that they don't re-redupe items and then if they're lucky they'll be able to put that into a database script. If not, the solution might actually involve having everybody in the office chip in for a few hours to manually re-enter stuff from an excel spreadsheet or something. This is all just conjecture, mind-you, but it's the kind of thing that I've seen have to happen in my workplaces when data vanishes.
* I'm still somewhat suspicious of the rollback time given the number of people saying that items bought or sold well before the 8:00PM rollback time were duped. It almost makes me wonder if the problem wasn't confusion over the time on the back-up file. If the back-up process completed on 8:00PM it might have started well before that, which might explain some of the discrepancies.

That's most likely what happened. My brother got a free 5 million influence when he took down his 5 mil bid for the tech wings recipie, only to find out the next day that his bid had magically "returned".
If recipies and salvage can safely overflow, then I probably won't even need much advance warning. Wish I didn't have to put my mercantilism on hold while I wait for my money to come back, but that's the way it goes, I guess. At least I've got my villainous push to 50 to keep me busy.

Its just a game and there are going to be bugs in this new system.

And if you pay 15 dollars a month for something and it doesn't deliver as well as it should you should just be a meek little drone and move on is what you're saying?
This kinda stuff has happened before but not on this scale. And again if this weren't admittedly their fault, if it was just a snafu or something, I wouldn't be nearly as annoyed by this but this is flat out negligence.
You guys can come to their defense as much as you want and keep that childlike hope that they'll come sweeping down from the heavens with All the lost Inf an items for everyone but it doesn't change the fact that this was a terrible human error. If they are capable of a screwup this massive once they're capable of it again. What happens when they screw up and can't fix it? Or they screw up and Your character is gone?
Yeah, it's a game and it's also a service and this has to do with quality control regarding the service we all pay for.
