Quote:Ooo, who, where?Might need to open the wallet again and burn influence into the Prestige Pit, our favorite guy is back
I burned like 12b a week or two ago, and for some reason decided to buy some $$ stuff for a toon I haven't played in a year, so I'm a little short this week. I'll have some for the pit next week sometime, tho! -
Neander Paul decided to get the fire pit going big enough to roast a side of mammoth. It took 25B. Sandwiches anyone?
And don't look now, but we're at 965m, Hero Dawn's at 1000m, and AL is at 1062m..... -
I seemed to have missed this... Neander Paul might make an appearance tonight and see how far behind he is....

Quote:A friend of mine tried to claim an email with an inf attachment that would have put her over the inf cap. It reported that it failed, gave the reason, but still stripped the attachment off of the mail anyways. She's also in contact with support over the issue. So yeah, something doesn't appear to work quite right there.... at least occasionally.
Has anything similar happened to anyone else?

Quote:On a completely related note, if you can provide a game that can (along with only a couple other requirements) provide the experience where my character can swoop into Crey's Folly, summon the entire horde of Freakshow into a very large conjured Cuisinart, hit liquify, and still fail the mission...... I'd probably buy a lifetime sub. There's another thought I've had for some time now, and that is that another way to ensure that power choices are less quantitative and more qualitative is to simply decouple combat from rewards. Or to put it more simply, design your reward system so it rewards accomplishments more and kills less. Its almost MMO heresy to suggest that the majority of your rewards come from anything other than killing things, but it was also MMO heresy to make a game that is mostly instanced. If we are spending most of our time running instanced missions as opposed to street sweeping, our time is mostly spent running highly controlled mission environments with a much higher diversity of possible objectives. As far back as CoV beta I questioned why it was that a stalker stealthing to the end of a mission and clicking on the blinkie at the end was considered an exploit. Isn't that what stalkers do? Perhaps the reward was too high for that specific behavior, but why is it essentially *disallowed* in this game? Because it seems to be an obvious rule that if you don't have to kill anything, you're somehow cheating, because this game is balanced on the premise that your performance should be related to the speed at which you kill things.
But if rewards came from a much more diverse set of objectives by design and intent not only would that make for a more interesting game in my opinion, it would lessen the advantage of quantifying the precise offense and defense of every power. When all is said and done, all of those calculations would have to somehow be compared to the potentially large qualitative but difficult to quantify benefits of stealth, fast movement, object manipulating powers, alternate damage types, etc. That would be like figuring out the optimal way to slot Combat Jumping without knowing how to determine the relative strengths of Dark Armor and Invulnerability. -
Slight necro, sorry.
Quote:You've explained the qualitative design of World of Arcanaville, and most of it I'm down with. What I'm interested in is the quantitative design of that game:Most choices would be either equitable or qualitatively obviously explained. If you deliberately choose to take little or no offensive options and load up on defensive ones, you would be a more defensive and less offensive character. You may kill a lot slower, which would affect your performance relative to more balanced characters. But it would be a blatantly obvious decision on the player's part.
Similarly, if there was an ability that increased your frontloaded damage but did little for sustained damage, and another ability that increased your sustained damage by a lot but didn't frontload that damage, those abilities would say, specifically, that they did those two things. This one increases your immediate damage by a lot, but averages out to a low overall damage. Your kill speed only goes up a little, but you kill more stuff faster at the start of combat. The other increases kill speed a lot over time and you will kill more stuff faster, but you won't kill very many things up front so you will have to deal with more punishment at the start of a fight. You get to choose, but the choice is presented in an obvious manner. What's better: increased kill speed or increased frontloaded kills? Depends on what you want, not on what's "intrinsically better."
Quote:The "Arcana" of the game I would design would have their work cut out for them, because I can theoretically make a game design that is arbitrarily difficult to min/max, even for me Quote:the math has to be impervious to the intelligent -
They were trying to incentivize people to all log into one server to test changes to the server infrastructure, so the "server performance issues" aren't "given". That's the test. Not saying a 1 time 3 hour window badge is a good idea, just saying a Freedom-only account-wide badge isn't a good argument against the idea.

First time around was super cool, and I still plan on coming aboard and contributing, but my big push to 100m prestige on Virtue + stockpiling pre-i20 commodities (that haven't yet gone back up to where I think they will) + funding uberbuilds for friends has left me too short on cash to contribute to the burn pile right now. I'll be along in a bit with full pockets, tho, don't worry
-
I'll probably catch up with you guys after a while, but right now I have 4-ish builds coming up that I'm working on funding that are going to require tens of billions ( only one is mine! 8-/ ). But that'll just give everyone else a fair headstart on the leaderboard

Trying to help a friend put together a Dark Armor/Dark Melee beast, and I'd like to throw a shout out to the community for help. I'm trying to get S/L/E/N softcapped, while providing as much power enhancement, recovery, +hp and recharge as possible after that (probably in that order?). I'm sure someone has put a lot of thought into this build, and I'm wondering what those builds look like. Here's what 45 mins and Jim Beam has to say about the build. As you can see, I'm far from my goals. Any help is appreciated!

I only saw Fulmens on both times I logged in my 88'er yesterday. As far as chatter, there was some discussion in one of the global channels after one of my friends caught wind of this thread and threw me a shoutout there. He now intends to get his mostly solo SG into the top 100 by charging me to get into TFs he runs, and for every time I die in one, the *******.
-
-
Take this, paupers! (which I have to now count myself amongst)
-
Like I said in the other thread, I'm going to try to get my prestige total up to 100mil on the 21st. Neander Paul is, iirc, at around 67mil atm, so I'll need to find 16.5bil. Since I came up with that goal 2 weeks ago I've socked away 6 and some change, but it looks like I might need to dip into my 42 fire/traps cor's final build piggy bank to get to my goal, lol. Good thing I've already acquired his GA proc!
-
Quote:Pretty much agree here all the way around. In addition, I'd be interested whether his group was a from-scratch startup or if it was a 300mil prestige group ranked #25 or something before he started burning. Just trying to get an adequate measurement of how fast his group is goingI assume MnV has multiple allies in his quest to get his VG to #1 on Freedom. Other than the fact he's openly insulted the '88's I'm happy he's blowing up so much inf. I am curious how he's done it, but, I doubt he's bought inf from China cause that would actually be a decent amount of RL money and I doubt someone would pay $7-$9 per billion just to blow it up.
I made 17B over x2 exp weekend so I KNOW that inf can flow like water in this game now. I am curious of his inf making methods (PvPIO AFK farming, Purple farming, what kinds of marketeering, charging for PL, etc). Perhaps after his group has passed he will divulge some of the techniques at least if not the specifics. I'd like to see his data honestly as long as he's honest.
Kinda sucks that several of our highest contributors seemed to have lost their momentum. Maybe, like the Goat, they're still playing other holiday present shinies. My goal is to make my inf contribution equal 100mil prestige on the 21st of this month. It'll be tight, I think, but it's doable at my generation rate. I'm hoping others get motivated to get a big bundle to burn as well, otherwise all my ill gotten gains might start going to Enyalios' effort -
Quote:Went in to burn a couple bil this weekend and noticed the total was STILL at 564, like a week after that last post. For shame. There's not enough wailing or gnashing of teeth around here lately, folks. There doesn't appear to be enough ebil around here to steal candy from a baby, much less unduly burden the casual gamer with the weight of their own despair. For shame!3 billion inf kicked in. We're up to 564 million prestige. Still getting WHOMPED by the ladies and gentlemen of PsychotiX. (687 million-ish.)
I'm looking for a date of renown to get another bonfire going. Hmm, May day's too far out... Lenin's birthday, Trotsky's birthday, Proudhon's birthday, no, no, no.
Ah. February 21. First publication of the Communist Manifesto.
Any better dates?
I'm making some plans for some throw-caution-to-the-wind infl burning on the 21st, or whatever other day folks agree upon. Hope others do, too! -
I just burned another bil. I think that earns another installment of Fulmens smackin' up a niche.........
-
Awesome, competition! A combination of the holidays and a couple respecs have kept me from contributing since The Big Winter Solstice Bonfire of 2010, but with my next build ventures at least a month away, and being having enough again to fund them, Neander Paul has his shovel back out. Burned a bil and a half the other day, and more to come in a couple days!
-
Quote:This way, we can increase the burn rate, and help quell any complaints that the 88s only made #1 because the biggest SGs are really coalitions of multiple SGs.Quote:Originally Posted by Talen_LeeWhy bother quelling the complaints of butthurt idiots?

Quote:I believe I recall the post you are referring to (and another guy came in later and hinted he considered that guy small potatoes, heh). But if I recall correctly, that wasn't all liquid, and that there were a couple hundred sets of purples in base storage counting towards his net worth.I know at one point there was a marketeer who commented they were close to a trillion. A single person. I think we're off by an order of magnitude.
But I do agree, I think we're off as well. No bright, helpful ideas coming to mind, however. -
IO coming as soon as I log in! Yeah, saving it until the 21st. I have no idea how much I'll have to burn by then. Probably somewhere between 3 bil and a whole lot more than that. Are we throwing a party? Is there a time I've missed?
-
Quote:I haven't marketeered much in the past 2 weeks..... I admit it, I just chickened out at participating in the new issue frenzy. I've gotten fat and lazy flipping purples and other high priced commodities, and since I figure there's downward price pressure on those, and since I just didn't see enough of the rest of the market in the runup to have a feel for what was over or underpriced to properly speculate, I'm just sitting it out.Mandur's helping me out with the PvP IO situation, so that's a cool 2.5b for the furnace.
But then the Goat comes along and allows me to still contribute and help keep Granny warm during these cold December nights -
