tried to kill a regen running dull pain+IH with hum a thorn dom?

easy to say when on the hero side mate.
you propose be glad to go to certain death or don't play ?

what strike me the most in this unbalance issue is the hero side in fact.
wouldn't it be more fun for you to have real challenge?
you really like knowing that vilain start with a handicap and still PvP with only uber roxxor build?

a lot of child like kill fourmies but still liking it as an adult amaze me O_o

I have one. I gave my scrapper Intimidate. Ninety percent of the blappers crumble if you take their precious Aim-Buildup-superspeed-Total-Focus-gank away from them.

Well, the devs never answered, satisfying me that they no longer really care about the PvP game or in catering to their customers. They’ve moved on to creating an elaborate “loot” system without fixing obvious bugs in their arenas and sundry balance issues. We can only hope they’ll learn and improve with their Marvel game. I’ll come back to give that a try.

I suppose what remains is to briefly discuss what the team did right and wrong.

The greatest thing the devs accomplished is to design a game that teaches teamwork. A tanker, blaster, defender or controller can only progress very slowly alone. Together they are a force to be reckoned with, each fulfilling a vital role in keeping the others alive. Even the scrapper, good at working alone, can have an exciting role in the team. On the villain side they were less successful. Stalkers and dominators combine in exciting ways, corruptors combine with everyone. But the Mastermind adds so much clutter that many teams refuse to work with them, forcing brutes to “tank.” Still, the archetype system and the resulting teamwork is the crown jewel of their game design success. This design made CoH a valuable experience.

In the PvP game, teamwork is also essential due to the power of the stalker. Even a scrapper cannot do well against a pair of stalkers, and individual controllers or defenders are as victims walking alone in a horror movie. Only together can they hope to survive this horrific threat. I for one enjoyed fighting these villains and only wish the other villain classes offered such a challenge.

The devs designed an immersive, elaborate city (and island chain) with an interesting storyline.

As to what they failed to do, it falls under two categories: immersion and game design.

The game reminds its players that it –is- a game all too often, and violates rules both of the superhero genre and of reality. We are asked to believe that we’re heroes arresting criminals, and we’re allowed to do so with – battleaxes!? Surely many powersets are more appropriate to villains than to heroes.

The PvE game depends entirely too much upon taking advantage of the AI’s stupidities. One may stand in plain view of an enemy for as long as you please and they don’t “see” you until someone enters their pre-programmed radius or attacks. One of their own can run past –on fire!- and they will not notice. Fine for Vahzilok zombies but not for the hyper-elite Malta. Patrols were a step in the right direction.

Tankers as a class are immersion-breaking. The Gauntlet power added to them works for me, but this “taunting” mechanism is a relic from older, cruder MMOs. Neither Captain Marvel nor The Thing send out mind-control rays that make people attack them. Indeed the "taunters" are... Spider-Man and Robin?!

“Conning” is a relic. Does it make sense that past a certain level the enemies simply ignore you? They should always either attack or flee.

Many, many powers are broken and little used: Maneuvers, Group Flight, scrapper and pool taunts, Jump Kick, the redraw factor in pool melee attacks, War Mace, the entire Dominator AT. Other powers outclass their competing options: Energy Melee, Regeneration, Radiation Emission. The devs have fixed some problems such as Super Reflexes and Fire Manipulation but their progress has been glacially slow.

Sadly, the heroes outperform the villains in PvP. Brute “rage” is broken. Dominators are defenseless. Corruptors lack the power of the APP. Masterminds spend two minutes resummoning for three seconds in combat.

..which brings me back to the problem I brought up at the start of this thread, the developers’ failure to engage in “Iterative Game Design.” They have not adapted the game rapidly and decisively in response to game performance and player feedback.

And now it seems they cannot be bothered even to respond to the question. I’d give this “invention system” a chance if they’d replied. You win the wager, Kitten.

It’s been fun.

I may not be good at CoH/V PvP, but I am an FPS veteran, and I know Halo 2 is a mockery of FPS balance.

Halo is probably less balanced than Turok 2 was.

Im confused.....

This thread obviously originated in a much different section of the forums yet, here it is in the Developers corner. I dont see any red names posts here yet, one would assume that a red or at least orange name would HAVE to have taken notice enough to move it here.

Also, I see no mention of this move in those who have posted already.

I assume that this is due to the fact that no one whom this subject applies to knows its here? Have the devs made "sneaky" and moved it where they knew the PvP crowd wouldnt find it?

Or..... were they thinking that the discussion could use a better forum in which to be discussed and tracked?

The problem is that there is no downside to taking the highest performing sets. What if that ice/em blaster couldn't take FoN/PFF/Acro/etc? What if that em/ stalker could only take /DA? In every other MMO I've played, warrior A can take any warrior skill. Not every scrapper can take any scrapper power, because once they choose a primary and secondary, their choices are locked out.

What should happen is that a character is given a certain # of points to spend, and high-performance sets simply cost more. There's your balancing factor. So, my ta/dark defender may be able to get SS, SJ, hasten, acro, etc, while that em/nin stalker may be only able to fit in 1 travel power, and it's either fly or tp.

I'm not saying I know what the point costs should be, and it's obviously too late to implement this now, but (other than theme/flavor) why take a less powerful set if all we're focusing on is PvP?

it is really sad to listen to everyone talk about balancing the AT's personally i think that the AT's ar fine the way they are not every person is the same as everyone else i accept the fact that some AT's are stronger than others that is a good thing instead of nerfing/buffing AT's i think PvP would be 100% better if they took out the auto aim make it so that you have to aim and lead your shots on a moving target instead of tab and click here is an example to try to clear up what i mean

player A is flying high over the battle shooting fire down ion the fight

player B sees him and uses super jump and when he gets close enough he clicks his sting of the wasp power but by the time he draws his sword he has already started his descent to the ground and is will out of reach of his target so since he was not in range when the time came to make the strike then he missed

example 2

player 1 is getting ready to shoot flares at his opponent

player 2 sees that his team mate is about to be hit with the flares and teleports his team mate to the other side of the building then the flares should not fly through the walls and around cornors to hit the target it should be a miss

i think if PvP were changed in this manner the it would be more fun plus it would require some skill and really give people some bragging rights it would make it so that HOW you play your toon is just as important as your powers if not more

Interesting observation and, quite true. Yet, wouldnt a thread breaking those rules simply be deleted? Seems quite odd to me that a post clearly against the rules would be physically moved to a restricted area of the forums (The Developers Corner).

Just thinking that any and all reference towards the validity of the posts intent seems irrelevant as, obviously, the devs/mods have clearly made their position known. At least with "this" post anyway.

What I would like to see is a seperate set of rules as far as how our powers work for both PVE and PVP. No doubt there are powers and power combinations while they are not an exploit in PVE would be in PVP. I would not like to see the PVE portion of this game die because they need to balance PVP and keep the rules identical. I would like to see a thirty to sixty second cooldown when entering and leaving all PVP zones where no fighting is allowed during that time. During that time you could apply the different rules.

There is no demand for an answer, just a comment that a lack of an answer would be considered an answer in itself.

lol... example: a blaster with a single break free will never be beaten by a dominator 1v1 unless he's a **** noob...
build up+aim 2 high dmg powers= dominator is dead before he could even target the blaster

sure... there's a counter AT for every AT... BUT a good pvper won't even attack the counter so where is the pvp then?

I believe they intended for the freaks to be armless. Its their property and can make them how ever they want.

I love when they take a bit out of me with a thwchunk and a head turn sooo cool. Great animation and sound also.
