Signature powers... for players -- I had this idea
it balances out though.. you can't have something that deals amssive damage AND is an extreme heal, the points wouldn't allow for it. (although you could probably make a moderate/moderate one)
most people would want one that fits their character anyway.
i understand what your're saying and it makes sense, but i'd rather allow for the full choices across the board, just for fun.
don't forget.. someone else may have a Dmg/Heal power, but maybe you have a +Def/-Rez one to counteract it.
oh yeah, and..
/RESIGNED!!
Ps - congrats on the re-sticky Ultimus, well deserved!

With Marvel and DC both going to be putting out games, I'd love to see some major upgrades to COH. You need to have new archetypes, powers, and zones ready to launch when those games come out so people don't switch just for new content.
One thing that would be awesome, would be if a single character could have more than two power sets. You could do this as the 39 month veteran reward--but then it won't really be a draw for new people. You could set up special servers with these characters, instead of making it a game-wide change, because you know there are always people who complain about change. Anyway, here are the six power pools:
Power Pool One: 1. Archery 2. Assault Rifle 3. Dark Blast 4. Electrical Blast 5. Energy Blast 6. Fire Blast 7. Ice Blast 8. Psychic Blast 9. Radiation Blast 10. Sonic Attack
Power Pool Two: 1. Devices 2. Electricity Manipulation 3. Energy Manipulation 4. Fire Manipulation 5. Ice Manipulation 6. Thorny Assault
Power Pool Three: 1. Earth Control 2. Fire Control 3. Gravity Control 4. Ice Control 5. Illusion Control 6. Mercenaries 7. Mind Control 8. Necromancy 9. Ninjas 10. Plant Control 11. Robotics 12. Thugs
Power Pool Four: 1. Cold Domination 2. Dark Miasma 3. Empathy 4. Force Field 5. Kinetics 6. Poison 7. Radiation Emission 8. Sonic Resonance 9. Storm Summoning 10. Thermal Radiation 11. Traps 12. Trick Arrow
Power Pool Five: 1. Battle Axe 2. Broad Sword 3. Claws 4. Dark Melee 5. Electrical Melee 6. Energy Melee 7. Fiery Melee 8. Ice Melee 9. Katana or Ninja Blade (I'm not really sure what the difference is between these two powers.) 10. Martial Arts 11. Spines 12. Stone Melee 13. Super Strength 14. War Mace
Power Pool Six: 1. Dark Armor 2. Electrical Armor 3. Energy Aura 4. Fiery Aura 5. Ice Armor 6. Invulnerability 7. Ninjitsu 8. Regeneration 9. Stone Armor 10. Super Reflexes
They need some tweaking, but you get the general idea. Lassos as a primary and shields as a secondary for tankers would also be cool, as well as lassos as a secondary for masterminds (it would go great with thugs/pistols for a cowboy character). Also, we've been waiting for spider powers forever. "Mounts" would also be cool, both animals and vehicles. And some more choices for veteran pets.
Thanks.
Hey, with all the emotes already in the games code, I find it hard to believe there isnt a way to view a library of animations like the Freedom Force superhero game that came out a while a go. Whn making a character, you could indeed name, colorize, and set up animations for your powers.
Power and Color Customization!
'nuff said
just so you guys know..
Signature Powers do not include customizing colors, but it does include choosing effects from what's currently available.
also, i wouldn't expect color customization to happen.. ever. the devs have already explanied that it's just too much to have to go back and reprogram everything to allow for it.

Glad to see this is still hanging around - I still think it's an awesome idea.
To anybody who's worried about the balance aspect, I'd encourgae to search my posts in the thread - I spent a lot of time on working out a system that seemed to generally produce balanced results, but the more eyes the better :P
I used to have superhuman powers, but my therapist took them away...

It is a very good idea and could also be implemented into PvP to help the balance there - like a separate PvP Build tree which would allow both PvP and NPC builds in the one toon.
After sleeping on it I also thought of things like..
enough points in "Buff/CM" pool to make CM an aura
or to turn 1 melee attack into a cone or PBAoE or whatever.
You get my drift.
I am TOO OLD to know any better....whats your excuse?
It's a great idea.

Uber Talgrim - level 50 emp/dark defender
Uber Rod - level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper
Rod Valdr - level 50 invuln/SS tanker
Talgrim - level 50 ninja/dark mastermind
OMG!! Please add these costume designs now!
I think this is a REALY good idea! I have had the same dream numerous times, but not so complex.
Such as: You sort of make a macro of powers, all in the same category, of course.(ie Range, Buff, melee, etc) Then, you can choose the animation, and there would be various ones to choose from, with animes from current sets and the ability to expand a set's anime to something different. (ie invunrimilitie's glow to a blast, or Kinetics' anime to a tank power)

Or...what i thought was that this type of process would start at lvl 1. In This version, the player would pick his/her "signature" powers from one of dozens of pre-set powersets. Every ten lvls, you obtain the power you chose to get at lvl 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50. every time you get a new level, the power of the powerset increases.
This way, its almost like an Epic power pool, designed for your powers or powerset, and since you premade them, it would be like you training to get shiny new powers.

i wonder if the new weapons customization is a nod in the direction of SigPows for a future issue?
makes me a little more hopeful for the possibility of seeing this actually make into the game.. next year at the soonest. (maybe the last issue of next year?)

I thought the same thing, we just got a step closer.
If the Devs have a problem with handing the power out to anyone as a temp, what about it going to only your Sidekick.
Love the idea.
I still hope this thread happens some day.
Though, with mixxing and matching IO sets...we're getting close to this.
Just going to need to find some way for those sets to change the auras and effects.

Whew... just finished reading this beast. Definitely signed.
Go Ultimus for getting this rolling. I gotta say, I think Ebon_Angel was dead-on with the point system.
I only had one suggestion about it (I don't know if Ebon is still going to be checking this thread, but I'm sure someone else will put in their $0.02): give the player 3 points at lvl 32 and one point per level after that. Getting one point when first being able to make the power means you get something that is all but worthless.
It also means you get 20 points total. And round numbers rock.
h heck...im bored so I will throw in some sg powers for a few of my characters.
Dark Ninjutsu - Dm/Reg scrapper - Void blast - five second/interruptible charge up animation of dark particles flying to my scrapper's fists, followed by HUGE beam of darkness (think blazing bolt but bigger and blacker) Range: PbAoE, beam doesnt go far. DMG: Extreme neg, knockdown, high neg DoT.
Bladewing Draconian - Kat/SR scrapper - Black Hole Blade - Bladewing's Katana turns black, and some rune symbols (like rune of warding but black) flash for a second. Then Bladewing does the Golden Dragonfly attack animation. Damage: extreme lethal/smashing, Dot Smashing. Foe slow

forgive me for not reading 60 pages of notes. But instead of getting points starting at 1 or whatever the base was, we could add more levels to CoX, with points starting there, and have it go up an extra like 15 levels. That would give people the extra levels and fun they have wanted (to use that those powers more that they didnt get until their forties), and at the end they have an uber signature power they could use. Ill make a thread with a bit better outlay (with even more levels for other things after) soon.
Fish..this is not the thread for that...GO AWAY AND TAKE THAT WITH YOU!

Theory:
One of the reasons the devs seem to be ignoring this topic is because people are putting forth impossible ideas for their own signature powers, which is...slightly intimidating, as if it DOES get done, people will be awash with disappointment over "I can't make such-and-such?".
I don't often /sign, unless I think there is a way that the Devs *might* be able to pull off if they like it. This seems possible, just requires lots of number crunching and balancing and all that. The Devs we have could possibly pull this off, and in a reasonable fashion that would only cause minor "DDDOOOOOOOMMM"ing. (Even if they wanted it would likely have to be "coming soon(tm)")

NCSoft will be getting no more of my money and my GW2 purchase was halted the day of the announcement. I'm a loyal and very profitable customer. I hope to return to giving them all of my money, should CoH survive.
