Extensive guides or quick, but to the point guides?

Gee, I update mine every new issue without having to be told. Then I post it in the Guides Forum. Then I post a link in the appropriate forum's Guide thread. Then that thread doesn't get updated for two issues.

Why don't you update your Guides, Lighthouse. We've been updating ours anyway.

Lighthouse,

The first thing you should do for the guides is break them up into subgroups a bit like Tankers, Blasters, Brutes, Binds, etc etc. So that way its a bit more ogranized and not clumped all together. Even with search it can be a pain to go through all the clutter of guides.

Not everyone does.

And I think this would be his way of saying that he is about to update the Guide Guide. I don't blame him for not wanting to jump in and do it - Cuppa was the last one to do it, I think, which means there are a LOT of "weeds' to trim, so to speak.

That's what we are doing. We totally agree that it sucks that things haven't been updated in a while. The Community Team will be digging in to bring them up to snuff!

So, we thought we'd let the community know we are going to be doing that.

Not everyones.

Exactly! That is what we are about The Guide Guide and all the sub Guide posts in each of the Archetype sections.

See links in my sig for The Performance Guide and the Consolidated ATI Settings Guide.

The Performance Guide shouldn't need any updating. The ATI Guide will be getting a rewrite soon due to all the changes from ATI and Cryptic.

Be well, people of CoH.

I've recently updated my Archery/Devices Blaster guide for Issue 8, the link can be found in my signature.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

I'll get to it. Its good to here those things are finally being updated. I wrote my guide at the beginning of i7 and it was never put in the stalker forums.

My guide is updated randomly, but is always up to date, because it SCOFFS at the thought of issues. See signature. I think mine's pretty useful to anyone who has any mez-type attack, or to anyone who has any power that deals damage to an enemy. Mwaha.

Must the guide be located on the forums themselves? We have a guide that the Livejournal community put together.. it's not very organized, but it's got a lot of good info. It's a very-very-beginner's guide.

If you wanted to be really spiffy, you'd translate all the guides into a less cumbersome and more user-friendly web-interface instead of forum links. You could even add pics to spice it up.

I have seen very few pvp guides so I wrote the one in my sig. Not sure if it's "guide" section worthy

I happen to like the guides that include builds based on the information. See for me the problem is what to pick when to optimize what my character will be capable of. I realize that movement and pool powers are optional, but the rest is extremely helpful and those builds have increased my enjoyment of certain AT's as well as the game in general.

My Katana/Ninjitsu Guide remains up to date due to the relative lack of changes in Issue 8. The link is in my sig.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

Well, I suppose there are a few things I can do to clean up the latest Mastermind Notes Guide (Its just a lot of work to run through.) Just a few questions though:

1) Is there a target "deadline" or target date to have these revised, refined, cleaned up, thread-condensed, or updated guides to ideally be done by?

2) When posting or submitting these revised, refined, or updated guides, is there something we need to do to denote that these guides are current, some place different we need to post to, or someone we need to send an email to to say "this guide is now current and up to date"?

3) What will happen to old guides, some which are hopelessly out of date, and may be misleading or irrelevant due to changes invoked by patch updates or changes brought into effect by Issue releases?

4) What about some of the older, but still relevent guides and guide threads that are so old that the original writer is a white-name "Anonymous", "The Incomplete and Unofficial Guide to /bind (1.1)", a popular guide thread with over 100,000 views? It has no "owner", and is quite lengthy. Tackling an update to that would be a project, in and of itself.

5) Will any of the old guides be deleted or archived into a seperate section?

I'll shiny it up for I8, since there are blaster power changes to address. I just hate having to reformat the entire bugged without being able to use EDIT

I keep an off-line copy of my guide in a word processor, which I edit, then use a preview post without submitting the post to see how it will look on the forum using copy and paste. Any changes I make I make to the offline copy and then repaste and see what difference it makes. Its the only way I find to tackle such large and important posts without greatly screwing anything up and have it posted for eternity.

In my last guide, I broke it up and posted it into sections and then quickly went back and edited links in the index so people could navigate the guide better due to its long length.
