Disappointment in the Update Schedule

Ok I'll shuddup now: I wouldn't *bother* to make posts of this sort if it hadn't been a problem more than once. Likely I haven't made a bit of difference, but it's my nature to try anyway!

You'd have likely make more of an impression in a thread that was actually having notable "ZOMG!" problems. Lecturing in several posts about constructive criticism in a thread where constructive criticism is very well represented (but whose topic is NOT constructive criticism) seems odd. Just my take on things.
The bumps were nice, though.

Oh ya, I went there, furries.
Also, I now summon Positron to speak to thee on updates.
BIM BOM BAM POSI-GO!
Hey guys, our plan is to get you new Issues three times a year. Issue 7 was bigger than originally planned (Mayhem Missions got thrown into the issue at the last possible second) and that, coupled with other delays, screwed up the schedule for 2006, thus only 2 free content expansions on the Live servers this year.
2007 has three Issues planned for it, one near Q1/Q2, one for the summer, and one for the end of the year. I can't give more exact dates than that because everything is subject to change.

OK, then. January 1st, June 21st and December 31st. We'll be waiting with complaints at the ready should any of these dates slip!
Matt, you're awesome. Thanks!!!
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
I8 is up!!!

I remember the days when it was "4-6 new issues a year". I'm doing the math on the original "2-3 months per issue" that we had at the beginning.
In the meantime, we've had massive staff cutbacks. A shame, that coincidence.

Mwahaha, my evil plan has worked, and Positron has finally commented on my thread.
Hey, thanks for the update.
Keep in mind, it isn't just about how many issues you roll out, but what's in them.

I don't believe that this didn't impact coh. We know for a fact that many who work on coh have moved to other NCsoft games, because they were regular posters to the forums. Just the ones we know about are enough, and we don't know all the behind the scenes folk who got moved.

Again, all those people that moved around are NCSoft Staff. They have nothing to do with Cryptic. They're the publisher. As for Cryptic, only a very, very small percentage of the Devs (Cryptic employees that actually make the game) post. The very vast majority don't.

Umm... near Q1/Q2 would be near the end of April/beginning of May, and the second one will more likely be in August not June. That's if you use every 4 months as a rule.
You may want to adjust your complaint calendar a bit.

Posi, is that Northern Hemisphere summer?
Because it is almost summer in Australia. And that would mean we could leap frog to Issue 10 in a few weeks.

In any case, the updates have slowed dramatically, which was the point actually. Whatever caused the slowdown, we may not know. But it is true that there was a major cutback in NCSoft personel, and the end user never knows all the unsavory things that go on behind closed doors, and the company always spins things positively regardless of the truth.(any company, not just this one) Cuts at NCsoft? No cuts at Cryptic at all? (Where's Geko, for example? I remember this being asked before, I think the answer was he's on another NCSoft game)

Cuts at NCsoft? No cuts at Cryptic at all?
[/ QUOTE ]
If my ISP cuts staff, does that mean layoffs at Yahoo? The fortunes of one company are not tied to the other in such a fashion. It's entirely possible, for example, for NCsoft to cut staff and Cryptic to increase staffing. NCsoft creates/publishes more than just CoX. Cuts and consolidation could cover those areas. Cryptic does CoX but they've other games in the work as well, which may or may not be published by NCsoft. They're distinct companies, not even located in the same part of the world. What happens in one is not indicative of what happens in the other.

Geko went got a different job somewhere else (not within NCSoft). There's turn over in any company. People come and people go. And just because the new people choose not to be active on the boards does not mean they don't exist.
Also, the reason for the slower updates is apparent when you look at the size of the updates compared to what has been released in the passed. They're bigger because it's more efficient to release bigger updates. Meaning, the 3 updates per year will have more content then if they did it with 3 updates. Also, the content that you get now is "harder" to produce then content before. We're getting more and more features that were not handled by the game engine. Where as before, it was all low hanging fruit.

edit: I'm sure this thread will fall by the wayside soon, considering I8 should be going Live this week or next, and it seems even odder to critique the update schedule with a brand new update hot out of the oven, but there was good stuff earlier on nonetheless. I'm sure this will come up again.
