Don't even get me started. My son's life is wrestling (if Chris Sabin and I were hanging off a cliff, and he could only save one of us...well, hail Sabin), so we have these long talks about the nature of the business. He's much more a "cutting edge" and "breaking kayfabe" and "pushing the envelope" kind of fan, whereas I'm much more a wrestling traditionalist who thinks it can only take so much messing with the formula before it crumbles before your eyes.

He gives Russo credit for the successes he's had, but then blames the failures largely on other folks. Sigh...

Darn kids and your "islands". In MY deeeee, we didn't have no "Periginas" or "leve 50's". We had Perez Park! That's all we had and we liked it![/cranky old man]

[cranky dilusional old man]
That's right! And we didn't have any travel powers, either. We had to WALK to get to Perez Park, and it was fifffteeeeen miles in the snow! And when we got there, there were only three villains. And we all had to take turns. You spent six months there and you were lucky if you got high enough to start a Super Group. That's the way it were AND WE LIKED IT! [/cranky dilusional old man]

While I'm fond of Sabin, that's a bit extreme. Now, if it were Ultimo Dragon...

Russo has had successes? I mean, yeah, the Attitude thing, but that was equally as much Vince McMahon as Russo. And he's pretty much fallen flat on his face ever since then.

I dunno. I keep thinking I should see about getting work with one of the feds, since I know I could book this stuff so much better than a lot of the folks who have done so (Dutch Mantel?). I sure as heck know I could write better stuff...

The idea has occured to me a few times, too. But I enjoy being a fan too much. It'd suck to have it be my job and enjoy the shows less as a result. Besides, TNA would be my only option, as my first act as a booker for WWE would be to send Cena back to OVW.

I'm hoping Cena will follow the Rock's path to the movies, and then we can just avoid his films until he becomes too minor to even continue making them (and then the Rock can come back and take Cena's place... ).

Sadly, Rocky doesn't seem interested. Though Jeff keeps trying to get him to come to TNA for a match with Sting.

I remember when people were complaining about there being no capes...and then a few months later Rularu invading the city. Seeing some green/blue mob of mixed Rularru in Brickstown while we were killing yellow/oranges. We thought we'll try our hand at them, I mean they couldn't be that tough right? We were crushed in mere seconds by them, after which we went back to hunting the much easier Yellow/Orange 5th Column and Crey. Also I remember when the Respec trial was harder.

Not sure if you've heard, but Russo, a VERY different man than he once was (he apparently became a Christian and wrote a book about how much he regrets the smut angles he put together), is returning to TNA.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Burning Tanks on fire off the shoulder of Brickstown. I watched Smoke Grenades glitter in the dark near the Crey's Folly gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I didn't find it useless, but I did find that I had to really think about it's use. Then, I had to position myself in the right place before activating Unyielding. Now, I fire it up and go charging into battle.

We like to pretend this isn't happening. Well, other than the Russo freaks, who prattle on about the man as though he were the Second Comming.

I liked that animation. Like you said, it went with Flurry, and both of them fit my speedster perfectly.
Okay, so maybe it wasn't the most efficient in terms of DPS. But it was perfect for the superhero that I wanted to play. Someone who could punch and kick you a dozen times before you finished falling down.

... besides, today I'd slot it 3 Acc, 3 Dam, and never miss.

I agree. My MA Scrapper actually got deleted when they changed that power. I *wanted* the dozen kicks for the appearance. Like you said, it was very in-theme for a Flash-like character. When they changed it, I ended up with Flurry being the only "speedy" attack I had, and it just didn't seem right. So the character died.

I remember going to log into the old forums and finding them gone.. and swearing off the even remote idea of ever posting something again. Eventualy I came to my senses, but it took awhile. There were some realy good stories and alot of usefull info in them at the time, and they just went *poof* for the live forums. Even though that info is all waaaaaay out of date now, it still bugs me they did that. lol

I remember standing in Atlas park talking to some friends who no longer play when the portals started opening, and the rikti poured out, and through, and over us. The huge fight with them in the Atlas city hall building.. soooo many heros piled up, bodies on the floor everywhere, people yelling 'kill the ...' lol

I remember when a scrapper couldn't buy a team, regardless of build, and when blasters where gods gift to CoH. City of Blasters.. When Invuln became mobile. When capes were just a pipe dream alot of us thought would never, ever, realy happen. Yeah.. street sweeping in perez and later boomtown. When all you had to do to get a team in either place was zone in.. when you had 14 instances of AP to choose from, or 12 instances of KR.

I remember Aeon 1.0 with hover (yeah, it sounded like a good idea back then.. lol) and hunting CoT across the rooftops of KR at hover speed.

I remember when Hollows opened, and within 2-3hours hating it almost as much as the 'trails' in perez..

I miss street hunting, I miss sweeper teams in perez or boomtown, I miss the hydra hunts.. I miss the time when my invuln tanker actualy felt invuln, when the road to 50 was long and hard for my kat/reg scrapper because no one ever wanted scrappers on their teams.. when all I had to do was log on my blaster or one of the tankers and I had a team within 2-3 minutes..

When we believed City of Villans would come out sometime around the time they implimented capes.. meaning never. I remember the countless requests for things like spears.. pistols.. sheilds.. trenchcoats.. wings.. non-supersoaker 2000 guns for our AR blasters..

sigh.. the good old days.

Aeon

Yeah.. I've been here on and off for that long, regardless of what my joining date says.

I remember when the "casual players" were angry because they were only giving capes to you if you were level 20. I remember when "casual players" were angry because all the content for a while was aimed at the level 35+ range.

I remember this...because I was one of those people

And the whole new rage was a place called "Paragon City Dance Party" You bet.. but the Ritki Invasion at the end of BETA will forever be etched in my mind.... as well as locking in the name for my Hero so that when the game went live, Id create her exactly as I wanted.. and for the record.. Fire Tankers ARE STILL GODS.... ok.. lesser gods maybe, but still awesome after all this time.

I miss Paragon Dance Party. Sure, Pocket D is a massive impovement, but that had its little charm.

But remember when Giant Monsters had levels? In the last few days before that came about we all went hunting around with our high levels to lay out the seriuos smackdown on Grey-ed Kraken, Babbage and the rest...

And let's not forget the "PL PLZ" on broadcast from L1's in PI. Those were the days!

Reading this thread brings back some memories. The hunting teams in Perez, watching the entire zone show up to beat on the poor old level 15 was it? Kraken. There actually being people in KR and Boom. Running around Atlas wondering why there were so many level 50 Fire/Dev blasters and what made them so damn uber(I joined after the Smoke Grenade fix) and peeking into scary, scary places like Brickstown at level 15. I really miss the sense of wonder I had at the time. Hearing zone names like Steel Canyon, Indepence Port and Talos Island and trying to imagine what I would find there once I was actually high enough. Going into a hazard zone for the first time and seeing the absolutely HUGE spawns. Being a level 24 invul/SS tank and doing the Sister Psych TF. Seeing the mass of level 28 Freaks in the first mission, taking a deep breath and diving in, and then walking out.

Hey who was that guy that had a TF tied to Psych? The one that dealt with that crazy Malaise? I miss that TF. Damn, doing the Positron TF for the first time and calling the devs every sort of name I could think of throughout it, and then finishing it with only 3 people at some ungodly hour. As I'm typing this I see the old manual sitting on my desk. If you still have yours crack it open and give it a read. Some great stuff in there that reminds just how much this game has changed, and how much in the manual was wrong even back then. I suppose the one thing I miss the most about the good old days was the newness of it all, getting and using new powers, watching high levels obliterate some wayward ambush and craving that power. Now, well, maybe it's time for a break. After a little over two years the shine has worn off a bit. I still love the game, but damn what I wouldn't do to get that new MMO smell again.

Another favorite. Disorient after casting Adreniline Boost.

Those were the good old days, when the powers that sucked really sucked and the powers that were good turned you into a god. There wasn't any of this "non-standard but still effective" character builds. You could either handle everything yourself, or wallow in the muck of total ineffectivness.

I remember trying to get used to the background colours to the CoH Beta Forums and the current Forums. I kind of miss the black/grey backgrounds of the posts, though it was a gamble of which colour text to use to better show up on the background (esp. when so many would post while you are typing up a message).

I remember not being afraid to use the melee powers for blasters and being yelled at for actually using them (before the damage for the blaster melee was boosted).

At one time blasters were going to be able to have melee weapons (the martial weapon set looked cool, with the katana, and all that), but having support powers for the ranged aspect of blasters came into play.

There was a time when people would pick defenders over blasters because their ranged attacks did as much as blasters, had more hit points, and could heal (mind you it was a time when everybody thought all defender power sets had some kind of heal and rez....).

Controllers were picked over defenders because their buffs/debuffs were just as powerful as the defenders (from what I've heard, the difference now isn't as much as some people would like), and controllers had their control powers too boot (and it was a time when as long as you had Hasten you could summon multiple pets, including lots of Fire Imps).

Did they shrink down the Kraken? I seem to remember him being a lot larger before they made the Sewer Trial.... It's a lot harder to tell the difference between him and the other Hydras now, besides the purple when you target him.

I remember when they decided to boost the number of Hellions in Atlas and Galaxy City due to the huge numbers of players in those zones at the time.

I miss the April Fool's event during Beta where titles were changed (I remember seeing one with at title that referenced to Micheal Jackson..., the guy who had it was rather embarassed) and there were tonnes of Contaminated from Outbreak running around Atlas.

I remember deleting so many characters because I realized I made a mistake in the power/enhancement selections and there was no way to change it like they do nowadays (respec).

I remember when it was being said that respecs would allow you to change your powersets, and not just your powers (mind you, you still wouldn't be able to change your AT, but that's the same as it is now anyways)....

Good times man

Edit: Heck, I remember seeing someone using Tornado and Lightning Storm for the first time and I was like, "MUST HAVE!"...and well..now I have my lvl 50 Storm/Psy. Defender

I remember taking down the Kraken in Perez by myself with my Kin/Rad...I was just in Perez one day and never heard about the Kraken and saw the big monster and was like, "oooo"...took him down (he was blue conned to me I think)....took screenshots and still have those pictures as well...

I really do miss teaming with lots of people in Perez...never really did Faultline that much though...Boomtown yes, Faultline I did once I think.
