Yeah, then it was "Where are the lost in Kings Row?" Now I don't know what it is people ask for in KR.

The Hollows more or less killed broadcast chatter in KR in my experience.

i remember when Invoul got immobile when you activated the anti knockdown power, it was so useless

andi loved starting new chars, get them to perez, and get a hydra farming team, but before doing that, you had to get on a team that sweeped the streets, so you were the right level, there were several teams fighing about the spawns on the roads, even inside the park, and several hydra teams running, things were fun then, before the hollows, where all you do now is repeatedly do the frostfire mish, back when you coulden't skip outbreak, and you actually could get a team in atlas or galaxy park to level up to perez levels (7) badges wasen't added yet either.

I remember back in my day we expressed our love physically...which was the style at the time.

This a great story and example of why us Vets deserve rewards, and you people* don't.

*you people being the term non-vets will be refered to from now on.

Hmmmmmmm..... Really? What constitutes a Vet The_Jerk? I have only been here 6 months or so [well not quite 6 months ] so in your translation I am not a vet and do not deserve awards? I WANT ME MAH REWARDS! <insert overused line about being just as valuable here>*

*Note, anyone who takes the above paragraph to be serious needs to get their head examined.

I won't bring any debate about VR into this whole thing I like most of yall who are vets of the game [Being a RL Vet is a much different prospect, so I can cal most of the people on the boards "You People" according to The_Jerk's terminology ]

I actually enjoy street hunting and skipping the hollows [I do enjoy the Hollows now and then though] and I enjoy finding new parts of KR that I haven't seen yet. It took me a while to find the bloody Lost in KR but I stuck to my guns and won the day. [Well, sort of... not really the day... but the mission at least]

I truly feel old; not cause of the game though

You know it is a shame that some folks will never get to see the wonder and awe of seeing a single tank herding dozens of spawns of enemies into one massive pile. I remember the first time i was on a ninjas farming mission and I saw this whole army of ninjas come running across the map into the tanker who had just ran around the map to grab as much aggro as possible. The sight of a 50+ NPC pile up which was so dense that you'd bearly see the tanker in the middle of it all was incredible.

Then of course you had my regen scrapper with his perma instant healing slotted 2 end 4 endurance fighting with something like 30 even con enemies at once and his health was bearly moving. Good days for epic battles but it was all just too easy, visually stunning but far far too easy.

Or the incredible tedium of laying out a full spread of trip mines in that dumpster...watching one blaster and one tanker earning the experience for six other people who stood around doing nothing.

Ah yes, the good old days, when you watched someone else play their toon...and paid money to do it!

Actualy i still see some tanks and scrappers trying to heard a entire mapp... they usualy does not survive the experince. Stll.. fun to watch.

You know, I actually do feel like an old man by now. I've seen and done so many things that the new players haven't even heard of, let alone done. Hydra in Perez Park is a good example, yes. A time before respec, costume alterations, capes, back when Elude was a toggle and Blaster nukes left you end drained AND disoriented

[/ QUOTE ]

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Burning Tanks on fire off the shoulder of Brickstown. I watched Smoke Grenades glitter in the dark near the Crey's Folly gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

These were the days when tankers were considered gimp if they couldn't herd over 100 enemies, when ice armor could only have one toggle on at a time which was the same as rock armor with the exception that rock armor made it look liek you were encased in poo and fire tankers were considered gods.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nah, fire tankers weren't considered gods until I3. Back in I2 (the days of Mr. Hanky stone tankers, and teletanking invulnerability tankers) fire had ultra goofy status protection, and the builds had even less flexbility than nowadays (jumping pool, presense pool, fighting pool, health pool, do not deviate or you suck). You had to have healing flames on auto-fire or you'd get stunned, and you had to pre-burn to resist holds and sleeps. If you had holds stacked up on you when you hit burn again, the status protection had a gap, and you'd drop all your toggles. I collected quite the number of empaths on my friends list just for clear mind. This was the reason fire tankers stuck to fighting sky raiders and then nemesis. All they use is stuns, and that was your only good status protection.

Also back then ice armor's real issue was the lack of sleep protection in wet ice. They didn't need stacking armor after level 26 since energy absorption gave 14% defense per mob in range without enhancement.

Too many alts to list.

I teamed with an Ice tank a while back that was herding a lot... he did pretty well at it, actually, but then got overconfident and tried to herd a whole room full of oranges and reds. that didn't go so well.

One memory springs to mind.

Phase Shift + Burn

<sigh> The good old days.

Let's not forget London, Puffyshirt, and Icarus_Factor.

And Kraken Farming in the Sewer Trail.

And the numerous Hazard zone street hunting teams, particularly the late teens in Boomtown.

How about wide open mission floors (ie no doors inside missions)?

Ah, the memories...

Behemoth portal missions. I only ever went on one, but the experience of myself and my teammates fighting off a never-ending stream of howling demons for two hours straight will never be forgotten. (Sure, I know you *could* still do this today, but now that they don't give experience, no one wants to)

When outdoor instance missions were first introduced.

Logging in that first day and finding half a dozen instances of Atlas Park, with hundreds of heroes running around. The local crime in Atlas has never been so scarce as that first day.

Being able to solo the Kracken in Perez Park with my Emp/Psi defender, before they put in the giant monster patch.

Racing around Perez with said defender, and finding lots of groups of heroes to randomly heal and buff. Doing an ambulance run, we called it. Perez is so quiet these days...

If you get to play the cranky old man after a year and a half, what does that make those of us who have a year on you?

[/ QUOTE ]

Hehe, Amber

I actually have been here since November of '04 though. I was still skipping back and forth between this game and SW:G. I found that I really liked it here much more.

I didn't really ever hit the forums for quite some time. I think my first character was in his late 30's maybe early forties when I knew I needed advice on how to build and slot and such. I found a really great guide on DM/REG here and followed it to the letter. I think I still have that printout someplace.

Besides that stuff, I do recall people were still doing lots of stuff in Perez. I also remember one or two of my them SG mates setting up the Kraken teams in the ASN. I thought it was really fun doing that, even though the XP gain was insane per hatchling, at least we all were fighting and not standing by the door. If I ever came across one of those teams herding something or dumpster diving, I bailed. Not fun.

Eh.. I guess my intention of my OP was a shout to all the newer people to just enjoy themselves now. We had our ups and downs then, just like they are now. It's all about the good times.

Oh yeah, final thought, I hated the Hollows real quick even back then. Haha.

What are you still doin' here?? I say get offa my lawn!!

But then, I also dig the Hollows. I used to hate them because of the danger, but once you learn what you're doing, you can take the squishiest character and get them from one side to the other unscathed.

Darn kids and your "islands". In MY deeeee, we didn't have no "Periginas" or "leve 50's". We had Perez Park! That's all we had and we liked it![/cranky old man]

[cranky dilusional old man]
That's right! And we didn't have any travel powers, either. We had to WALK to get to Perez Park, and it was fifffteeeeen miles in the snow! And when we got there, there were only three villains. And we all had to take turns. You spent six months there and you were lucky if you got high enough to start a Super Group. That's the way it were AND WE LIKED IT! [/cranky dilusional old man]

NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!
