"Toons"... are we playing Loony Toons?

From now on, I'm going to use the term wordhumper to refer to you. It's not derogatory, so you can't object. It means, "Person who loves words".
[/ QUOTE ]
I can object. It is impolite in most conversations to call someone by other then their normal name. No one calls me that so you are trying to rename me. That is rude and can be argued even derogatory.
In comparison the word "Toon" to the general public is considered not derogatory and not rude. It is a word commonly used even by the die hard fans of the very group who it applies to.

But if you relabel my character a toon, that devalues my hard work.
[/ QUOTE ]
If it's hard work you're playing the wrong game- or not getting paid enough.

You know, I haven't seen anyone make it a *moral* argument.
Mind you, the fact that knowing people find it annoying makes you want to do it more makes doing it, in your case, at the very least a selfish, disruptive act, and at most a moral one (if you believe being maliciously selfish to be immoral).

Ya, kinda dug myself a hole there.
After re reading it, I'm not sure what I was saying either. Reading about how people get so annoyed with other people's attitudes annoyes me.
Which makes a me a hypothetical son of a woman who was not married to the man which is the biological father (why is that ok and not the B word?).
But at least im honest about my hypocrisy.
It ill behooves the more intelligent and mature minded side of this discussion to continue to argue the point with those who use the word tune .............................
If we keep this going long enough, Apple will make it easy to download characters from iToons.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Wanna tune my mish with your toon?
Mish is another thing that annoys me.

It was only a dead horse to the older forumites
In the forums, horses are like the Freakshow. No matter how much of a beating they take, they heal at 25% and sometimes rez.

Been calling my little animated alter egos toons since EverQuest all those years ago, and the word mob (to me) means a single enemy for that matter, since it was the abbreviation for "mobile object" from the old MuD days. To all the younger players these days it has it's meaning as a mob of bad guys. I can't see that it's all that important who says what though, since this isn't exactly rocket science we're dealing with here. It's a game... lighten up... have fun for crying out loud.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually you have it the wrong way around MoB is a much younger term than mob of bad guys in the RPG world. But of course you talking about the really young people who were born with cell phones in their hands .

I use both characters and toons to refer to my heroes and villains. I think the term toons comes from the fact that most superheroes are cartoon/comic book characters so it is easy to say toon in that instance. I do not think it is all that big of a deal.

Update: I said upthread that I'd caught myself using 'toon' a few times just through linguistic osmosis. I'm proud to say that after reading this thread and realizing I liked the term 'guy' much better, I've made a few posts using 'guy' without thinking about it.
I guess the acid test will be whether I can get over the gender disconnect and use 'guy' to refer to a female character ...
I use 'guy' to refer to female characters all the time.
Leftover from the 'extra guy' era of gaming.

EXACTLY. I just need to get over my politically correct guilt - other than that, it's a term with no drawbacks! Heck, it's even easier to type than 'toon'!
So, I guess then that the "guys" have it?
I call 'em toons because we're supposed to be superheroes and ... well superheroes live in comic books and cartoons on tv ... very toony in my opinion.
ps ... it's Looney TUNES, not toons...
Originally, but they did adopt the toon moniker in later shows. "We're tiny, we're toony, we're all a little loony, and in this cartoony we're invading your TV..."
I play dumb when someone uses the word 'toon'.
Them: "How many toons do you have?"
Me: "I have no idea what you're asking me. But I have over 100 characters."
Also when they refer to an individual enemy as a 'mob', I make reference to that being a group of enemies.
Them: "I can take two or three mobs solo."
Me: "Wow! Four to fifteen thugs all by yourself? I'd like to see that."
I've not heard of people referring to an individual baddy as a "mob"... that's a new one to me
Apparently it's a throwback to some M.U.D. slang. Short for "Mobile OBject". Bulls and an ox to that, I say!

Wiki!
Oh I've heard of the term mob before, just never to refer to a single baddy.
Yep. Mob for a single baddie and mobs for a group.
Nuh unh!
