Official Thread: Good Vs. Evil Edition
...actually having the game carried in wallyworld is/was a good idea. the bad part was making it exclusive...the current situation being only one small reason why it was a bad idea.~

I called the Walmart corporate headquarters, yes... geek alert, and they said that most exclusive items are usually heavily advertised before releasing them. They said they have no specific information around the game, but seeing as it is not in their circulars/adverts that they are probably waiting so they can push the game with more advertising.
Since the Hero boom has returned this year (with Superman and Heroes on NBC) they must be waiting so they can push it, bigtime.
Hmmm.... wonder if we'll see an advert for it during Heroes?
I doubt it. But every now and then I see those Walmat Exclusive CD's (like Tim McGraw, Aerosmith, etc.) commericals on primetime programming.
pohsyb: so of all people you must be most excited about the veats
Arachnos Commander: actually, I am
pohsyb: I mean you kinda were one already anyways ^_^

I really have to question the wisdom of this Wal Mart exclusivity deal. Aside from the complete screw up that the release has been, I don't think this was a smart decision. How likely is your average Wal Mart customer to play MMOs? I would submit that they are far, far, less likely to be into MMOs than people who shop in places like EB Games and the like. Just because Wal Mart has a wide reach, I don't think its really going to reach the sort of audience that is interested in MMOs.

Agreed.
Going with the usual distribution to all retailers (Best Buy, EB, etc.) would likely have gotten the game into a lot more new players' hands. Wal Mart is a big retailer but apart from "soft" titles like The Sims, how much do they sell to the more hardcore MMO player? I've never bought a game there, myself.

I call shenanigans on that response from corporate. NCSoft/Cryptic has been announcing that you can "BUY NOW" from Wal-Mart--and that was two days ago. The boxes should have been in the stores on Sept. 29th. It's that simple. Highly ironic, methinks, because Wal-Mart's policy is that incoming shipments have to hit the store loading docs no more than 30 seconds after the scheduled delivery time, or else the delivery isn't accepted and no payment is made.
If only they'd apply the same rule to themselves when getting product to customers.
I'm writing them now.
Ok now don't blast me into a million pieces if this has already been covered (I just got back to the forums after a long absence) but how does a person buy the good vs. evil special stuff? I mean they talk about just paying $10 to get the new stuff if you already have COH/COV but I cant figure out how to do it.
Ive tried clicking the link on the GvE page that takes me to the NCsoft Account page but I cant find any where to pay for/activate all the new goodies.
Am I missing something here or have they just not got that stuff up and running yet?
You can't buy the code on line until the 6th.
(Which at the rate things are going will be sooner than you can buy the box at Wal*mart.)
Plus, Walmart.com pulled the Good vs Evil from the search results, but the link still exists... hmmm...

Killeen, TX- 2 Walmarts in area, neither have nor anticipate getting GvE.
Okay now I'm not against Walmart and Cryptic but umm
Since Walmart has not only already supposedly run out of stock, and has gone even further to remove all mention of Good Versus Evil from their online site.........
I REALLY think it might be time to pull the ad on the main page saying "Available Now" down.
Good Versus Evil is an exclusive item at Walmart and I'd say at this point it's pretty obvious they aren't selling it for now. This said, I really think it makes you look like a liar to continue to display that this pack is available. Oh and please post a message about what this means for those still wanting to buy.
A wise man knows...
He knows nothing and stays silent.
A fool thinks he knows everything...
And proves he's wrong loudly.
ermmm...its still there.
GvE on WallyWorld Website : sold out
thought I might nip that one right off. so while it is still on the site...it's still unavailable for purchase.~

Its there via the link, but if you go to Wal*mart.com and search for it, it doesn't come up. But you may be unable to pull up anything that's out of stock via search. I don't know, this was the first time I'd ever gone to Wal*mart's site.
So, more than likely, we'll maybe see them on shelves this Tuesday and folks that ordered online might get them between Tuesday and Friday. Hopefully, they'll have the actual codes working by then. There's been some saying that they can't update their accounts with the boxed editions they bought. (God bless em for finding the boxes)
Has anyone actually seen anyone with the jump pack or the new costume pieces ingame yet?

Wal-Mart is where I bought my original CoH...
Yay! I just checked my order status and its already been delivered to my house... now the rest of the work day is really going to drag on..
Hahahaha! Now THAT is funny. I really am not being sarcastic. It's exclusive to one retailer in order for Wal-Mart to make money off of it for a week. BUT that retailer is out of it. Ahhh... the irony. So glad I decided to wait lol. I bet [GM]Dave would have no end of fun with this one.
/rant on
You're the exclusive provider of software and you run out already? WalMart! How I hate thee: You're isle full of fat people in carts and screaming kids, country folk walking aimlessly and large women in spandex. Now I must hate you for not keeping a game in-stock long enough to buy it from your store or order it online.
Walmart, go back to underpaying your employees and leave the selling of games to people that care.

Same here. Want to have a jump jet race tonight?
Walmart is the worst, most vile chain of slave labor on the planet. I'm not a hippie, I don't push the belief in unions and frankly I don't care about Jimmy Chang in China slaving away at a Walmart factory with disentary 6 days of the week for 27 dollars. I don't care about them polluting rivers, eliminating the "mom & pop" business's across this country. I don't care about the fact that the majority of people running the company are souless undertakers to the poor, beaten down and overworked few who service their poorly organized shelves in defeated neighborhoods.
What I DO care about is the fact that they commit all these crimes against the world...and still can't manage to have some haggard wage slave drag a box out to the grubby floor of their poorly designed racket and peg the box of software at me.
That's all I ask; lance it off my skull on time at least.
I know many, many people, including myself, were disappointed this past weekend with not being able to get the special new items because of this Walmart fiasco. As a consolation prize, we got to test the Halloween event some more on the test server. And I just want to remind everyone that plays both this game and World of Warcraft that the Harvest Festival in Azeroth begins October 3rd and runs until October 9th. Maybe spending some time in Azeroth this week will be a balm for our weary spirits after searching Walmart after Walmart for a nonexistent prize. I would have rather been hunting Nightstalker Moonfangs this weekend than enduring THAT!
It's like you're talking in a different language.
You think as huge as a SUPER Walmart is, that they would be able to keep a few on the self. The website being out make no sense to me, How many boxes could have been ordered? 170k and thats if every active account got one. Heck even if you dont have them in-stock, you can give me the option to put an orer in. That way I feel like some day I may just get it in the mail, like a Christmas gift since that about the time I will get it.
Another thing! Stop having the old people hound me with carts and try to greet me. I dont like talking to random old people who will tell me how they "walked up hill both ways too school" and had to pee in a chamber pot.
Sorry! to all of you who have had to pee in a chamber pot or walk up hill both ways, I just wanted to get the game today and it wasnt in either Walmarts or online.
I would greatly appreciate someone from NC updating us on this debacle; it's just as simple as someone making a call to marketing and asking what the frag is going on...
That would require an intelligence SO and as far as I know, they don't exist.

Well, uh, good for you I guess. But the point is not that no one ever buys an MMORPG from Walmart, but that people are far more likely to buy MMOs from game stores.
I mean, the Walmart I went into had a game section that was dominated by Barbie and Dora The Explorer games. Somehow, I think they're aiming at a different demographic than EB and the like.

I would imagine it was more of a decision based on reaching the largest number of customers while supplying the smallest number of channels. Walmart fits that to a tee. Aside from the fact that there are no Walmarts in New York City. And aside from the fact that a lot of people hate Walmart. But other than that, it should have been an excellent business decision!
