Here's what I had from back when, but I don't know where the original post about it is:
Levels 10-25: Fairy Wings, Insect Wings
Levels 26-40: Burned Wings, Draconic Wings
Levels 41-50: Bat Wings, Bone Wings, Cherubic Wings, Tech Wings
[/ QUOTE ]
Man.......that .......blows........
I've gotten 2 costume drops from scanner missions- nothing really good from street sweeping, so my hopes of getting lucky in Bloody Bay or Sirens Calll doesn't hold up hope....grrrrrrrrrr
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately I haven't been able to confirm or refute those level ranges. They could be outdated.
[/ QUOTE ]
The salvage so far has fallen in line with that. (I've been keeping track as people post what salvage you use for what costume pieces on Paragonwiki. Just doing my bit for my SG.) Fairy and insect wings use 4-25 salvage, burned 20-40, and bone 35-50. -

1b) Sidekick / Exemplar / Lackey / Malefactor System: Mien Gott! How should I forget this when I assembled my original list. I first noticed this feature when it wasn't in a ridiculously popular fantasy MMO. When two of your friends have lv 40 whatevers on a server and you want to join them, not having a sk system makes for some very awkward grouping.
[/ QUOTE ]
I love the Exemplar/Malefactor, but honestly to me, SK/Lackey feels like cheating. I like to earn my way into the game. It annoys me a bit to play on a team with a level 20 going to fight Tyrant. That mission was once the pinnacle of the game. IMO it cheapens it to have that experience at low levels.
The social aspect would be covered by Exemplar/Malefactor.
[/ QUOTE ]
Only if they let one person Exemplar/Malefactor multiple people. The way it stands, if one has a lower level character and wants to play with friends (more than one) who have higher level character being sidekicked/lackied up is the only option. My guess is that they made it go both ways to accommodate single people who don't match the group they want to play with. And, while it may be a view at game content you wouldn't otherwise get at your native level, I'm not sure how it feels like cheating to you...if anything it's more difficult for a sidekick or lackey than their mentors as they don't have the number of powers they will when they do get to that level. -
I can't say this game is perfect, as I do get bored with kill X missions, especially when my contact decides I need to do two in a row.
"Wha? Couldn't you have just had me kill 2X of them in the first place!?" /e throttle_contact
And I do wish there were more types of missions.
However... This game is fairly straightforward - a bit lacking in documentation at times, but the boards and Paragonwiki, and the fact that things are mostly fairly simple makes up for it. It is also fun. And the fact that it is straightforward, fun, and has an amazing character creation set up is why a person who is only vaguely interested in superheroes is playing a superhero game.
Now, my MMO loving friends who have played pretty much ever game out there and are still trying to get me to try "that other MMO" may eventually succeed...but I won't be leaving CoX to do so. And, as beating up on assorted groups of bad guys (or good guys if playing a villain) is more satisfying than beating up forest animals, I may not stick with "that other MMO" even if I do try it.
I guess what I'm trying to say is this: Flaws aside, a game that convinces a non-computer-gamer who is neither here nor there about the gameworld's basic premise to play it...and keep doing so for 9 months has to be doing something right. -

And an interesting addition McKenzie - the Bible is one of the most violent books ever written... I wonder how many of the bible-thumpers politicos have actually read it in it's entirety...
To be sure, some valuable messages there tho'!
[/ QUOTE ]
Read it? They'd rather thump it, or thump people with it, I'm not sure which. Though I did always get a kick out of seeing it on the banned books list, back when I worked in a book store. You've got to wonder about anyone who wants their own faith's holy book banned. Though that goes clear back to the invention of the printing press and the banning of the bible in English.
Eh, I think it's a bit like food: everything's bad for you, but not eating is really bad for you. -

From what I've seen, it's gone like this.
ZOMG! Radio Plays will ruin our children! They'll try to act out what they hear! BAN IT! Think of the children!
and that didn't work. So
ZOMG! Comic Books will ruin our children! They'll try to act out what they read! BAN IT! Please think of the children!
THAT didn't work. So
ZOMG! MOVIES will ruin our children! They'll try to act out what they watch! BAN IT! Will you PLEASE think of the children!?
Again, it didn't work. So
ZOMG! Dungens & Dragons will ruin our children! They'll try to act out what the RP! BAN IT! Will you *PLEASE* think of the children already?!
Again, same reaction. (You seeing a pattern here?) So
ZOMG! Rock and Roll will ruin our children! They'll act out what they're hearing! THINK OF THE CHILDREN ALREADY!
Once again, Head On: applied directly to your forehead. So
ZOMG! Video Games will ruin our children! They'll act out what they do in the games! BAN IT! Why won't you think of the children?!
It ain't working, and I'm quite sure it won't work in the end. We still have comic books, rock and roll, radio plays (though those aren't as big as they used to), movies and all that.
Granted, when the government actually does get involved and tries to ban games, we all jump on their backs and make them remember that They work for Us and we can make sure They no longer do and we find someone Else to work for Us.

Don't forget books...or the bible printed in English...
If someone hasn't done a cartoon featuring cavemen petitioning against cave paintings because they're bad for the children, someone really should. -

I'm extremely disappointed that an image of Statesman would be used in such a way. I know that we designed City of Heroes to appeal to "children of all ages." My proudest accomplishment with the game is that many parents (including my brother) play with their children...sharing, I hope, the same joy for the comic book world that I've had ever since I was 8. I cannot express the shock that I felt seeing that a character created by Cryptic would be used in the same sentence as Columbine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Statesman is the iconic representation of a game where people kill other people with huge broadswords and fireballs with attacks named things like 'head splitter' and 'disembowel', so it is kind of a waste of time to play innocent victim. 99% of the content in City of Heroes is violence. It is the only way to solve any mission in any area of the game. To act shocked and dismayed about it is beyond hypocrisy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Er...what? Are you seriously comparing the violence (pretty damn cartoony violence at that) of City of Heroes with real life violence or the encouragement there of? Do you feel the same way about comic books? Fiction in general? And if you really feel that way...why are you playing this game?
There are also a couple minor points I might make: 1) we are, heroes side anyway, theoretically arresting people, not killing them. (Yeah, yeah, I don't know how you arrest someone by disembowling them with a broadsword either, but it isn't as though the game actually shows anything of the sort. Never mind that our characters are just fine after being similarly broadsworded by the enemy.) 2) There are missions you can win without fighting a single enemy, at least if you're careful and have invisibility. Could there be more? Sure. But they do exist. -

Do not bash religions or political affiliations as you can find nuts on either side of the fence.

While the saner members of their affiliation no doubt wish they could drag the nuts off to a little padded cell. Or simply act as voices of reason, as when John Denver (who I feel safe in assuming was liberal) argued against the music witchhunt by Tipper Gore and co.
The best thing we can do is be voices of reason to the people we know. -
Its not a traditional bio, but I think it works. It sounds a little like the dramatic quotes some fantasy and science fiction novels use between sections to set the scene. As in: "When the twelfth moon sets, evil will again rise. - The Scrolls of the Ages" (bad example, but hopefully you get what I mean.) That seems apropriate to the episodic nature of gaming.

((oh, good, this thread hasn't died
))
Keith wasn't going to argue the swordsman's suggestion; he would do a lot more good making sure he didn't get overwhelmed than he would have on his own. Though the swordsman didn't seem to be having much more luck keeping the zombies down than Keith was having keeping them blinded - the dratted things either reasembled or were replaced as fast as they fell.
Did they build this place on a graveyard? Keith wondered. Or did someone bring... What did necromancers use anyway? Dehydrated zombies? Dirt from a fresh grave?
A disembodied hand crawling up his leg ended his irrelevant line of thought.
"Yech!" Keith tossed the hand back into the melee. "Does anyone know what gets rid of zombies?" -
"Thanks," Keith said to the swordsman. He had definitely gotten too close to the fray - or it had gotten too close to him. There really were an awful lot of zombies.
Broken glass rained down on them and Keith jumped back, narrowly avoiding the shards. The zombies didn't seem to care.
Keith stared at the glass studded zombies for a moment; at times like this, running away had a certain amount of appeal. But the heroes were outnumbered, or at least out-weirded (What was that purple thing anyway? More importantly, diid he want to know?), and the shoppers were still running back and forth like frightened squirrels.
Drat, he thought, and continued blinding zombies, if from a slightly safer distance. -
Ack, Keith thought, and switched off his light bending field. There were now so many things (and a few people) flying through the air that being hit by accident seemed the greater risk.
He ducked a random plate and continued distracting zombies with projected opponents, flash capsules, and his hypnosis ray, which amazingly worked even on their shrivled brains. He only hoped the villains stayed busy with the actual heroes; a well placed plate, sword, or other power and he would be out of the fight for good...or at least until he could make it back from the hospital. -
((Also new at this, but it looks like fun, so here goes...))
I wanted parts, Keith Reily thought, staring at the chaos and carnage that should have been a peaceful food court, Not zombies at the mall. And the zombies were the least of it. There were times when the inventor thought there was something very wrong with Paragon City. Surely people in other parts of the country didn't have their shopping interupted by zombies, divided supervillains, or, well, any kind of supervillain for that matter.
He sighed and switched on his light bending field to hide his presence. Now he only had to worry about the zombies or supervillians accidentally hitting him. Not a vast improvement under the circumstances.
He wasn't a hero, but he couldn't think of a single available member of the heroic organization he worked for who would be much help; the leaders had picked a heck of a day to visit the Shadow Shard, and the rest were either trainees or less than ideal for the situation. The mall didn't need a second storm inside inside its food court, or flaming zombies. But there wasn't really time for a phone call, anyway.
With a sigh, he walked over to the nearest zombie and broke a flash capsule in its face.
((In the game Keith is an ill/kin controller, but since he uses gadgets rather than powers, I'll have to deviate from the game to explain some of his effects. As many seem to do.)) -

Can the original City of Heroes faces (not the "blended" menu faces for CoH+CoV) be renamed to Herioc Face 1, Herioc Face 2, etc...? That way we get all the facial Goodness/Badness without having problems at the tailor. Re-open up the friendly looking faces to the game.
Keep up the good work.

Seconded. Emphatically. Please, please, please. *beg* -
Great guide. It even works for those of us who aren't that computer savy. (Or at least I hope it worked.)

No problem, sorry if I was touchy

I understand completely. It seems like most of the people on the boards are a bit stressed over this...not without cause, since it's extremely frustrating.

All I know is the guy at WalMart will hold one for me as soon as they get one it...................
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a ray of hope, at least. Now they just need to actuall get one.
(As a side note, I think all the Wal*marts where I live have stopped answering the phone in electronics. I get the image of the clerks hiding under their desk whimpering "Oh, God, it's someone else wanting that damn computer game.")

I GOT MINE!
and the code worked fine
[/ QUOTE ]
Glad to hear it. At least now we all know that when those darn boxes finally show up, all won't be for naught.
And...ENJOY!
Even feel free to gloat just a bit. -
I actually did read what you wrote, I merely misread "new release day" as "new release date." My bad. I was just trying to keep you from getting your hopes up and then dashed again.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Will my WalMarts get it in tomorrow since that's new release day? Or are they totally behind and will I have to wait until next week or the week after?
[/ QUOTE ]
That isn't a release date, that's when Wal*Mart usually gets games. I don't think anyone knows for sure when they'll turn up in stores.
(I had to work very hard not to type that as " if they'll turn up") -
[ QUOTE ]
Yay! I just checked my order status and its already been delivered to my house... now the rest of the work day is really going to drag on..
[/ QUOTE ]
Be sure to get back to us on whether the code is working right. I know some people have wondered if its impossible to find status was due to an actual problem
Thanks!
Oh, and congratulations!!!! -
[ QUOTE ]
ermmm...its still there.
GvE on WallyWorld Website : sold out
thought I might nip that one right off. so while it is still on the site...it's still unavailable for purchase.~
[/ QUOTE ]
Its there via the link, but if you go to Wal*mart.com and search for it, it doesn't come up. But you may be unable to pull up anything that's out of stock via search. I don't know, this was the first time I'd ever gone to Wal*mart's site. -
You can't buy the code on line until the 6th.
(Which at the rate things are going will be sooner than you can buy the box at Wal*mart.) -

Besides, by the time MUO comes out, I'll be more than ready for the switch, as I'm sure most of us will be.

There's one. How many to follow?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not me. But then I may well be in the minority. I'm not a big fan of superheros (not to suggest I dislike them, but the only superhero series I ever collected was Excalibur and the only TV show I watched was Darkwing Duck (yes, you can throw things at me for even admitting that), but I love the character design flexibility of COH/V and I like how easy it is to play compared to most MMOs. Anything new that came along would have to completely blow COH/V out of the water to lure me away. I have friends who play WoW, DDO, and COH/V and the only one they've been able to talk me into is this one. The others I either don't like the look of or just plain look too complicated. Besides, most MMOs have a much larger PvP component and I like having PvP be optional.

Very good to have...someone needs to put this in guide to guides.
