Um.. don't know about multiple posting or what not, but thanks, I had missed the death knell from States.

Gee, why be a stalker when you can 2-shot just as well and probably a lot safer, with almost as much stealth with a /DA brute?

so does that mean my scrapper wont be able to one shot minions anymore even if they are 5lvs lower than me or even 10lvs lower than me

i really wish this change were just for pvp just cuz i dont mind getting one shotted in pve it only makes it all the sweater when i get payback

since debt now means almost nothing its not that big deal dying by one shot and recovery from it

Actually, I think this is good news. This means that there can
be no more complaining about the AT. When we kill people
they won't be able to complain about not have a chance to
fight back.

When they die they will know honestly it is because they just
stink.

Sounds like this would only apply to damage received by players. Mobs will just have to complain about it on their own forum.

This is not an NPC change. ONLY PLAYERS WILL BE AFFECTED. In fact, this works in FAVOR of Stalkers, since now THEY won't be one-shotted by enemy NPCs anymore.
Plus, it also works in favor because now people won't be [censored] and moaning about how AS knocks them down in one hit. PvP fights will be fair.

By reading it, it sounds like this will prevent the enemy from 1 shotting you, weather that be in PvP or PvE. Your ability to 1 shot NPCs should not change, however.

Buffy, I respect you as a poster and I refer to your numbers all the time. I have noticed that since you've returned to the boards, you've made some uninformed remarks about stalkers.

Uninformed may be the wrong word, but please roll a stalker and PvP with one before passing judgement about anything.


Currently roleplaying, badgehunting, and laughing at the PvPers of CoX. lol, PvP.

It has ALWAYS been said that this affects PLAYERS and not NPC's. it stops US from getting 1-shotted, not the NPC

Yeah. It looks easy when you are the one being killed in 1 shot, but after making a Spines/SR stalker (currently level 25) I know why they say "the grass is always greener on the other side"

It ain't easy being a stalker!

Actually, when I saw that Stalkers get defensive secondaries with status-effect protection and I recorded the amount of damage my Controller took in Siren's Call to a 1-shot Energy AS kill when at full health, I bugged it. I filled out the form with the numbers and everything. It just made no sense to me that I could take that much damage in 1-shot from an opponent I never saw. It really boggled my mind, being the numbers person and all

[/ QUOTE ] IMO, this is the fundamental issue. It really isn't taking that much damage...it really isn't the inability to see an opponent, it's the combination of those two things that players don't find "fun."

The question then turns on what length the devs expect players to go to, to see stalkers. Creating a situation where one side is forced to team and the other is not...is a position I do not agree with, nor is it consistent with any other philosophy or design promulgated by the game. In addition, forcing one side to team creates cascade problems. As someone pointed out, forcing every hero to stack perception, and most likely Tactics, means that +DEF based powers become less effective on average. It means that having just Stealth as a non-stalker becomes worthless on average.

There is no other AT..and I mean the entire AT, every set in the entire AT, which forces the other side into dramatic build changes like stalkers do. There is nothing unique about blasters that forces the villians to choose powers or builds simply to survive in PvP like all heroes do. Controllers are not the only ones with holds. Every AT has a status effect power that you need a break-free to counter. Every AT does not have the ability to stack Hide + Stealth without aide. Every AT does not have a single attack that is 7/8's unresisted damage that also knocks off two toggles.

I'm sure stalkers have more defeates in PvP than dominators...but that's not disproving anything. The point that Buffy makes...and that I emphatically agree with is that stacked Inviso+Massive Damage = Not Fun...unless you are the one doing it.

It might be fun once...or twice...but this a good 70%-90% of what PvP has boiled down to...avoiding stalkers. PvP could be so much more and so much richer. I can't see how letting stalker completely dominate PvP makes any financial sense.

In practice, one should also have Insights. Not JUST for Stalkers, but... guess what? It helps. I admit that the XBOX IS HUEG-sized damage out of nowhere can be seen as a problem... but there are plenty of NATURAL (read as: not taking pool powers) ways to counter Stalkers. A Spines/Regen complained to me, yesterday, that he could do nothing to counter a Stalker.

Earlier that day, when he had Quills running, I popped out of Hidden with my usual chain of attacks, Placated, and then ASed him. Then I realized that he was replying to something I had said much earlier, so I apologized and let him recover from the blows. He said it was alright, because he knew I was there anyway, seeing "Miss" pop up because of his Quills.

Now, back to the situation in which he said he couldn't counter Stalkers. He stated that whenever he tries to run, it's already too late and they've fired off AS and whatnot. You see... the problem there is that he knew the Stalker was there, but he chose to run instead of doing the smart thing: Dull Pain first. After that, he could've used Instant Healing (which he had) and tore into the Stalker. Instead, he chose to do what most people do: run from the Stalker and then complain when they die.

After a while, he took up my suggestion and guess what? He stopped dying and began killing Stalkers. Now, I know now everyone is Spines/Regen, but this was an example of how people are quick to cry out, instead of figuring out ways to handle these things. I found it odd that he couldn't kill Stalkers, given his level and PVP Rep (which was pretty high; I don't recall the number).

Blasters and Tankers are also quick to complain, from what I've noticed, despite having a means to counter in AT LEAST half of their builds. For those who don't... well, there's pool powers, teaming, and inspirations. Where are the pool powers to resist being TPed into mines? Where are the pool powers to resist being shoved into mobs of NPCs or into corners by Stormies? Yeah. That's pretty darn annoying. The Stormie just sits there and pins you down in a hole for about 5 minutes until other heroes come to pummel the snot out of you.

Defenders? I know they want to PVP, too... but do they really expect to kill or survive without a team? Same goes for Controllers. Do they really do THAT WELL solo in PVE that they expect the same in PVP? Those are actual questions I expect answers to. Those two ATs are the most hunted on the Hero side, much like Stalkers are hunted on the Villain's. Why? It's not because they're squishie. It's because they're the foundation of the team, half the time. Kill the Defender or Controller and the rest of the team can be fairly easy pickings.

Augh. I keep straying off my targets... I know that most Stalkers sit around hunting squishies all day or are EM... or even both, but not ALL are. How did the minority feel when changes were made to their AT due to the majority? You can't expect some of us not to get defensive when we know there may be a major change (this one-shot thing NOT being one of them, since it applies to enemies in PVE one-shotting players as well).

The only time I ever smiled when getting 1-shot AS'd was while my Controller was traveling 80+ mph across Siren's Call headed back to the entrance. I hit the main road that intersects with the hospital drive after maneuvering the obstacle coarse (area where the road is broken) and POW. Now that was impressive! I still haven't figured that one out. Only thing I can think of is that he blocked the little gate and I bounced off him, instead of the wall as I thought I had and when I continued on, he already had it queued up. Since I never broke LOS, that would explain it.

More accurately - losing and not having a chance = not fun. Whether you see the other guy or not and how long it takes for him to kill you irrelevant.

Some ATs and builds don't have a chance against competent PvP stalkers. But then again, some ATs and builds don't have a chance against a competent PvP scrapper, tank, blaster or controller. This issue is in no way particular to stalkers.

I think stalkers just get beaten on more because there's always that feeling that if only you would have seen the windiup for AS or if only you had a split second to pop some pills, run etc. you would have survived. I don't think that's a realistic assumption, as blappers already prove and stalkers will underline when this change goes in.
