Rule #3 Your pet is friggan RABID.

Your pet will brutally assault anyone and anything that comes too close. Regardless of level. Doesn't matter if it's a archvillain or homeless orphan. Your pet will be on it like a starving dog on a bacon bit. I've had times when my pets started in on something and it ended up like a domino effect. They wouldn't stop murdering things at random till the entire area was clear. If you want to see how much chaos this can cause, try summoning them in a newbie zone and walking around. They'll slaughter entire city blocks before their bloodlust is satiated. Sometimes the only way to figure out where the hell they went is to follow the screams and bodies.

xD 5 Stars just for this paragraph let alone the whole guide (yes thats a complement)

And back on topic, yeah this guide is really good. I actually think Im gonna leave my alt in the dust for a Dominator.

Wonderfull guide. Really helps with my Dom builds. We need more fully comprehensive guides like this out here. Btw i love the comments on carrion creepers and the venus fly traps.

Fantastic guide!

I just came back to CoH after a long absence (last played pre-I4), so I decided to pick up CoV and try a non-melee character (I used to play a Scrapper and a Tanker). Dominator is what I always wanted - a Controller that can actually kill things!

This guide was really helpful in discussing what common features the power sets have, and in explaining how the Control and Assault powers complement each other. I think I'll be rolling up a mind/energy or plant/thorns Dominator now - thanks!

*Claps* Very nice and informative post for Dominators. I learned most of this stuff in this guide through manymany defeats, as i'm sure you did. So hopefully it'll help other villains avoid that

Thanks for an excellent guide. I really like how you've thoughtfully explained the principles of the archetype and then given specific detailing on the powersets. So much better than simple cookie-cutter guides (though some of those that get into real specifics with strategy can be quite good, too).

I am working on an ice/ice blaster currently and this has really helped. I recently picked up the group immobilize and after I did so questioned my choice. Having played a controller before, my reflex was that immobilizes were all useful (for a controller, they are: they're sufficient to initiate containment) so I passed over an assault power. On the other hand, I was iffy on the ice sword powers so I think I will treat it like a blast and slot for damage.

good guide

i have a fire/ice and i'm wondering what the "must haves" are from the ice assault

i plan to get grant invis/invis/phase, stamina, and hopefully at least hover, and fly if i can fit it in

Great Guide! I was looking around for ideas on a Dominator when I came across this.

I must admit I almost wet myself from supressed laughter. This is very very well written. I have no real experience with controllers or dominators, so this guide will be very helpful.

Thank you, sir. Here are 5 stars for you.

Main Hero: Flame Blade (Scrapper lvl 50; Katana/Regeneration)
Main Villain: Elenor Seahawk (Mastermind lvl 44; Necromancy/Poison)

Great guide, but I'm just mad that fiery assult isnt commonly considered the uberist. You will all learn (except thorns and energy)

Excellent guide, I only wish a guide like this existed for every AT. This was extremely thorough and gave a comparitive analysis of both the primary and secondary, thanks a million.
I was a bit undecided as what I wanted my dominator to do; first I started out as a plant/thorn but decided I didn't want a FOTM toon so I looked into other options. Next I tried a mind/energy, which I was happy with for a while but I'm not a big fan of confuse though I'm sure it'd be a great tool doing the sneaky news missions method. I finally decided on ice/ice because I had an ice troller and I loved ice slick and the secondary had power boost and stacked the slow. I wasn't quite sure about all the powers though and that's where this guide helped, it finalized a couple powers for me and threw out others, now I can't wait to play this build, it sounds like it'll be killer before I even get a travel power :O

Again thanks, this is most likely the best guide out there due to its completeness and I wish there were others like it for all ATs. Well done!!

WOW is this a great guide. For someone who has just entered the fabulous world of Dominatordom, this is invaluable. Your post is funny, insightful, and detailed.

With my limited experience at level 12, I can say that you're right on for everything about Ice/Ice.

Great guide, although it's already been said many times.

Also, I would like to add another pro to singularities and defend the repel...
It is funny when you spawn a singularity in a mob of rikti monkeys. Sit back and enjor the show!

great guide

Would like to mention that regen scrappers & stalkers have some resistance to toxic damage

A great guide, and my favourite new term .... "Active Defense": I've wanted for a long time to find words to describe what it was about blasters that made them so much more exciting to play than their damage dealing cousins, the scrappers, and now I finally have it.

Request:

On the next guide, I'd really like to see a "Must Haves" or something such as that on the secondaries, I understand that it's kind of hard to say as it depends on play-style, but it would be nice to point out the really awesome ones, or, alternatively, point out the ones you probably want to stay away from or are extremely situational.

Also, if you could provide some insight into slotting Carrion Creepers for Plant (there's so much... does it follow the same soft control trend?) and maybe some insight into pet slotting would be nice.

Awesome guide. Really taught me a lot about my AT I didn't know.

After reading this guide though, I've realized how odd my Gravity / Psionic Dom really is. Probably the most borked types, combined lol.

I still love this guide. Worth reading for anyone interested in a dominator.

Things that aren't mentioned since I7.

PVP: 10 secondary attacks that hit = Domination

PVE: Timer for domination reduced
Domination now acts like a long lasting super break free.

Good stuff.

I'm going to chime in with the others and say "great guide!"

I built a Dom (Mother Pain: Plant/Ice) based off of the principles listed here and I'm now rolling at 41 and enjoying the character immensly. I will agree with the others that took Air Superiority, it was a key attack for me in the lower levels and I still use it regularly (fly+follow+air superiority+strangler= Mad smashing fun and my primary -fly technique).

This is one of the greatest guides i have every seen

As a new player unhappy with my first choice of AT this guide sold me on Dominator, very, very happy with my Plant/Energy Dom built and played according to this guide. Thanks a whole heap if you're still around.

Hehehe, even or you are not interested in Doms it's hilariously written.

Thank you very much, just what I needed to tweak my new Dom, once I get to 50 (43 now) I'm respec'ing him according so the majority of your suggestions. With my own personal tweaks, of course.
