A Plea - COV and COH Costume Pieces
[ QUOTE ]
Except for the missions, and the enemies you fight, and the areas you're in, and the fact that you CAN make a villainous character in CoV or an uberhero in CoH quite easily regardless of what other people do.
Costumes are completely and totally cosmetic. How does it hurt your gaming experience if I want to have a superhero with digitigrade legs (the Monstrous legs option)?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, we have the same mission maps just with different textures. Not all of the enemies are different. I'd like a little diversity in character looks as well.
How exactly does it hurt your gaming experience if you don't have a superhero with digitigrade legs (the Monstrous legs option)? You haven't had one with those for the past year and yet you seem to have gotten along just fine.
Just askin'.

Not having them because they don't exist (as in, not animated and in the creator) is not the same as having them and being told you can't use them cause someone dictated they weren't "heroic" enough.
Then what about all the zones you won't be able to access either because you are heroic and those zones are villainous?
Maybe they should just make everything, clothes, ATs, zones, available to everyone regardless of whether they buy CoV or not. Y'know, to be fair to everyone.
All I know is that if I didn't play CoH and I bought CoV I'd be a little ticked that heroes looked exactly like my characters. But that's me. 'Cause it is supposed to also be a stand alone game.
There will be plenty of people that buy CoV solely for their hero SG to get bases. They will have no intention of playing a villain, no intention of taking part in the PvP zones, and yet..they can look exactly like a villain. It just seems odd to me that it should be that way and people think it's great. IMO if you want to look like a villain...play one!
[ QUOTE ]
To be quite honest, if you were truly going for that "anti-hero" Spawn, Punisher type fellow, I doubt he/she'd be doing any of the missions, if you wanted to keep true to the character.
[/ QUOTE ]
They wouldn't go into a warehouse full of Hellions who had just pulled off a heist? They wouldn't head into an office building where the villains were holding the DA hostage? They wouldn't try to break up a gang war by beating the snot out of both sides?
I have to respectfully disagree.

Game specific content is not the same thing. I mean sure, if you wanna generalize then OK, your rebuttle works. Now if we apply it to a real world scenatio like say buying a car.
I'm annoyed cause for whatever reason my Civic can't get the model of GPS i want in it. I am willing to pay extra (buying COV) but for whatever reason the retailer said no.
Your example is you bought a Civic and are annoyed you can't drive an Accord when you feel like it.

States said if you purchace COV you get the costume options, not if you don't. Your arguement is irrelevant, nobody has been pitching for a complete freebie, and if they are they aren't anymore. Most of us are perfectly OK with buying COV being a requirement.
Again, you're just grasping at an extreme because you're in the losing camp.

If you manage to make a character that looks exactly like someone else with COH/COV's creator...then thats a hell of a coincidence, ot both of you were trying to rip off the same marvel character. Seriously, you know how many options there are in COH alone? Or does the use of the same colors bug you?

You can already look like a villain. You're 18 months too late.

It seems odd to me that how others play bothers someone so much.
To be clear: the code for sharing costume pieces between City of Heroes and City of Villains is NOT yet in...heck, it isn't even written yet. BUT we'll do it after release - hopefully very soon after release. Then heroes can have access to the new options.
To be honest, this idea came specifically from this thread. Since people wanted the new costume options, I checked with Software - who said it could be done. Just wanted to let you know that yes, we do take suggestions!
FYI - for those who don't like the idea because villains should look different than heroes - remember that villains already have hero options. They can create a character identical to one that exists in City of Heroes.

I don't see how the costume options in CoH make CoV any less of a stand alone game. It's a game, you can play it without City of Heroes...so it's a stand alone game. The existence of another game where you can play similar-looking characters doesn't affect that at all.

Er...and?
Wouldn't it be in Cryptic/NCSoft's best interests to make CoV as attractive as possible to the City of Heroes players that aren't interested in playing villains? Someone undecided on purchasing might be swayed by the inclusion of new costume options for their hero characters, but I think very few people would pick up the City of Villains box and say "What? The heroes get new costume options too? Forget that, I'm not playing this stupid game!"

Sweet! Thanks, States.
Though I've gotta agree with some people, exposed brains and sewn shut facial features don't really mesh with the heroic side. But, oh my God, I can't WAIT to get most of the options.

Does this mean heroes will lose their pointy ears?

But I really don't like getting demonized and told I'm "repressing" and "controlling" for suggesting an option that doesn't even exist in game right now not be carried through fully. It's ridiculous.
[/ QUOTE ]
You seem to be in denial.
Your argument seems to have changed to "I don't want to control you, I just think you should be controlled".
You are not going to get around the fact that you are in favour of having less options available. There is no way you can spin that as anything but a reduction in creative freedom.
The new costume items have been made. The costumes exist. They're going to be on our system. The game engine is perfectly capable of rendering a Hero with any or all of these options. The only thing standing between a Hero and a Pirate Hat is an omission in the Costume Editor program. That, and the ridiculous idea that a handful of "unique items" will actually make CoV feel different from CoH.
It's bad enough that you continually misrepresent my argument, but you don't even seem to understand your own. You think Heroes and Villains should be visually different, so you think that difference should be enforced. That impacts on other players, and yes, represses their creativity.

Weaver_One said a new more evil pointy ears was coming to CoV, which makes me wonder if later on they'll be adding more villainous stuff for CoV and more heroic stuff for CoH...
*wonders if that renders this whole argument moot*

While I am in agreement that many of the costume options would 'port over well and be a refreshing option for CoH, certain items like those above and the truly villanous/monstrous faces should stay with CoV. From what I've seen in beta, clearly some options seem "villian-only."
Since I may not have a chance to check before end of beta , question on this:

Am I remembering correctly that some of the heroic face options were replaced/removed when the villanous ones were added?

[/ QUOTE ]
This is my last post on this. Yes I think Villains and Heroes should have some unique costume options. That's it. End of story. They should have some unique visual distinctions.
I'm sorry if you feel I'm impinging on your own creative freedoms. But as it stands now, unless this gets coded, you never had the freedom to select those costumes unless you play CoV. Me suggesting reasons why I don't think heroes should get those options, is not stifling ANY of your current creative freedoms. As a matter of fact, as I said, I'm all for making a majority of the CoV costumes carry over to CoH, thereby increasing your current creative freedoms...but since I didn't want them all, I'm back to repressing them...strange.
I am not in denial, and I did not misrepresent your argument. I merely think your argument is inane since it basically is summed by saying: I want everything because it's coded and anyone who says otherwise is repressing me and trying to control me.
And the making of broad generalized statements that demonize everyone who didn't think it was a good idea to have fully shared costume selections was quite silly.

Just last night I saw a villain that looked like...well, Statesman. Big star on his chest, red, white, and blue costume.

Would it keep me from playing CoV? Nope.
Would I team with someone like that? Probably not.
They'd ruin my immersion.

I think villains should have some options solely for them, and the same for heroes.
If all options are available to both sides, and eventually you can swap sides so all ATs will be on both sides, what makes them different? Nothing. It'll just be one big city of...sameness.
