What gives? CoH<CoV for content
[ QUOTE ]
Ok, so we were told that we would be getting bases when CoH came out, and all these great things would be coming. Now it looks like you cant get this content without having CoV. How is this fair to your longterm player base? I can have everything if I just buy CoV, or I can continue paying for a game that has less features? Maybe I should have just waited for CoV and not wasted all this time and money on CoH. Making you buy CoV is a good marketing ploy, but shows very poor ethics. Guess it comes down to " is $50 bucks worth paying just to get a little added content if you dont want to play a villain" I wouldnt even be considering it if I didnt already have CoH, I would just buy CoV.. why pay for two games when I can pay for one? Its the same darn game, one is just upgraded over the other. If I were a new player I could be satisfied just buying CoV, CoH would leave me unsatisfied due to less content.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you really feel you have wasted your time with CoH, don't even consider buying CoV.
Now if you want only one game, you can also be happy with your past year and switch to CoV.
The fact that you want one game, had nothing to do with what you have done this year, right ?
Yeah, you certainly didn't have to play for an entire in the hope of getting a base. You could have played for a month, cancelled, and then waited for bases.
So basically, the last year of play is a seperate issue from whether or not bases require CoV. If you enjoyed the last year, then it was worth it. If you don't want to buy another game, then it's not worth it to you to buy another game. No shame either way.
Add this to the fact that the devs have stated that a later patch will bring the bases etc. into CoH without CoV . . .. seems like a meaningless whine. CoV is only required if you want the bases, etc, RIGHT NOW! Calming . . ..

My appologies, if this is the case. I have not seen anything saying they would be patching to correct this issue.
Taken from a dev post:
"<[CS]Zeb> To get the benefits of the new features in CoV, CoH players will need a copy of CoV. You don't need to play a villain, just have a copy of the sequel.
<[CS]Zeb> Doing that will give you access to the PvP zones we're introducing and the base building features. Other minor features will be added later that expand both"
Half of your post was informational-thank you. However, stating a concern as an Adult consumer is hardly a "whine" that would be childish, right up there with flaming and making judegment calls against someone elses post. Just because you do not like, or agree with someones post, does not mean you need to respond. Reply when you have something usefull to say.

It is called remuneration.
The new dev team working on CoV deserves some form of compensation for their hard work in putting it together. Why should everything be free when people count on these types of jobs for Housing, Food, and Clothing.
Now, as for CoV being the same game as CoH but prettier: nope. Different play; different attitude; different feel. Besides, you can' play a Hero without CoH just as you cannot play a Villain without CoV.

I wouldn't buy CoV or continue to play CoH if I were you. Since at some point in the future CoH2 and CoV2 will come out, and by your logic, buying and playing both CoH and CoV when the devs were planning on making a sequel is a waste of money.
It's called a sunk cost in economic terms, what you put into it prior to the current situation shouldn't factor into your decision to buy CoV. Either CoV has what you want and you are willing to pay the extra money for it or you're not. Of course, you could whine about it on the forums and see if it saves you any money.

Being that I was here from the beginning, I can promise you that bases were NEVER promised. NEVER. It wasn't on the box, on the website or in any promo material. The most we ever said was - "someday we'd like to do bases."

I was only here from the last week of Beta, but yeah, the only time I really heard concrete discussion of bases was after CoV was announced. Bases were a requested item (player housing and vehicles were the more common requests when I read the boards) but they were not 'expected' material.

Wait a second, so now the story is that we can't have bases at all unless we get CoV too ???
I remember reading in a statesman post that said bases would be coming out for CoH when CoV came out. But from the sound of this we dont get any bases at all ?

Uh, you obviously *CAN* do bases as they're going to be in CoV. But if I'm reading this thread right, you just aren't WILLING to do bases without the purchase of CoV.
What a peculiarly SOE approach.

Wasn't it in the Prima Guide or something? I recall my SG talking about it back in the early days of CoH beta.

The City of Villains FAQ is your friend. You should carefully read the statement which I have quoted below:
[ QUOTE ]
How will City of Heroes and City of Villains interface with one another?
City of Heroes and City of Villains will share the same universe. A majority of the new features and zones introduced in City of Villains will be available to City of Villains customers only. Also, many of the existing (and yet-to-be-released) features and zones within City of Heroes will remain exclusive to City of Heroes customers. There will also be “overlapping” zones in which heroes and villains will interact with each other.
[/ QUOTE ]
The only way to get everything is to buy both. CoH will have features that CoV won't have, and CoV will have features that CoH will not have.
yes... it was alot of HOPE going around about the bases be or not be... and the only thing said colse to all youre base is belong to us was that they would look at it... So [censored] happens.
Um, adding features that people want and requiring them to buy the expansion is pretty standard fare in MMORPGs. CoV is different, in that it is a stand alone game not requiring you to buy the one that came before just to play.
And I never saw anything along the way saying that CoH, itself would have bases for definite. Just a possibility for the future when we didn't know the paid expansion was going to be CoV. Then when CoV was announced, it was the carrot to get people not interested in villains or PvP to buy it.

Who is this Statesman character claiming he has been here from the beginning
OK, Long time listener, first time poster. I have a quick question on the bases. Let's say I join an SG that has a base, but I don't have CoV. Can I still enter the base, or am I simply restricted from building my own base by my lack of CoV ownership? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Well Statesman, this is a prime example of your ambigous advertising of What City of Villains would be. You kept touting it as a whole new game totally seperate from CoH that would be able to interact with CoH some..
By doing this and repeatedly talking about bases being something to fight over peole automatically assumed that since the games were seperate that CoH would get all this content that CoV was getting and you only had to get CoV if you wanted to play a villain not play with all the new toys and features too.
In actuality CoV is a STAND ALONE EXPANSION to CoH. Yes someone who doesn't have CoH can pick itup and play it but its really nothing more than a giant issue for City of Heroes.
So many peole are expecting a game that's totally different b/c they're being told its a different game. Its actualy the same game with all new content and AT. While techincally it maybe a different game.. its really just CoH rewrapped with some new features.
Not to mention the bit you quoted said nothing about it being promised.. and they were 100% we were told bases would be coming and all these other great features would show up.. it was left ambigious back then b/c you had no clue or no intention of releasing what was going to be in CoV b/c it was far to early to.

Not just SOE. Ford does the same thing. They *CAN* put almost every bonus feature into every car they make, but they're only *WILLING* to do it in the cars for which people pay for the bonus packages.
Airlines *CAN* give First Class service to every passenger, but they're only *WILLING* to give it to the the people who pay for it.
CoH has spoiled us a little by giving us so many free updates. However, it is still reasonable for them to make something and put it up for sale.
Billiken, are you on drugs? Having unique features makes CoV *more* of a seperate game, not less. If it was nothing but new zones and nothing we hadn't seen before, *then* it would be a glorified Issue. Saying that CoV has gameplay that CoH doesn't have makes it just another issue, that doesn't make any sense.
