Wasn't it in the Prima Guide or something? I recall my SG talking about it back in the early days of CoH beta.

[/ QUOTE ]
I tisn't in the Prima guide, but having bases has been something that the players have wanted and the devs have wanted to do since beta. The early design notes for the Faultline Dam Supergroup Trial are in the Prima guide.

Got links/articles/dialogs/screenies to prove that?

I've been a forumwhore here for a very LONG time and never once heard anyone mention that bases were A) a definite or B) Would be a free CoH feature if they were.

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree on this part. Perhaps some think of this as something akin to Clinton asking about the definition of "is", but there was no promise. There were comments that the dev team wanted bases, that they they were working on them, but never were bases promised to be free or freely available.

Do I wish they were promised? Yes. Do I wish they were free to people completely uninterested in CoV? Sure. If it's that much of a deal financially or because of 'principles', then wait 6-12 months when it when CoV will likely be discounted to a price in line with a traditional standard expansion. In the meantime, you can enjoy the many gameplay additions that are freely bleeding into CoH already and for the next few months.

The price for the box is fixed at this point, however. Only the retailers can lower it now. If people want to argue about a hypothetical fee increase, you only have a few more days as well. October 5th is the big news day for CoV.

By doing this and repeatedly talking about bases being something to fight over peole automatically assumed that since the games were seperate that CoH would get all this content that CoV was getting and you only had to get CoV if you wanted to play a villain not play with all the new toys and features too.

[/ QUOTE ]
I think that the dev team has been pretty clear in interviews and articles that there was going to be at least a period of exclusivity to certain features, including bases.

I think my 'L' is going out. This is the third post I've had to correct for L's dropping out.

What about the SG Vaults you once mentioned as a possibility in the meantime? A place for SGs to vault enhancements and such. I believe you mentioned access from City Hall, at the time. There were boards before these that, afaik, can't be searched that lead up to the launch of COH, too.

[/ QUOTE ]

Per the dialogue I had with Lord_Recluse a few months ago, I added this statement in the section on bases in 'The Last CoV Primer':

[ QUOTE ]
The devs are still being cagey about when or if supergroups will be able to pool Influence, Inspirations, and Enhancements. Perhaps because of the Hammidon Enhancement issue still up in tha air? We'll have to wait and see.

[/ QUOTE ]
Months ago, I point blank asked him about whether the Vault base improvement was just for 'Items of Power' and he replied that, "There are plans for Influence and Enhancements, but they are different from the Item of Power vaults."

So people who buy CoV are not necessarily getting a leg up on things as far as that highly-anticipated QoL feature. The devs have continued to be cagey about pooling Inspirations/Enhancements/Inf and have gotten no impression that there's something secret waiting in the wings this year.

wouldn't it just make sense in general for bases to be a CoV only thing unless you have them both? Villians fight against each other all the time so base battles are the norm; however, Heroes don't normally go storming into another Hero groups base to "steal" stuff. Also, if you notice, most hero groups that HAVE bases in the comics actually face villian raids as well as attack other bases when they are discovered. So from a design stand point (to me) it makes sense for CoH to be out of the base buildin' fun unless you have CoV.

Now from a Technical and buisness sense; the dev team on CoV need to get paid :P also I see it sort of fitting. People who truley want to be villains (or just want base building right this second) will buy CoV at the price it is now and play. Now take into effect the time for them, they have to start from lvl 1 where CoH already has lvl 50's with ????? amounts of inf. They play, lvl, gain funds, then start base building. The people that have CoV & CoH can also start base building on CoH. Now, by the time the price drop for CoV happens (which it will) there will be high lvls in CoV (as well as updates and some fine tuning) to make a more balanced Base Raid.

Taking this into account, by the time CoV is the price of an expasion for CoH players, it would be prime time for some real Base Raid's with well thought out bases.

thats just how I see it I guess...

1. I hope some of the minor items (hooves on heroes) be available on CoH without CoV. Bases I care less about.

2. -If- I bought CoV, there is no or -very- small monthly charge if I own CoH.

3. If I don't want to play CoV, I can just use the CD/DVD for the content and not pay anything other than the initial cost.

Yes it is in the Prima guide as is the faultline trial. Seems that the prima guide is some what like "Promo material".

Ok, so we were told that we would be getting bases when CoH came out, and all these great things would be coming.

[/ QUOTE ]

Being that I was here from the beginning, I can promise you that bases were NEVER promised. NEVER. It wasn't on the box, on the website or in any promo material. The most we ever said was - "someday we'd like to do bases."

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL not surprising really. Like many of the other sayings from the early days such as "PvP will not effect PvE" and "We want the game to cater to casual/solo players".

So is CoV an expansion or a stand alone then? I don't think I've ever seen a clear answer. Only comments that happen to fit whatever view the devs need at the moment. When convenient to the devs it is an expansion. When convenient it is a stand alone game.

*shrug*

It's a shame to see the business side coming down so hard on the playerbase with the coming of CoV. A lot of the ideals of the early days are washed away to make room for bags of money. In anycase I don't really need a base that bad. You can keep CoV out of my CoH, thanks.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's a simple concept, really....if you buy CoV, you fall into one of two categories. People that have CoH, or people that don't. If you have CoH, it's an expansion. If you don't, it's a stand-alone.

And they never said that getting CoV was the only way to get a base, ever.

It's so simple I don't get what people are angry about, we get FREE updates, it's mind blowing people can [censored] so much about stuff they get for free.

If you like some of the stuff coming out with COV you have a really simple choice. Choice 1.) Continue playing COH and HOPE that some of the things you like about COV bleed through into COV one day or you have Choice 2.) Buy COV and play it.

Is it 'fair' maybe maybe not but that's life, this is a game that I'd say has been really fun and with all the updates we've had it's just added to the fun. If you don't like it quit playing, sure you can suggest to the devs what you would like but don't expect every wish to be granted.

Wait a second, so now the story is that we can't have bases at all unless we get CoV too ???

I remember reading in a statesman post that said bases would be coming out for CoH when CoV came out. But from the sound of this we dont get any bases at all ?

You're sitting here, telling Statesman what Statesman said? Does this not seem strange, and, perchance, stupid, to anyone?

Explain to me what the $15/month is for again? If it's just to play this game, WOW! what an ego they have. And new updates every 2 months with new maps and story arcs every issue release, im getting such a great deal.

Wow, I play BF2 and get missions, weapons, troops, maps, vehicles every update and for free too. And you can only play it online with other people if you really want to enjoy the game, but if you like bots, you can play single player mode. How fun would that be?!. Come on already!

comparing apples to oranges. every single mmo is that way, and usually are much stingier. compare the buisness model of world of warcraft, everquest 2, et-cetera. i dont pay for my morrowind mods either(if fact, it would be illegal to charge for them), but thats an entirely different kind of game system.

Statesman, I for one never expected bases to be available to non-CoV people. However, this is yet another example of your commitment to murkiness biting you in the rear.

Full disclose, early and often. Facts are your friends.

[/ QUOTE ]

Dude, no. Direct quote from Statesman:

Bases are CoV.

There was no murkiness on Statesman's part, only wishful thinking on our part.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually all that says is that bases are in CoV. Which no one disputes.
