Now I've got the most basic question in the world. Has any system specs at all been release for CoV? I've heard that the graphics are going to be a improvement on the CoH design. But does anyone know any system specs?

That info is in the FAQ on the City of Villains site.

Jeez, what a bunch of whiners. They offer you a FREE add-on for pre-ordering and you all complain about what they give you.

It's FREE!!!! Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

[/ QUOTE ]

It is not free. For something to be free you need to be able to get it for nothing. In order to get these items you must make a purchase. Therefore they are at no additional cost. This is a marketing ploy to encourage pre-order sales. It is ignorance to see it as anything else.

A gift is free. This is not a "gift horse" because the pre-order is a prerequisite. This is a marketing ploy.

Free may be one of the most abused words in retail. Buy X get Y Free! No, get Y at no additional cost. If Y were free, I would get it for nothing.

If you lookup the definition of the word "free" you will see it is without restriction. Since the restriction is a purchase, it is not free.

Would this constitute a PSA? "The more you know."

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Regarding the other issues you've raised in this thread regarding the genders of the helmets and associated issues... although there will be a period of exclusivity for these items, we do plan to make them available to our community eventually. So if you can't get your hands on a particular costume piece right now, we will announce at a later date how you can acquire all the helmets.

Have a great weekend!

So....then....why bother with a pre-order (other than to start, what, 2 days earlier)?

And the link that someone had posted for EBGames for the pre-order "collector's edition" was like $80. Is that right? WTH is with that price tag?

Sanfrantastic. Thanks for the info. Should be interesting to see how my computer does given the info listed there.

Thanks for the info, Alexa, just in time for me to cancel my pre-orders with GameStop.

[/ QUOTE ]

When you cancel it, please let them know WHY. Marketing (which drives nonesense like this) needs to suffer from it's stupidity.

Wow... For the first time in my life I meet the recommended system, lol. Of course, I need a better graphics card, truly, but this is the closest I've ever been.

Yay me?

Because theres more stuff? Like every other Collector's Edition that has come out in the past year?

The extra stuff in the Collector's Edition will at least include 7 CoH/CoV HeroClix figurines. It's up to you to decide whether that is incentive to buy the Collector's Edition. It is not required.

well to answer all the questions about the monthly fees for both games it is YES. if you read the FAQ on the COV website they say that COV isnt an expansion but a seperate game entirely. But they are trying to get you with the fact that you can make bases in COH when you get COV.

Not trying to start a fight or anything.. but on the whole (nurfs and all) the devs and other powers that be have been pretty darn fair with the players we in come to how we are treated compaired to other games. Since COV will be required for SG base and certan PVP content I don't think they would go a low as to charge another full 15 bucks for COV ever month. I'm thinking the plan of a slight increase 1- 5 bucks for both games is more the route I would take.. it will move alot more boxs of CoV.. thats for dang sure

Yeah...once again I am glad I pre-ordered through Gamestop. Pink run and a better helm for my taste

I know a lot of people won't agree, but I'm a little annoyed they say they're "exclusive" items when they're really not. Sure, they'll be exclusive for a couple months, but then everyone gets them. That sort of removes the exclusivity and prestige from these items. I still like the fact that I'm one of few with the Dash power, which signifies how long I've been with the game. I'd love something similar with CoV (although, I can completely understand players not wanting costume options to be exclusive.)

This brings up another question, however. If I buy CoV and add it to my CoH account, will my villains be able to use the Prestige Sprint powers from pre-order CoH?

[ QUOTE ]
Hmm - I cant tell which way some of those even fit lol. Maybe a few screenies with chars wearing them will come out before i have to buy.

[/ QUOTE ]

/agree

Alexa, could you please add some pictures of the helms being worn?

What about the fact that Best Buy is not carrying the game on there website? Do we have to buy the game in store?

Villainy on the Horizon...

The City of Villains Closed Beta Test is targeted to begin in the August 2005 time frame. It is important to note that this is subject to change, so please return here periodically for the latest information as it becomes available.

First priority into the Closed Beta will be offered to long-time, currently active City of Heroes subscribers as part of a program designed to reward their continued support. You can go <insert link to October '04 beta press release on the PlayNC site> for more program-related specifics. Please note that past participation in the City of Heroes Beta Test has no bearing on this program.

Current subscribers can also win Closed Beta slots through City of Heroes contests and email promotions. You should keep your eyes peeled for such opportunities on the Official City of Heroes web site, in your email box, and on this web site.

You can also obtain a spot in the Closed Beta by pre-ordering City of Villains. All pre-order boxes contain a registration code for future access to the Closed Beta. The exact date of entry is still to be determined, but access will be granted after the long-time City of Heroes subscribers have been invited.

In the meantime, what can you do on your end to make sure that your beta invitation doesn't go astray? First, make absolutely sure that the email address listed on your PlayNC account is correct and valid. If we can't reach you, you'll miss out on your chance to participate! Click here to log into PlayNC and review your contact information. Also, because the invitations are auto-generated email messages, you'll need to double check that your spam blocker is either turned off or adjusted appropriately. (The invitations will be issued from support@plaync.com.) These simple steps can help to ensure your entrance into the Closed Beta, where all the villainous fun awaits.

any idea on why neither CompUSA nor Best Buy have updated their sites. Also is their a way to pre-order other than online?

So I am highly PC illiterate so I am going to ask this Barney style. If my PC runs CoH just fine, then will it be able to handle CoV? Just asking now this way I can prepare myself for if I need to go out and spend another 200 frikking dollars on my Vid Card just to get the game playing (like I had to when I got CoH). Thanks for you help.

You win and I win. We can sit back and laugh at those players that went to EB and BestBuy

For me personally, I don't care who I pre-order from if it wasn't a matter of special things. I like the Blood Widdow helm, I looked best among the 4...(2 not shown by the time I pre-ordered...<cough>CompUSABestBuy<cough> )

I do think it is Ironic that I choose the only female helm too That was a laugh

Probably nothing more than they're just slow. They might be waiting to actually have the pre-order boxes before they start letting people order them.

As far as other options, some retailers just put the pre-order boxes on the shelves to be sold. That's how I got my CoH one. I bought it for $10, and when CoH came out, I presented my receipt and got $10 off my CoH purchase.

I love the special sprint effects for CoH, great touch, but I hate the costume pieces thing. Any chance the big bad $90 Collector's Edition of CoV will unlock all four helmets? That would make me feel better, especially about paying $90.

I pre-ordered at EB when we only knew about the one helmet. If i had seen the Blood Widow helmet i woulda waited til i had a chance to hit Gamestop. Hmmm if theres a dev for Mako don't tell em i said that. But Ghost Widow pwns all the others including sharkboy

Well I did it, I pre-ordered the Collectors Edition from Gamestop. I can't help myself, I'm already addicted to anything CoV that I didn't want to miss out on anything. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that I get more than heroclix figures with my CE but I'm also excited about the fun bonus stuff shipping next week. The CoV website says that the contents of the CE would be released with the kick-off of announcing pre-orders being available and I'm still waiting lol!

Where did you get that quote from? I've look at every message from Alexa and didn't find it. Are you making that up?

I hope you aren't because I'm on of those who didn't get lucky and bought from EB before knowing that there was a different helmet for each sellers. No need to say that i'm the type of player that play mostly with female characters... Anyway, there'll probably be so much costume option that maybe i won't need the *auto-censured* helmet
