That is one question I don't really mind being asked over and over because reallly the only thing people have heard about is the heroclix, while not a fan of heroclix myself I thrive on fiction and would love to have the upcoming novel included in the collectors edition, that or some art or backstories.
Actually, despite my protestations that european players should have an option on these pre-orders (especially us 12+ monthers) I'm really starting looking forward to possibly being the only villain now who WON'T be wearing a helmet

Regarding the other issues you've raised in this thread regarding the genders of the helmets and associated issues... although there will be a period of exclusivity for these items, we do plan to make them available to our community eventually. So if you can't get your hands on a particular costume piece right now, we will announce at a later date how you can acquire all the helmets.

Went and pre-ordered at EB, so I'm getting the Crab helmet. Looks great, but that Wolf War helmet is damn sexy - can't wait to get that one.

While there's obviously RP reasons for certain helmets being certain gender, the issue here's that it restricts the bonus to certain character types, which forces them (if they care about the item) to A) go to a particular store or B) make a particular gender character. Comparing:
CoH Pre-Order: Prestige Sprint, different depending on the store, but available to all your characters no matter what.
CoH DVD: Power Slide, available to all your characters.
CoV Pre-Order: Prestige Helmet (sic), different depending on store... but also only available to one model?
It would've made more sense to have an inherent power, a la Prestige... maybe a shinier Brawl/Rest if you want something different. Ha.
And there's not even an option for Huge models? (Assuming there is a huge model at all, I suppose.) Feh.
Edit: Ah, hell. The GameStop helmet reminds me way too much of the helmets from AO. *grumble* On the upside, having the helmets available later = good thing.
Random tangent: Just realized something -- pre-orders are going through before we know the subscription model (for either standalone or CoV/CoH dual)?

Which is why I am reluctant to preorder. I don't really care about the helms, but I do care about how much the monthly fee will go up....

Maybe they've made the bodies more scalable so a Huge model is unnecessary. I cringe at the thought of all the Big Berthas that'll be running around the Rogue Isles.. o.O

If it goes like CoH beta or Auto Assault beta (which is HIGHLY likely ), it'll play out like this:<ul type="square">[*]You receive your pre-order box with bonus disk and pre-order registration serial number.[*]Enter the pre-order registration serial by clicking on 'Add Game' at your PlayNC Account Management page. That will put an additional game subscription line on your PlayNC account page below your CoH subscription line.[*]When it is time for the pre-orderers to join beta, you will be sent an email with your beta activation code and a link to download the game client. You will now be able to download the game files and participate actively in beta.[*]This account will remain active during the 'headstart' period, but deactivate on Launch Day until you enter the retail serial code inside the retail box.[*]Profit![/list]

My guess is that only women will be able to join the Blood Widows.
And I'd hope that other than the Blood widow helmet being female only that anyone could use the other three.

Hmm - I cant tell which way some of those even fit lol. Maybe a few screenies with chars wearing them will come out before i have to buy.

All the helmets are positioned as if an avatar is facing you and looking at your right shoulder.
I have a couple of questions I hope might be answered by the local forum-goers or even an elusive Redname (Lays out the trap and baits it with Pie)

Ok, so back to my original question. Who thought that gender-specific helmets was a good idea for the pre-order bonus? And why?
Can you get us some images that aren't so heavily Photoshopped? I know some clueless graphic designer thinks it's his job to slap a Bevel/Emboss and Drop Shadow layer style onto everything that comes across his desk, but I would like to get a better indication of what these things look like in-game.
yeah this gender specific thing kind of irritates me, but oh well i canceled with gamestop and ordered from ebgames.

From previous NCSoft beta experiences, I would say the 'loyalty' invite works as if you had bought an extra pre-order, but your beta activation code will come sooner than the pre-order.
