More info about CoV pre-orders
I have a question, not a complaint. Like so many others I pre-ordered CoV registered my copy to my PlayNC account, and it took my key. It said I would get a confirmation email, the problem is that the email never arrived. My email address is the same and is correct on my account info. Should I be concerned? Take any action? Or is the fact that it took my key sufficient sans confirmation email?
As long as your account info says " City of Villains PREORDER", you're good to go.
Yeah, even though it says it will email you, if you did the upgrade it gives no notification.

Hmm, that's odd, my box doesn't say anything like that.... no start date to be finalized... So yes, it should be NOW

My point was that the information is out there. Internet: The Information Superhighway. It would be safe to assume that you have access to it, as you're here. So, why is it that you didn't know the details, yet you knew that you could pre-order City of Villains with the promise of getting into Beta? Are you a selective reader? There were emails stating that you could pre-order City of Villains from online stores. It even listed which ones. Those online stores (who had it listed) also listed the details of the pre-order bonus.
Major Life Tip: Look up information on the product you intend to buy/pre-order. Only the foolish act first and ask questions later (this actually applies to a good portion of everyday life). Don't blame a company for your lack of an attention span or your apathy towards information.

Not to mention that they have said repeatedly in the CoH forum that the order of beta entry will be Loyalty/Contest/Pre-order.

All that I am saying is that I shouldn't have to do hours of research to find out information on a product at the store, it should have clearly stated WHEN the beta access starts. That's all. Because some people dont even know what a "Forum" is. That's all I'm trying to say. The box is VERY misleading. I don't know how you can tell me it's not. But, we are both entitled to our opinions. (I'm just right)

Five to ten minutes does not equal hours. You know what the greatest tools for digging up info are? Google, Official sites, Stickies, and Search engines on forums. If you know what you're looking for, it won't take all that long.
[ QUOTE ]

My guess would be that those people haven't been on the internet long. Even so, you don't need a forum. Almost every product has an OFFICIAL SITE where they host a good deal of info about said product.

Corrected.
Thank you. And, yeah, sorry about the rip. It was just one of those weeks at work and when I saw that beta access was available, I just felt like something finally went right. Then, I felt like I got it thrown back in my face.
I'm cool now, though. Croatoa gives me something to do till the email arrives.

Most advertising is misleading in one way or another. It's meant to be. It wouldn't be advertising if it was completely accurate.
If you buy a standard copy of the City of Villains game, you will have full access upon official release of it at a yet unrevealed time in the near future (in other words, when it's ready).
If you buy a pre-release beta version of the game, you will have full access to the official release two days earlier than this yet unrevealed time in the near future (in other words, two days before it's ready).
The reason for this early access is to test the load on the servers to see if any changes need to be made before opening for live play.
The only people with access "NOW!" are those that have won contests or have been "loyal" customers. I also have a strong suspicion that "loyal" means total time spent in-game. Guess those 18 hour days of endless missions paid off.

correction, no contest winners have been given access to the beta, they don't get in until after all loyalty program customers get in. those people who said "my friend is a contest winner and he says he got in" are lying.
I my self like many before me, wondered when I would get asscess to the Closed beta with my preorder.. and so I read the offical CoV site and took what is said.. it states clearly that
you can also obtain a spot in the Closed Beta by pre-ordering City of Villains. All pre-order boxes contain a registration code for future access to the Closed Beta. The exact date of entry is still to be determined, but access will be granted after the long-time City of Heroes subscribers have been invited.
to be determined... I myself am quite excited to play around with the beta.. but I understand that I will have to wait.. I dont know if anyone else had posted this fact so I took the liberty of doing so..

I dont see how it matters. But for the record, contest winners are in. That's what the PRIZE was. Access to beta.
If it was access when the pre-orders were, it would not be much of a prize.
Are you sure they are in? Because, according to everything the devs have said, I would be getting in before the contest winners, being a 12+ monther.

Alexa posted this on 8/17 in the closed beta is starting thread:
Contest winners should expect to receive invites within the next couple of weeks.
Two weeks was 8/31. Its september now. So yeah, Contest winners are in.
12 monthers were guaranteed a portion of the first slots. Not all. All beta's run contests that provide early access. Its usually the best way in for folks like us.
Actually, we were garenteed the first slots.
And mind you, I don't think the original plan was to go nearly a month without a second wave.

I quote the press release:
Created by Cryptic Studios, City of Villains is the sequel to the hugely successful and critically acclaimed City of Heroes, which launched in April of this year.
The program will give priority to those who have been subscribed to City of Heroes the longest. A percentage of slots will be reserved for City of Heroes veterans, players who have subscribed to City of Heroes for at least 12 months. Those players will automatically earn a slot as a Villains beta tester. Players with at least six months of time in City of Heroes will receive the next level of priority consideration for the beta testing program. Higher character level is not necessarily an advantage in the selection process.
Percentage does not equal all. So all 12 monthers were not guaranteed first access. You were just guaranteed A SLOT at some point.

Priority means first.

Actually the way it's used, it means preferential treatment.

The way I read it, it means that the majority of beta invites will go to those who have been subscribed the longest. It doesn't mean that everyone who's been here since the game opened will be invited right off the bat.
As plainly stated by Alexia earlier today...
[ QUOTE ]
As we have mentioned in the past, first priority into the Closed Beta is being offered to long-time, currently active City of Heroes subscribers as part of a program designed to reward their continued support...Everyone who qualifies under this program will be invited into the Closed Beta eventually.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really would like ot know if I qualify.
It's pretty borderline if you look at my forum reg date.
This is part of the official announcement they have made...
"The program will give priority to those who have been subscribed to City of Heroes the longest. A percentage of slots will be reserved for City of Heroes veterans, players who have subscribed to City of Heroes for at least 12 months. Those players will automatically earn a slot as a Villains beta tester. Players with at least six months of time in City of Heroes will receive the next level of priority consideration for the beta testing program."
Now, this is my interpetation...
"The program will give priority to those who have been subscribed to City of Heroes the longest."
---longer you have been here, better the chance to get in. Next line...
" A percentage of slots will be reserved for City of Heroes veterans, players who have subscribed to City of Heroes for at least 12 months."
----"We have <x> amount of slots for beta, so veterans will fill <%> of those slots." Not all of the beta slots will be for veterans. Next line...
"Those players will automatically earn a slot as a Villains beta tester."
---"Those players" refers to the % picked, not everyone (maybe? Unsure...). And onwards...
"Players with at least six months of time in City of Heroes will receive the next level of priority consideration for the beta testing program."
----after the veteran players are introduced, "If" they let more current players into beta, the next batch they will consider will include a % to fill the rest of the slots, and only "If" they have played at least 6 months.
Some of the things I believe are key here, "consideration" doesn't mean you are automaticaly in. A "percentage" means that they already probably have a fixed amount of slots they will fill and they are reserving only some slots for different qualifications.
Now, I dont work for them and I may be extremely off base, but this is just what I "assumed" after reading that statement they said. Yes, I would love to get into beta. Yes, I am a +12 month player. No, I do not think they "owe" me a slot at all, except for the preorder beta invitations.
Please don't flame me for my "interpetations" because I already stated that I don't know any of this for sure.
Hope to see all of you in game, beta or released.
Oh yeah, one other thing. Not to offend anyone, but can someone explain to me a little clearer why you would cancel a preorder from a store and re-preorder somewhere else, when the helmets will be available in the future anyways? Just don't get it myself.
[ QUOTE ]
Okay everyone - I'm back with more info. You can check out pictures of all the helmets here!
Regarding the other issues you've raised in this thread regarding the genders of the helmets and associated issues... although there will be a period of exclusivity for these items, we do plan to make them available to our community eventually. So if you can't get your hands on a particular costume piece right now, we will announce at a later date how you can acquire all the helmets.
Have a great weekend!

You know the shame here? I usually buy from Game Stop but I never play female character and that helmet is... er... (be nice) ok, I guess.
Bummer.

Nope - I have two friends who got into the Beta who have a LOT less hours in the game than I. And yet. . . . no beta invite for me.

I feel your pain. I bought my pre-order from GameStop and had no idea my in game item was a female only helm. I play males exclusively so I guess it won't be much help. Shame you can't trade it to someone in game.
But really, if this ends up being my only complaint about the pre-order, I won't be upset at all.
Finally, my pre-order bonus came in! Gave away both 14 day trials to coworkers!
You will have to forgive me if someone has asked this already. But Why can't I have all the helmets as options? I have to be limited? If so why? It makes no sense to me. Am I suppose to advertise what store I shop at? What is the reasoning behind this limitation?
wow we are like a bunch of rabid dogs !
i to feel the hunger for cov beta access.
maybe the dev's wil throw us a bone soon.... er not coh soon either. lol
