  1. I won't stay away. I intend to pop in from time to time by paying for a month after seeing what changes each issue brings. I am keeping this game installed just in case I want to play it, or tankers receive some love.

I just don't care to pay for the gameplay we have today, and desire to explore EQ1 and EQ2 while waiting for Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion to arrive.
  2. I'd recommend one End Red in Fly so that you can keep your toggles up while flying. Also consider adding End Rec slots to Unstoppable, as it is now a power to be relied upon. You could set Jab to auto and take a slot from Punch and Air Superiority's end red.

Kimmie, whose account expires tomorrow and is not being renewed. The only way the Devs seem to listen to the player base is via the dollars paid, so I am doing my part to ensure tankers are given some love by pulling out.
  3. Blackest Night, thank you so very much for this guide!

Taking ED into account, I have found this guide perfect for designing my Dark/Dark Corrupter. Yes, I find Corrupters better as Offenders than Defenders thanks to a much more useful inherent, and I am playing evil as I shelf my beloved tanker in despair because of what ED, I5, and toggle dropping does to her.

Thank you again! Your guide rocks!

This has caused my blaster to play quite a bit differently, and so I have decided to retire him. I don't want to always be thinking of how it was in the good 'ole days

Sadly, I feel the same way about my level 42 Invuln/SS tanker. Having experienced every AT here before ED and I5, I think I should focus on villains for now, as they have no prior feel in my experience.
  5. I do not know firsthand, as I primarily play Dr. Kara Lokison, Invuln/SS tanker.

Cones now affect up to 10 foes (I5 limit), and each enhancement will not make a big difference on their short ranges. I think the cones will get wider as they progress outward, but even a SO offers only 20% more range on an already short ranged attack. Case in point, Energy Torrent has a 12' range. Add an SO and you only get 14.4' range, and a barely wider cone at that end.

Once you have up to 10 affected (and can potentially miss all 10), no more foes will be affected by the attack. If you had 15 foes in your cone, only the first 10 will receive a To-Hit roll check, and the other 5 will be totally ignored by the affect.

I think you should be slotting cones for holds/slows/damage instead of range, but your milage may vary.
  6. Dr. Kara Lokison
    Inv/SS
    Science / Descendant of Loki

Dr. Kara Lokison is a molecular biologist working on the Human Perfection Project. The goal of the HPP was to physically enhance the human body to resist disease and channel psychic energy through the body to enhance durability, healing, and strength. She is the first and so far only successful subject. Her first "costume" was just her comfortable workout clothes: halter top, cargo pants, biking gloves, and combat/hiking boots. The HPP's first part was physical enhancement which grew her to nearly 8' in height.

Kara "wills" her mind's energy to reinforce her body, generating resistance fields that display as auras. Naturally the energy is already in her muscles and bones, giving her "superstrength". Willing the power to reinforce her skin, fly, or TP Foes to her fist is draining, but there is no effort to keep her strength up.

Kara has a theory that superpowers are often spontaneously generated from subconscious desires and interests. Her favorite hero is Supergirl from DC Comics, and she developed the Human Perfection Project to become more like her hero Kara Zor-El. The fact that it worked perfectly for her, but not for others, led to this theory on desires creating powers in those with potential.

Her sisters developed powers that conform to her theory. When her sister Sif Lokison (En/EM Blaster) was accousted by the Lost while returning home from a modeling shoot, she kept thinking "Keep away!!!" as she developed energy powers that knocked foes away. When her sister Hela Lokison (DM/DA Scrapper) sought to tap into the goddess Hela/Hel's powers as part of her magical research, she became a mistress of manipulating dark energy for melee combat. Dr. Rachel Lokison (Illusion/Rad Controller) is a particle physicist researcher whose interests were in lasers and radiation stimulation. Reality Shifter (Dr. Rebecca Lokison, Gravity/Kin Controller) is a portal quantum researcher interested in space/time affects at the subatomic level. All 5 sisters developed abilities directly related to their own interests.

Recently Kara discovered why she and her sisters have such potential. Sinmora (giantess wife of Surt/Surtor the ruler of Muspelheim Fire/Fire Blaster) and Skadi Thiassi (Norse Juton Goddess of the Hunt and Winter Ice/Ice Blaster) came to Midgard to fight evil and explained to Kara that Kara's ancestry is directly descended from Loki himself. The DNA of the Aesir God of Change/Fire/Magic/Mischief seems to give rise to superpowered potential in the Lokison family DNA. Kara's theory holds true for only her family.

Now Kara wonders if she is meant to be a hero. The Government and the Universities are cutting funding to her Human Perfection Project, she refuses to accept funding and restrictions from Crey (she's fought them plenty of times to know how shifty they are), and Arachnos seems interested in funding research like hers. Perhaps, like her ancestor Loki, she should switch sides in order to continue her research without restrictions... If such a day ever comes to pass, she knows exactly how she can instantly gain Arachnos' trust and parlay to join them...

  7. In I5, there is only 1 type of range enhancement. The Devs felt that there was too much confusion between regular range and cone range enhancers, so they unified them both.
  8. Finally, my pre-order bonus came in! Gave away both 14 day trials to coworkers!
  9. I pre-ordered on July 31st with nothing to show except Gamestop Online canceling my order and having to redo my pre-order last week.
  10. Lordy, I forgot about updating the build in this thread. My current version is in my sig, and is quite a bit different after peer review, more number crunching, and gameplay.

For that build, I took hover for perfect combat mobility. No suppression, speed equal to Fly when unslotted, and very low endurance costs. The idea was that I am not touching the ground, so I laugh at all ground attacks (Earthquake and Quicksand). Fly only needs 3 SOs for speed to come so close to the speed cap at level 50 that a 4th speed SO is a waste.

Basically, hover for combat, fly for travel.

My current build (actually a guide now) dropped hover for the slots, and slotted up TI and Invincibility. Please do feel free to check it out by following the link in my sig.

Kimmie, loving TP Foe now that I actually need a "snipe" to survive. Perfect for taking out Vamps from a room filled with them.
  11. That would rock! Give the spare pre-order disks to friends to try the CoH game and get hooked.
  12. I called once, and they didn't know anything. Then I emailed, and all they said was that I was being billed the $80 rate vice the $90 one shown on the page. This was the 2nd email, and 3rd attempt.

I just reordered it. I expect this to work now without a hitch, and have never before had an issue with Gamestop's site until this. I'll just delay pre-ordering something within the first week or two that it is shown.

Now, is I5 up today, or does my Invuln/SS tanker have another day of full resistances? Time to find out!
  13. *bangs head on table and groans loudly*

How do I spell Incompetant? G-A-M-E-S-T-O-P

I wrote them for the 2nd time asking if I am being sent the pre-order (and I called once before writing the first time), and this is what they wrote me back this time:

    Subject: Order #

Hello, my name is Kimberly Burgess, and I am inquiring as to the shipping status of the pre-order bonus for the City of Villains Collector's Edition, pre-ordered on July 31st.

Some fellow people in the message boards at the City of Heroes website say they have received theirs from Gamestop Online after ordering on August 15 or later. As of August 30, I have not received any pre-order bonus, the site does not show anything as having shipped, and I wonder if I am in limbo for placing my order shortly after your site first mentioned the game (before the bonus was even mentioned).

Will I be receiving the City of Villains pre-order bonus with this order, is it shipping out and the site has just not updated, or do I need to cancel my pre-order and reorder it through your site to receive the bonus?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Kimberly

I didn't ask for my order to be canceled, I asked whether or not I was receiving the pre-order bonus, and if it was about to ship. If not, I was asking if I should cancel and reorder, not asking them to cancel it.

And since they are the only way to get the Blood Widow Helm at this time, I re-ordered it as soon as I received this email.

Kimmie, amazed at how they still continued to fail to answer my question.
  14. When the CoV pre-orders first went online, they did not mention the pre-order bonus disk, that came a week or two later.

I want to make sure I get this disk and code to enter for Blood Widow helm, as I ordered the collector's edition on July 31st.

Waiting for a response from Gamestop.com
  15. I just emailed them again asking about the status or my pre-order, and whether or not I should cancel my order and order it again through their site (bonus wasn't mentioned when I ordered last month).
  16. I pre-ordered from Gamestop Online on July 31st, and it still has not come in, nor does the site show it as having shipped.

I emailed Customer Service asking about the pre-order and pricing, and they just responded on the pricing telling me it is lower (was originally listing the CE at $90), no mention on pre-order.

Emailing them again. Suspect I will have to cancel my pre-order and start it over, as I placed mine before they mentioned the bonus.

Anyone gets theirs from gamestop online yet?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sadly, no. I called them 10 days ago to confirm I am getting a pre-order disk since I placed my order for CoV Collector's before they mentioned the disk. Gamestop confirmed the price was now $10 lower, said they were shipping, yet nothing has arrived. Doublechecked and yes my address IS correct.
  18. Thank you! I actually am considering replacing the To-Hits in Invincibility with DEF when I hit 32 (29 now, still saving up for level 35 SOs). I am also toying with the option of pulling another slot from both Hover and Health to add to Rage as more ACC slots.

Currently on Live, I can ignore Forcefields on Rikti drones and Sky Raiders, and still hit purples often. With I5, purples will be BAD so DEF would be the best payoff for Invincibility. My only question now is whether or not Rage is good enough for hitting often with 1 ACC slotted.

Kara won't have to respec at all for this build. The powers I needed to strip slots from are still ahead of her, so I can hoard my respecs for rollbacks/tweaks/I6. My I5 goal is to be well rounded for all challenges by maximizing diverse abilities. I think this build is a very good base for that.

Thank you again! Off to quest for 32 to switch slots over!
  19. Just retweaked my build for I5, this time deciding I will keep Taunt and Fly, yet still add in TP Foe. Yes, I am violating the Supergirl build a bit, but I5 won't let Kara be as tough as she needs to be to wear the name Supergirl.

I dropped RPD and Superspeed. Sacrilegious, yes, but my S/L resistance is high enough for my tastes, and I can heal whatever cuts I receive. I am nearly maxing both hover and health, keeping fly, and moving up Unstoppable. I could easily drop a slot from Hover or Health to add another recharge to Rage.

  20. Havok is Havok there, while I'm SvZurich there.

There is something to be said for keeping it simple.

Kimmie, who also didn't make first Alpha, and doubts I will make it into CoV's Beta before the pre-order CoV key gets me in. Annoying as I failed to make the CoH and WoW betas last year, and almost didn't buy those games as a result.
  21. Statesman says we need to herd our own posse of 12 minions to get our Defenses back to where they were in I4, and just a few more will max Invincibility's DEF boost. My build has 4 slots for DEF in the hopes of hitting that cap a bit sooner for when I need to thin my posse out.

Welcome to the "'Do not herd, except you guys over there who need to herd 12 now. Good luck doing that! I love you guys, really, don't you feel it?' - Statesman" era.
  22. Insectar, yes, Havok's build is very very good and well rounded. You've come around during a time of change, so we are trying to salvage aspects of this build now that it will no longer even come close to maxing Resistances. For I4, this build was perfect for making a tanker who could also do damage and feel heroic. With I5, our Defense/Resistances/Taunt all take hits, and we are trying to figure out how best to adjust for them.

Havok's build remains a great basis!
