More info about CoV pre-orders
And then she got 4 copies....
That would rock! Give the spare pre-order disks to friends to try the CoH game and get hooked.
I called my local Gamestop not knowing that the store and the site don't share information about any products they sell. Hence, when I thought I could just pick mine up at the local shop I was told that I should cancel and pre order through them. The guy at the Gamestop was so nice to me he gave me the bonus disc anyway, stating that I might not recieve it through the mail. So either way I have my disc, it just sucks that the CS at the site is so terrible.
Has any one had a problem with the wallpapers on the pre-order disc? I can not get them to open so I can save them to my desktop.
Any1 here think the best buy helm looks cool? Also, i was curious if i pre ordered at 2 different places, would i be bale to get both helms?

No.
For anyone worried about their pre-order --
I pre-ordered with EB the day it was announced; didn't got the pre-order CD until yesterday (Aug 31st). Not a geographic thing (SF CA), no email notification when it shipped, no change to the order status on the EB site ('waiting for product' etc..) They list a CoV ship date of 10/31 which is presumably just a guess.
The serial codes are/can be a royal pain. It took about a half hour of guessing before I happened on the right one (4 letters with multiple possible values). You can add "C / G" to the list of easy errors.
No doubt...It only took 4 tries for me to figure out the right code for my disk and I work all day in a pharmacy decyphering doctor's illegible handwriting.
OK, i've had my preorder disc for a week now, and because of some wierd issue with the disk on my home system, actually had to 'register' the serial # on my work laptop.
All went fine, and then i was advised that I'd see the activation in my email in 'just a few days.'
Have yet to see it (all ncsoft mail gets filtered to its own folder, so as to pre-empt my mail provider's spamblocker features).
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
I ordered mine from Gamestop. I thought that helmet looked the coolest (until I found out it was female only...Now I think that "Mystic" helm, or whatever it's called looks the coolest...oh well, no big deal), and I rec'd several e-mail notices from their website including order confirmation, shipping date, and arrival dates, all which were correct (so far...Obviously I haven't rec'd the full game yet).
I totally agree, though, the serial number was a total pain...My grey stuff didn't "easily rub" off with a coin, and when I finally got my code to appear, I had trouble discerning J's from I's or 1's, 8's from B's, G's from C's, and 5's from S's. I contacted PlayNC support immediately, and they were able to help me find the correct code...Now I just gotta sit and wait...Even though the code thingy was an annoyance, things like that are bound to happen I suppose. I'm not too upset. And my preorder upgrade was listed on my account management set up within 3 minutes of my code finally working.

If you used the pre-order registration serial to 'UPGRADE' as opposed to 'Add game', evidently you will not get a confirmation email. It's a mistake in the registration info. As long as the subscription line for CoH on your PlayNC Account page shows that Cov has been added to it, everything is kosher.
Once again, upgrading your account was the correct thing to do, but the registration info text about a confirmation email seems to be incorrect.
MASSIVE EDIT:
They must've changed the pre-order registration page from what you folks read because there is no mention now of sending you a confirmation email that you have uprgraded correctly - only that they will email you when you have been invited into beta. This is officially a non-issue now.
I don't know what everyone is talking about
While the scratching is a pain, the letters were clear to me.
But then again, my capital "J" is like this font here, only a little more stylize, with a crossbar to make it a cursive "F", and my zeros can look like "Q"s to some when I am in a hurry (I cross my zeros too). And my name begins with J, so I am used to the "|" with a forward tail look.
Of course, half the time the manager at work asks what I wrote to her the night before cause my handwritting can be so bad, so maybe it is experience. (I have given doctors a run for their money.)

I had to go with the 'rank an file' wolf spider helmet. how cool is having just a plain solder rise up the ranks of arachnos.
Also I had a bear of time reading the serial. it was S not 5

Okay everyone - I'm back with more info. You can check out pictures of all the helmets here!
Regarding the other issues you've raised in this thread regarding the genders of the helmets and associated issues... although there will be a period of exclusivity for these items, we do plan to make them available to our community eventually. So if you can't get your hands on a particular costume piece right now, we will announce at a later date how you can acquire all the helmets.
Have a great weekend!

[/ QUOTE ]I'm not gonna read 30 pages... so if this is repeating... oh well.
So what's the reward for pre-ordering since eventually everyone will have access to these helmets? CoH players never got access to the sprints......
Our reward is early access, basically.
I asked Zeb about maybe also throwing in a Pre-order badge, but he said the plans are already set.
I say lets ask for some more love for the pre-orders!

I agree... we should have something to say that we were here first. On the pre-order page it says that we get exclusive pre-oreder helms.... but apparently they are only exclusive for a short while. Why would they trick us like that... I mean that is a powerful incentive (get something that no one else can).
They need to change that becasue it is false advertising....if not they should at least put an astrix next to it (and say exclusive for only 2 days....or something like that).
I already pre-ordered because I love CoH and I know it will only get better. But, I bet some ppl were pushed into pre-ordering by the in-game 'exclusive'. Pre-ordering is great for the NCSoft company....its great pre-sale revenue (they already sell loads of copies before the game is released).
So....what I would like to say to all those ppl out in dev land.... reward us for buying your game before it is even released....this isn't unheard of....CoH did it (w/ the sprints) and many other companies do it (in game exclusives or limited edition packages).
I hope this issue gets addressed
I pre-ordered CoH, and got the sprint.
Oh boy, more noise on my screen. The only time I've EVER used the sprint would be when starting a new character and forgetting to swap it out for normal sprint. o.O
Powerslide mighta been kewl to have tho.
Preordering means that on launch day, you won't show at your store to find out they've sold 'em all already and you've gotta wait 2-3 weeks for a new copy to show up (NOOOOOOO! )
I for one am very aggravated now. I pre ordered the game from EB games while I was there for something else. I got to talking to the sales rep and he told me the pre-order boxes were out, which included access to beta test. Wow, I thought, I could be checking out CoV in just a few hours! And right there, on the box, Pre-Order Box Includes: Beta acess to City of Villians (very first line! #1 selling point!) Not "eventual access to CoV beta when we get around to it at some unknown date just wait and we'll let you know."
What a rip-off.
Last time I pre-order one of your bait and switch products.
Guess I'll just have to "sit back and wait" ubtil I can get what the box said I was purchasing.

It never said "immediate access to City of Villains," either. If one were smart, they'd guess it was access to the final stages of Beta.
So, it wasn't a rip-off. You just assumed wrong and got your hopes up too high.
They should have atleast said that on the box. It's messed up that they even did that. I canceled my coh account thinking I was going to start CoV the other day. Now I have no account to play till my preorder cd/key comes from them in my e-mail.

I see very few people around that thought they'd get immediate Beta access, quite honestly. Heck, even on the sites advertising CoV for pre-order. It clarified that they didn't know when you'd get into Beta. No, this wasn't a new change (at least not on GameStop.com).

Ask first. Leap later.
I pre-ordered CoV 1 or 2 weeks ago, and I still didn't receive my bonus box and I asked for shipping the quick way is it supposed to take this long?
I pre-ordered on July 31st with nothing to show except Gamestop Online canceling my order and having to redo my pre-order last week.

The pre-order box does not get the quick shipping - that is purely for the retail box.

I called once, and they didn't know anything. Then I emailed, and all they said was that I was being billed the $80 rate vice the $90 one shown on the page. This was the 2nd email, and 3rd attempt.
I just reordered it. I expect this to work now without a hitch, and have never before had an issue with Gamestop's site until this. I'll just delay pre-ordering something within the first week or two that it is shown.
Now, is I5 up today, or does my Invuln/SS tanker have another day of full resistances? Time to find out!

I called Gamestop about mine last night and asked when the bonus cd would be shipped. I was told that they're shipping them in waves and didn't know when the next wave would be sent out.
